Good to see you back, AR
Straight back into it too, well done you.
YBE, your sunset pics are gorgeousthey actually remind me of the October Aurora, especially your second pic. I do love our skies - they never cease to amaze me.
My Wordle starter word had been STARE for months and that's what came up yesterday. I used to try different starter words every day when I first started doing it, but then decided to just stick with the one. I haven't settled on a new word yet, I need to think about it.
Parp, prp, prp, prp right back at you and W_M - well done to you both - how exciting to be included on the A-Z
That sculpture is amazing, Dusty. Looks like a pile of carp in daylight though.
What a beautiful stream, twopenny, I would love to be walking along that wee path.
Farway, I can highly recommend a splosh of Baileys in twopenny's hot chocolate - I've just had one with the squirty cream. It was going to be a very small hot chocolate because I only had 5g left (I thought I had another portion), but the postie arrived just in time with my new packet - I only ordered it yesterday and it was due to be delivered on the 2nd January (which would have been the 3rd because the 2nd is a holiday in Scotland). I've got enough of the cream for one more drink, which I'll have tomorrow, then no more alcohol or cream for a few weeks.
Good ideas from AR for the, erm, bird feeder, YBE. It's not the nicest or most practical one I've ever seen, but I'm sure you could do something with it if you decide to keep it.
OT - wet and windy, but fairly mild. Temperatures drop tomorrow, but it should be dry and we may even see some sun, fingers crossed.
Anyway, Happy Hogmanay everyone, Lang May Yer Lum Reek'A watched potato will never chit'...9 -
ArbitraryRandom said:Oh no YBE... do you have anywhere to hang it at all? Could you maybe screw some cup hooks into the bottom for your feeders and use the top for suit balls or does it need to go right back for a refund?
I'd give the ply a coat of outdoor varnish too, mind!
Farway said:That sculpture, amazing how imaginative some can be.I think I've seen a rude one somewhere, two separate figures that appear to do naughty things at sunset.Yes, I had to eat my words on that one.Mrs Dusty was heading into the distance when I spotted it. Must've missed it first time around, last month. Nothing rude in Rosemoor.....well, not officially, anyway.
Well done to Working Mum for making the Front Page round-up of the Year, and to Bluey for supplying a quote the management didn't need to censor!pink_poppy said:What a beautiful stream, twopenny, I would love to be walking along that wee path.)
Me too. There's zero chance I can ID the location, but as the gradient isn't steep, I'm going to suggest it's the River Avill, not the East or West Lyn. I'll use it as a reminder to visit 2p's area more for walks next year.

Anyway, Happy Hogmanay everyone, Lang May Yer Lum ReekAs for ' Lang May Yer Lum Reek,' Thanks, but now there are fines if it does!I'm going to reply, 'But dinnae fash yersel' and sign out for 2024 with a photo of a small Rosemoor piece called 'Friends for Life.' I'm sure these two have things well weighed-up!

Happy New Year all! May 2025 bring you health and happiness, and I wish you everything you wish for yourself
The wee bird feeder will have to stop now for I've varnished it (well, first coat, that's why it's sat on the bin, getting the breeze) but I'll want a replacement for my pole thing too. Well it's not greedy if it's not for yourself is it. It'll hang in the cat wee tree I think, once the weather calms itself down a bit.
Me lum's naw reekin', it's plugged up with a fleecy blanket to stop the wind barreling down it like billyoNext door's is though, they'll burn owt that fits in their log burner
That's some seed haul Arb, those redcurrants look like funny diddy grapes. Be a lot of jam at yours this year eh
I like your carving Dusty, that'd sit nicely in my garden. Bet that wasn't eleventy squillion quid cos it doesn't look at all 'fashionable' at all
All my posts will now be sliding past the censors no bother cos I'm giving up bad language for 2025. I'll not be saying !!!!!! or !!!!!! or !!!!!! or nothing
OT well the rain did arrive yesterday about 1800 ish so I missed a grand drying day, but it's to rain on and off today, they say. Don't anybody be catching up with the washing today cos if you wash on New Year's Day you'll wash somebody out of your life this year.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
Welcome back Arb, congratulaions on slipping back in almost unnoticed and very self effacinglyThose are some Constable sunsets right there, absolutely stunning! Merrily Watkins is an ecclesiastical detective/exorcist of sorts with the spooky undertones, a single mother and an anxious boyfriend, which doesn't sound like much but the first few books were really good. Author Phil RickmanI see why he has some making up to do, give it back to him and show him a picutre and tell him to get his power tools out.I'm still doubling down on the sculpture thing, I think if they intended that it be rubbish looking except when it's lit, they could have done a better job because it's still very clumsy looking. {A friend made a sculpture when we were in art college of a pile of rocks that looked like a naked sleeping woman from one angle, that was almost forty years ago and it wasn't a new concept then] . nd that leads to me to the new lovely little sculpture which has movement and charm and wind and all sorts the other one doesn't [ which is the point of it really I suppose, the other sculpture that is and that's if you taek it for the finding beauty in rubbish etc] but I still prefer the small one.Well done woring mum! and ybe, Dusty, you did make laugh about a quotable ybe...good luck with lessening the swearageLess, nnot sure what it says about me but I'm loving the cow pat lichen, for the name and the looksThat moss is beautiful. And very interesting about the hammers! My lum will be reekin later on when it gets colder because it is absolutely howling out there with sideways rain [ you can get inflatable ballons for your chimney ybe, but don't start a fire without removing it first like I did, oops]And a fabulous gardening new year to you allNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi9

