pink_poppy said:Dropping like flies here - DD has a throat and chest infection and is on antibiotics, MiL was in hospital briefly, but back out again. I'm still coughing, as is DH (loudly). So lots of lovely seasonal festive bugs going around. Ho Ho Ho.
Just dropping in with my version of one of the 12 days of Christmas...

Merry Christmas everyone - see you on the other side
I love the interplay of light reflected on the water in that picture!
The rest of your post makes me sad, not just for you, but at the silence surrounding the obvious increase in respiratory illness in recent autumns. There's an elephant in the room no one dare mention, though it's OK to suggest climate boiling may be partly to blame, or the poor summer. No doubt, over Christmas, folk will spread their bugs around even more, and we'll see a spike in January /February as the coldest weather hits. Then, I expect it will be the loss of the winter fuel allowance at fault, or anything, other than the elephant, which must be ignored at all costs. On a less ranty level, I hope you still have a grand Christmas, pp.
A little of what your area's famous for may help
I also trust that "on the other side" means after Boxing Day, not the other thing!
OT: gloomy mist here with dead air and the wetness which comes from being in a cloud. I may sally forth in search of one further item for Mrs D, but it has to be good, I still haven't found the Mona Lisa socks from last year, but when I do.....

Sorry pp, I missed that about you all being poorly
Hopefully a few days of rest will break the back of it for yous, and you can just do Christmas a little late this year. Or will they all fit in your car, give you some peace?

A Merry time to all who want it and peaceto the rest of us
I was all set for a long lie in with the good book I've got but the sun came out! Well not really sun but bright no wind or rain and 12c
PP I can recommend an Icelandic Christmas for you. A book, log fire, hot chocolate or whatever is your comfort drink and snuggle down.Bluey, you still don't seem settled at all in that job. Hope it sorts itself out one way or another in the New Year.Farway, enjoy being spoiled as you let others take the daily strain for a couple of days to pass the time before your next T&Ms order arrives.Dusty, hope you got that extra pressie. It's all your brownie points for next year
Now the big news..........I got some gardening done yesterday! Cleared a corner bed of leaves, weeds, pruned and shifted the Iris. No wonder they weren't blooming. Somehow (deluges of rain?) they'd got their rhizomes burried in the soggy soil. Can't say I enjoyed it wildly as it was still a soggy business. I couldn't really get down and thorough but it's a bit more scenic from my patio windows.Loads of photos to come but too sleepy to pfaff around with downloads at the mo.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Now the big news..........I got some gardening done yesterday! Thanks, I'll take a big helping of peace, please, but may I also have a slice of merry tomorrow?
Actually, thinking about it, if I have the merry first, I may get peace as a spin-off. It's amazing what I can sleep through!
The extra pressie didn't happen, I'm afraid. :'( Despite the lack of sunshine, Mrs D zoned-in on the windows and the muck Storm Darragh threw at them, and asked me to clean them all!
It was a hose brush job, and you know those things always leak and splash!
I was soaked, but it was so warm, it didn't matter. I think the Brownie points are safe, though. Mrs D needs a new phone.
I'd have been gardening yesterday if I'd not been shopping. Mind you, it was nicer down near the coast than here, where we've been sitting in a cloud. The inebriates don't seem to class that as rain.
Looking at the rest of the year, it seems we shall need all the light we can get! Mrs D is doing her best, and I'll try to pop up a picture later. We can see our lights from the town and the village! In case events overtake me, a Very Happy Christmas to you all, whether you like to celebrate rumbustiously, or in a quiet, reflective manner, or somewhere in-between.
Oh, and I've found the Mona Lisa socks!

A swansong photo from the very last set of old-style fairy lights, which I installed yesterday - an hour or two later they had expired and my remaining spare fuse bulbs failed to resuscitate them, so am afraid they they will be passing to the "other side"... A pity - though the new-fangled ones are much less trouble and - sort of OT - money-saving (in theory, though I wonder whether they will last as long as this set - which I remember from my teens, if not childhood, so many, many moons ago!), I think they lack the charm of the olduns...
Merry Christmas all!7 -
🎅🏻🥂🦌 Merry Christmas everyone. I reckon Father Christmas will have used Rudolf last night as it was a foggy one, after a mild day. This morning is still misty.
Dusty I don’t envy you braving the shops but as long the list was acquired that was good.
2p well done getting some gardening in, I went to town to get festive nails , it was quite quiet, but then again most places are closed down now. I should have done some gardening or something after but sat watching tv. And had various visitors.Farway, I had many thermal layers on, and hope Santa brings you some. I think you should be the phantom window closer.Beef in to cook as I forgot to take it out to cook it yesterday, and I have a dd that doesn’t eat poultry. So I’m taking the beef for her lunch at my dsis house.
I hope you all have the type of Christmas you would prefer, remember it’s not what’s under the tree but the people around it.

We're also enveloped in cloud, wort, but somehow Santa found his way here.
Things are pretty calm indoors too. We don't open presents until Christmas Dinner's done.
Just as well; I know someone aged 4 is receiving one of those huge radio-controlled cars.
You'd think Santa would have more common sense!
.....Look out skirting boards!
Never mind. So long as I don't get more of these:I'd wear them....if I could only get them on!

🎄Hope you all had the Christmas you wanted, or if not something that was pleasurable
It's been sunny sort of here, mild but not warm but that's fine.Got a few small jobs done and a lot of reading. May go for a group walk tomorrow if the leg gives up it's spasm. Overdid it a bit the last 2 days. Spent Christmas Eve hobbling further than meant and watching the Cormorant, the robbin and such and chatting!!! too much.Someone taking a small tub of seed for the birds Christmas treat. Nice thought

The other side of Christmas, Dusty, not 'that' other side
I'm sure I saw the random Mona Lisa sock on the path on Christmas Eve, but it was dark and pouring down so I didn't stop to check - I'll have to investigate another time.
I hope everyone had a lovely day yesterday. We did, despite 75% of the household being ill with that elephant in the room... Boxing Day is usually a bit of a nothing day, so not a lot planned for today, just eating chocolate and leftover turkey. We always make Coronation turkey baguettes on BD, so I'm looking forward to them later.
I'm glad you managed to get outside for a bit of gardening, twopenny, you must feel better for doing that, even if you overdid it and your bits were complaining after. Cute wee robin pic.
RIP to Less's vintage fairy lights - your post did give me a nice memory of the fairy lights we used to have when I was a child, all frilly edges and if one light blew, they all went out and you had to search for the dud one. We've got the LED coloured lights now, just the 300 on the tree, I can't image what 600 lights look like, taff
Enjoy your day at DD's today, Farway. What's everyone else up to?? Hopefully no one is at work, unlike my DD's partner (one of the 75% with the lurgy).
Did anyone notice the photobombing Curlew on my 3 swans a swimming pic?? I didn't until after I'd posted it the other day and now I can't unsee it - this is another pic I took with the long beak more visible...
Happy Boxing Day everyone - it's pouring with rain here
