Did you survive the vistors Dusty?Yes, but not the goodies they brought. I'm 2lbs heavier! It almost cleared-up here an hour or two ago. A patch of blue sky was spotted, but then back came the misty, drizzly stuff. The guests have all gone, and I'm in the polytunnel, making a 4th cold frame from wood scraps and an old secondary glazing panel. Three days of enforced indoor idleness and jollification urgently needs redressing!

And breathe... I finally have the house to myself, so PJs are on, fire is lit and chocolate has been consumed. I might even have a hot chocolate with a slug of Baileys and some Baileys squirty cream. Why not... As nice as the last few days have been, I'm peopled out and so tired after waking up at 4am this morning and 3am yesterday Zzzz...
Some really lovely photos on here - the sunny one made me feel quite wistful - I miss sunny days and can understand why people booger off to sunnier climes at this time of year.
OT - dreich definitely sums it up. Non-stop rain or drizzle all day with low light levels, just bloomin' miserable.'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Nothing but peace and quiet here. Have been out to have a conversation with someone!Of the 8 houses I can see in our little cul de sac 3 are away, 4 don't come out and my neighbour having the grandchildren round several times a week has had repeated bad bugs but even though she spends so much time indoors was complaining that it was deadly dull. Most shops are closed, library has no internet so they are going around with feather dusters........So with the weather being so yucky and feeling like I've only just got up and it's time for bed what about some flowers? The days are getting longer....we are promised some brightness tomorrow??????This is what is blooming in my garden
Highly scented
Should be scented
Is hightly scented but you need to be flexible to get down there and smell it.
Recovering from the storm
Jingle Bells coming good.
Shame they look sodden
Rosemary out early, they are purple really
The climbing sose that lost all it's leaves and flowers to the storm has buds!
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Oo-er! Much floriferousness in your garden still, 2p.
We can match the viburnum, hellebore, primroses, and rosemary, but apart from being sodden, many are wind-blasted too.
As for the sunny times promised yesterday, overnight, the drunkards have sobered-up and reduced those wild predictions to an hour or so in the afternoon, if we're lucky.I've a feeling Mrs Dusty is not going to sacrifice her lazy day in a quiet house for a wander around Rosemoor in the mist! I've almost exhausted the photos I took there on my last proper visit, but here's a festive-looking holly with very large (4") leaves and no label ! I'll go and see if I can ID it.
EDIT. I think it's this one: https://www.gardenersworld.com/plants/ilex-x-koehneana-chestnut-leaf/

Lovely pics, twopenny, it's so nice to have something flowering at this time of year. I usually have the winter jasmine (I think that's what your 4th pic is??) and it was definitely flowering a while ago, but I haven't noticed it recently so am wondering now if it's succumbed to the rotten weather. I'll have a wander outside later, avoiding the 40mph winds we have forecast for this afternoon.
That holly is lovely, Dusty, very festive. I hope you manage to persuade Mrs Dusty to go to Rosemoor, maybe tempt her with fish and chips after??
Another rainy day here, but I'm going to get out for a walk as I haven't been out for days (I was keeping the poorly one company when everyone else went out).'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
More dull & grey, one brighter note is my back is on the mend, not fixed but much better, just needs more internally applied chocolateMy gardening today will be browsing through a DT Brown catalogue that arrived on Saturday, nothing I need, but dreaming is part of itDustyevsky said:As for the sunny times promised yesterday, overnight, the drunkards have sobered-up and reduced those wild predictions to an hour or so in the afternoon, if we're lucky.

There is nothing of any note or colour in my garden, I was looking from the window this morning, just dull & damp plants, with one solitary blue tit flitting aboutSo, for some colour & a birthday, today is HMS Warriors' s 164 birthday, launched on this day, 29th Dec 1860Here's my pic taken 2022, Portsmouth HardThe Urchin silhouettes are Mudlarks http://www.mjpeacock.co.uk/Mudlarks/Portsmouth_Mudlarks.html

Yes the holly one is a beaut!Though after a massive self planted holly in my last garden I said never again. The leaves pierce every gardening glove when you're tidying upPolly - 40mph winds!!! Maybe the ones we had have to go somewhere.I like walking in the wind. I find it refreshing and exhilarating. Take care not to go near trees if you do.Was thinking of a walk here. I'm told there were casualties among the old scots pines on the hill which would be a shame because the NP is keen to go by it's own ideas of what is 'natural' clearing stuff some birds like in favour of other birds who seem indifferent to the efforts. How are you now and how is the poorly one?I'm hanging around here because the weather isn't inspiring, have plenty to get done in garden and house but fed up with it after a week in. There was a tad of brightness last weekend and voila!A little bonus after shopping

What a lovely photo of HMS Warrior, Farway, she looks very majestic. Glad the back is easing.
Wow to the daffodils, twopenny, mine are just poking through the soil. I'm still coughing, but nowhere near as bad as I was. DH has been away for a couple of days, so will see how he is later. Poorly one is getting better (fingers crossed).
The 40+mph winds have increased from two hours during the day, to twelve, including overnight, so I'll get out for a quick walk before it gets too blustery.
Ps Winter Jasmine is still flowering, but it's tangled up with some ivy, so I'm going to have to tackle that at some point. At least my BPPV has finally eased, so I won't be falling head first into it'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Missed you post Farway - I did check back but it wasn't there! The mysteries of MSE forumsGlad you're a bit better. On the right track.Poppy, there are daffodils galore in the public spaces. Early flowering variety maybe - I have mixed feelings about them. What with the weird weather we have now it would be helpful to see things bloom in season to know what time of year it isAlso what always takes my eye is the plum blossom. I found an unsorted folder last night with a photo in. Darned if I can find it today. REally must get to!I've been getting a lot of birds with almost morning chorus which is cheering. They seem to know when there's good weather coming or bad.If you find out the secret of keeping climbing plants growing in neat clumps instead of straggley please let me know
