Awful weather - typical Brits talk

My Robin has been at that threshhold for a while YBE - will land on the bird table bit of my feeder as I'm placing (his fav) pink suet "worms" on it, but won't land on my proffered hand with same... (yet!).I don't recognise your sig YBE, but I think it almost wins Google bingo, or whatever its called - only one search result returned! ...and guess where that was from6

YoungBlueEyes said:So is everyone ready for it then? I had to go into Posh Town yesterday for presents for himself, and while it was busy it wasn't mental busy. Pleasant surprise was that cos I'd girdled my lions before going in and everything.
Oh and thanks to whoever it was recognised my sigIt'll have to stop another week cos my brain isn't giving me anything better (yet).
We're not ready, so I must make a Manic Monday trip to the outskirts of Consumerville. Fortunately, the wind's died away. There's, no frost, and if I get a wiggle on, I might dodge the next tranche of drizzle. Hopefully, it'll be mild and calm here over Christmas, in more senses than one!I didn't recognise your sig, though it had a ring of familiarity about it.Eventually, in some recess within what passes for my brain, I remembered 'mal a ponce' which means “evil to him who evil thinks.” It's the motto of a certain group of people who've had high honours bestowed upon them. One of these illustrious souls has been in the news recently, not in a good way, so I'd guess there's an apt link to the motto.
In more down to earth news, the errant tile stayed put, so that's another win for CT1 (other polymer adhesives are available.) The train company also sent a bold group of employees up the line in a non-service train, and they reported it clear, so DD was on the first one to run since the winds closed it.Since you mentioned Mrs D's method of tree decoration, being essentially “cram things on till no more fit,” here it is. It looks exactly the same as all the other trees we've had this past 10 years.I'd guess most of the trees that were ready to fall went last week.
Mrs D obtains so much pleasure from her decorations and lights, I'd be a right Grinch if I criticised any aspect of it!
Farway, your blooming Christmas cactus made me wonder where ours has gone. Someone has replaced it with several kalanchoes over the years, but none is flowering now. Our hellebores aren't doing much either, 2p, so you're well ahead there. Not buying into it.8 -
YBE I’m pleased things are looking up at work. I don’t know if we were colder than you but that was possibly the worst day at work ever. The back doors were open as they were going in and out so it need to be propped open, then we were stood at the other end of the small warehouse with the small door open ,so it was a proper wind tunnel, so 10 hours smiling at customers whilst freezing and aching from holding myself tense. 2p I’m not sat down so no hot water bottles or electric blankets available. The system to get the Food orders out had changed and it was chaos.Great idea to change it on the busiest day of the year, and unfortunately I’m back today for a repeat.
Farway the cactus pic is lovely I like the snowy font too, very artistic now.
Dusty that tree is epic a good proper Xmas tree. I’m like Mrs Dusty and enjoy decorating the tree, and Isitting looking at it.
im supposed to go out tonight a reception for a friends wedding, but will be a quick turnaround after work. So hoping I’ll be able to find a seat when we get there. I will be in need of a big drink and relax , gawd I’m getting old. Time was I could be up dancing all night after a day at work . Where did the years go.
OT rain seems to have stopped and wind calmed a little not checked forecast but it’s clear enough to see the stars ⭐️ and the birds are up now .
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Cold and bright, chill to the bones sort of weather, so I'm not venturing out, shops are full of loonies this close to Big DayNo tree here, but congrats to Mrs D, very sparkly. And the tile back in place, with trains running as well.Just need Wort warming up, set of thermals for Christmas? I may need some myself, I'm going over DS for The Big'un, and they are hardy souls, it's always freezing there, with windows open "Airing"Nice hellebore 2P, it's set me thinking about getting some to grow on my front bit / steps. I'll have to look into that a bit more, may be too hot & dry come summer.twopenny said:One thing missing from the car is no alarm if you open the door and the lights are still on. Might need that chargerBut even so, a booster in the glove box is handy. And just think of the Good Samaritan flourish as you boost the flat car of the stranded secret millionaire waiting to give his money away to a needy gardener damsel in distress at the co-op.Today it's the cyclamen I bought to give as Christmas presentsAlso, new Holly fontEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7