Blowing a hooley here, woke me up with it howling around. Rain due any minute, and once that's done it freezes tonight.Happy New Year folks, I made a cracking start to 2025 by dropping an egg on the kitchen floor
, cursing as I scrambled for kitchen paper to wipe it up, it's no yolk at that early in the morning.
A good haul there AR, I tried those red goosegogs but was not impressed TBH, but that could be down to positioning. Too shady? My currants seem to succeed no matter what, so I'm sure with care you'll get a good crop, if the birds let you have anyJust to tempt, Browns & Fothergills have free P & P until midnight 01/01/2025. Applied auto at checkout.T & M have 20.25% discount until midnight 01/01/2025. Auto applied, but also has code TM_TN5552WI like that wooden pair sculpture Dusty. I'll have to be more observant next time I'm mooching around statues, normally fainting at the price tags.Lacking any colour from my garden, here's one from 2020I got the seeds along with some black roses & purple daffs from AliExpressEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens9 -
Happy New Year everyone!Hoping this one brings peace and happiness to all.........Love that Farway! If it was winter fruiting that would be just perfectFirst stop a picture for Bluey taken 'specially
They are only half grown yet but on their way
The walk I went on was Horner Water, I had a friend who went for a walk on NYDay and picked any flowers in bloom for a vase for the table centre. I thought it was a lovely idea of optimism but I'd rather leave the flowers for insects and others to enjoy so just photographed them. I did NYE because of the storm coming.I found Ragged Robin, Campion, Winter Aconite and catkins so not as many as usual. Thinking they are keeping their heads down with the endless soggy weather. On the other hand the Magnolia buds are fat and just waiting like the catkins so all we need is some nice weather.Lots of people doing the obligitory dog walk who spoke and I got my allowance of doggy petting.Lots of trees down, split down the middle some. But it clears the ailing wood which insects will use, then birds lunch and makes a clearing for the flowers so it's never all bad in nature.Hows this for a sitorieAs for gardening........not a chance, wind not so bad it was southerly and just blustery really. Deluges this morning but the Blackbird still managed a chunter between them to greet the dawn. Nice and warm though. Heating not on this morningTomorrow promised sunshine (really?) but cold. That will show up all the debris on the windows and dust inside. Can't see much at the mo it's so dark.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

A happy, healthy and fruitful New Year to all.
May all your seeds come up without damping-off, and your cuttings flourish.

Bet that wasn't eleventy squillion quid cos it doesn't look at all 'fashionable' at allI said the scrap metal & plastic light sculpture was clever, but stopped short of liking it. I'm with you. The'couple' are part of a series which I love, and not only because they're viewable 24/7x365. Regardless of the C20th garb, they're all so relatable, and for me, that one in particular. So I agree with you too, taff.Gosh, Farway, what a fine goosegog you have there! I must investigate this Ali. Is he by any chance a Lord? He ought to be, producing such wonderful things, and showering those who labour with his bounty! I particularly like the enrichment through diversity you have achieved on a single stem. So, the Yellow Wind didn't amount to much here, and it seems the fairly intense rain has not caused rivers to rise very much. I can close the big gates now, have let the old year rush out. Good blimmin riddance! That's just a personal view.
How did things go up there in Bonnie Scotland, pp? I did hear some naughty people suggesting the major festivities were cancelled somewhat eagerly, but I couldn't possibly comment. Hasn't every New Year resulted in many thousands of 'cheery' Scots on the streets?I do remember one New Year in Trafalgar Square, when my inebriated pal jumped in the fountain in a moment of madness, only to find his clothing beginning to freeze on him a few minutes later.
That was before the global good weather emergency, of course.
OK Here are the 'gone over' daffs at Rosemoor, complete with ID. Maybe they came from Mr Ali too?

Happy New Year everyone
I had a late night and an early morning, so I've been back to bed for a kip.
I don't think I heard any fireworks, Dusty, but we were playing music and singing at that timeI don't know if Edinburgh folk were in the Amber Warning zone last night, but elf & safety decisions had already been made, so...
I'd love a sitooterie like that, twopenny.
YBE, I'll join you in the 'no bad language for 2025' camp - it's not funny and it's not clever
The Aurora was visible last nightit was a bit hit and miss with a fair bit of rain and cloud, but it was lovely to see on the last day of 2024...
Not the best photos, I think Aberdeenshire area got a stronger display. More alerts over the next few days and we have clear skies here, so fingers crossed.
OT - it's finally stopped raining and we actually have a view againSnow on the tops, but it doesn't feel as cold as I expected. I may be eating my words (as well as steak pie) later...
'A watched potato will never chit'...9 -
Late night early morning here too. Didn’t go back to bed, as needed to sleep ready for work today. I have trouble sleeping if I’m not feeling tired when I go to bed.
Rain with gusts of strong winds yesterday. Frost this morning.
managed to dry the towels the day before. And a soak of dgson tshirt was needed yesterday though the final wash not done.
I also managed half an hour weeding before the rain.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Only a flying visit this morning cos I’m at work today
Thanks for the info re Merrily Watkins taff. I’ll look up inflatable balloons cos my fire doesn’t actually work (it’s a gas one). Look at your goosegogs FarwayI love the nearly catkins 2p, and that is one well used sitooterie
Gone over daffs already Dusty, doesn’t seem right
Beautiful aurora pp, I hope the steak pie was yummy, and welcome to the No Bad Language camp 😁 I’m the same wort, I just toss and turn endlessly if I got to bed not tired.
Anyway I came on to say this - we have/haven’t got a load of snow comingDrunkards have said low confidence, while the sobers are more forthright -
156.5mm
Right that’ll do, I need to get the dinner going, love my slow cookerI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5