Love the Christmas tree Dusty
MrsD does a really good job.
I get much the same about Christmas Cake. Classy plans until I get all those fancy nozzles out and want to use every oneKeep trying Less, would holding yourhand out and looking the other way make the robin more confident? My crow is still sitting in the tree every morning at 8am to greet me.Wort, would heat patches work? I used to buy them 2 for a £1 but they got popular and Boots are taking the proverbial with the price but they used to keep me nice and warm. These are the onesSo far no wild wind, no rain and bright if cold, about 7c.But I still have to go and see why Specsavers think it's ok to move my contacts appt forward by 4mts and refuse me the contacts I've ordered and paid for even though I've got their prescription till MayAnd the last of the car bits to do......email the heating man. This is not what I'd planned for my 'being left alone for 2 weeks' to do stuff I like.if it stays bright I'll give the precocious potted bulbs some more compost as the rain so vicious has washed a lot out.The sun has got to stay out for me to get the basket of bulbs out to plant. Maybe.............
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Mrs Dusty likes her veg etc as fresh as possible. Then there are the things she meant to get on Saturday, but didn't, the things she's thought of since Saturday, and the extra things she texted while I was on my way.
It came to 31 things.
I've never seen the supermarkets here so busy, but I didn't see anyone getting stressed, nor did I have to wait long anywhere. It was all very efficient, and nothing on the lists was out of stock. Amazing! The hens did well with all the cheap veg!Our apples are running out now.

Dropping like flies here - DD has a throat and chest infection and is on antibiotics, MiL was in hospital briefly, but back out again. I'm still coughing, as is DH (loudly). So lots of lovely seasonal festive bugs going around. Ho Ho Ho.
Just dropping in with my version of one of the 12 days of Christmas...
Merry Christmas everyone - see you on the other side'A watched potato will never chit'...8 -
Sorry no gardening has taken place and I too have seeds that must be cold exposed and planted but I haven't done it yet. bad girl, write a hundred times....dusty, I don't believe the greens were mollusc damaged, I think someone went in there with scissors to give mere mortals hope. I#m also sorry you had to find the cat and that the cat was deceased obviously, well done for taking care of it. You just have discerning hens is all [ or they're all reading the perpetual spinach reviews and seen no stars...I love your more is more tree.Farway, i think your tree looks alright...well done for bucking the englih trend and complaining and congrats on the replcements!Less, I didn't know about unrise and sunset or anything...Love the atmospheric moon shot, is that a go any speed you like sign?wm, that's exactly how our friend was teaching u to do it [ of course I went off piste] and it is really effectivepp, love the candle pic, very eye of sauron..and it's amaryllisesesesesi...I'm skipping a few pages just to say, wow, what a tree, my mother used to decorate trees like that, just chuck it all on and it will make a pattern of sorts. I loved it. I'm beginning to think my tree is very restrained with its only 600 lights, need more decorations for sure.Glad your work is getting better ybe, it's time someone pointed out their failings.2P, how very annoyingfrom all parties involved that have either extended, shortened or postponed indefinitely their attentdance or yours.pp, loving your swans a swimmingMerry Christmas to you all too.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi5

Swans and helebores and cacti and cyclamen and trees, jeez aren't the photos on here good. I wonder what today's font will be...
How did your End Of Year class thing go 2p? No not entirely changed my mind about a blue Swift, but I want rewarding for tolerating idiots at work for going to work and Golfs are better than Swifts (other opinions and cars and methods of obtaining money are available) Mind if it keeps up like it is I'll be wanting a Morgan ha haa! Is your car permanent then? Could you not have a test drive of the red Swift when your leg decides to behave...?
Fingers crossed you get your robin to cross the threshold Less. Maybe not looking is the answer.. I'll bet it is cos then you'd not get a picture would you  No further movement on mine yet. Another one was brave enough to come out yesterday so I had 2 robins, Mr+Mrs blackie, my wee collared dove, and half a dozen pigeons. I've never heard of Google bingo before, but yay me!
You were definitely colder than me at work wort, but that wouldn't be hard. It's a big old heat-leaking building, and the thermostat is in our room. So various folks traipse down during the day and click it up a bit, so we're sweltering downstairs - it's normally in the high 20's but has been up to 30'c. Wanna swop places? I'd sooner your temps than mine.
Did the gloop hold your tile on Dusty? Glad your hens are enjoying the veg, that makes going out to the consumer emporia at this time of year worthwhile ehYep I think yous got my sig. It was something daddy used to say sometimes, but his translation was "Let him be ashamed who thinks badly of it" which is basically the same thing. Honi soit qui mal y pense for anyone who likes actual factuals. I wasn't aware of anyone in the news though...?
OT warm here, and the still air is thick with damp. It's set in for a few days now too apparently, but better this than Easterly Beasterlys though I guess.
Right off to find 2p's dog prog. We watched a good one other night actually, it was a BBC one called "A Year In The Lake District" or summat. Lovely gentle little programme, worth the watchAs I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...5
