Surely that's the wrong bird (tho' a very nice one!) on the spade handle... Robins are traditional...Re. Goldcrests, I had no idea we had any around here until a nature-knowledgeable friend mentioned them, and played me a clip of their "song" (sqeaky wheel sound); soon after I heard same sound in hedge near greenhouse, and lo and behold there was a Goldcrest. I've since acquired the Merlin bird app, and they turn out to be the most frequently-heard bird in garden and nearby forests, at least at this time of year - but I've not seen one again...7

Mind you, our fluffy one is so frequently mistaken for a fox, she'll run away from any sort of bird commotion without staying to see what it's about.
I'll find the Goldcrest call and listen out for it. EDIT: Done that. It's at my upper limit! We have many acres of potential conifer habitat nearby, but it's still risky for them to make a journey here across open land without good reason. Who knows, maybe the long line of leylandii the farmer over the stream planted about 20 years ago attracts them.
OT: Still no sleet or rain; just grey miserableness and about 3c, but it's tolerable. I've had time to barrow more lengths of willow to the place where I chop them up.

Still weird weather here. It's gone up a notch from 2c to 3c but feels warmer.Mind I've just shelled out over £100 to stop the kettling (turn one radiator up so now my hall is sauna like) and I still have noises I can't live with.Found out my box on wheels is super toasty too. The heater is really good. I had to change the habit of a lifetime though to read the handbook to understand the pictures and knobs. That made me laugh Bluey
I used to be given the job of mediator for difficult customers. I still remember one woman who was furious because she'd bought a cottage in the NP and couldn't have a second bathroom and second garage. 'How can I live without them' she screamed.
We had a lot like that. Wanting to put massive addons to boost their own place but couldn't see that everyone else had to look at the carbuncle in an area of outstanding natural beauty.Oh bulbs are just my favs. Tulips, Dutch Iris, Dwarf Iris, Crocus. All in pots that are put at the back of the garden after flowering but it gives me joy and colour while they are out. Tons in the garden - somewhereDusty I have a little carved bird that usually sits on top of the gate under the rose. Still takes me by surprise when I forget and suddenly see it. My little corner of pleasure that no one else notices.Farway, I managed to get a close up photo of some flowers yesterday just for practise. Not to your standard. Looking forward to what you do with the new camera.Less, I wanted those apps, even looked at buying a phone specially but then other things took over on the expenses front. Now you've got the Goldcrests - you need to look for FirecrestsI might get out in the garden, the forcast rain hasn't arrived yet. But I won't be staying long.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I was mid post yesterday when my DD phoned - pressed post instead of save, but now I can't remember what I was going to say.
I don't think I've ever seen a Goldcrest or Firecrest. Your wren is lovely, Dusty, one of my favourite birds too, I call them buzz bombs.
I was given a Christmas gift of fancy boxes with bulbs in, twopenny - they had to be put in a cool place for 10 weeks and then the bulbs could be planted out (if you remembered about them). The boxes were just decorative and probably accounted for about 2/3 of the price, so the whole thing went back to the shop for a refund. Does that make me sound ungrateful or sensible??
Dusty, I've been meaning to ask about the hoovering of logs when your in-laws were visiting - please tell me more.
I wouldn't buy a new fancy camera, Farway, I'll investigate ebay or similar. The phone was new, but my last one was 10 years old and I'm hoping this one will last the same length of time. I hope you get to play with your new camera soon
It was a gorgeous sunny day yesterday and we went out for a brisk walk in the sunshine. I spotted these windfall apples and I couldn't believe how many there were, especially as the tree wasn't even that big, it must have been absolutely laden with fruit. I don't know what variety apple they are, but I'm guessing they don't taste very nice (to wildlife or humans) as they're just rotting away...
A change in the weather today. No sun and a cold wind. We picked a bad time to go for a walk as it started to rain/sleet pretty much straightaway. My face was bright red with the cold when we got home'A watched potato will never chit'...9 -
YBE, just read back and saw you mention Bertigo and starry pics. I'd love to see them. When I was taking photos of the Aurora on NYD I had to stop myself from proper looking up at all the stars, but looking at them in the distance/on a level was okay.'A watched potato will never chit'...8

Poppy the trade in is probably worthwhile. You could buy for half the price or get twice as many if you keep an eye on Farways bargain postsI wonder if the apples are from seed, a core thrown away? We get a lot of apple trees at the roadside around here from just that.Lovely to see you feeling more chipper.I was going to post some flower photos - but the heatings still making noises despite 2 heating guys and paying a b'day fortune. Then the new car is making funny noises and the internet connection is going silly probs because everyone is on it tonight. The joys of living in the country!I'd like to think that's the 3 but it seems like foreverSooo seeing the temperature rising and no sign of rain I did a washing load and went out. Then it started snowing
It stuck to clothes (which are drying in the over heated house) but is mostly melting on contact. A short drive to charge the battery I could see it settling on odd fields and not others. Very strange. Still it's just wet outside and 3c. It's supposed to rise tonight.......please.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

A very cold kitten woke me up this morning (I can only assume she was trying to get under the covers).
Figured I'd have a quick wee and go back to sleep for a few hours... saw this on the way down the stairs. Probably/hopefully gone by the time I get up again.
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.9 -
Ooh snow Less
No snow here, despite my phone (sobers + drunkards) saying it's snowing now and has been for hours and will for hours more. They need a dictionary so they can spell rain properly. Swines.
If I remember rightly from the weather forecast last night 2p, all you suvveners are getting double digit heat today, 13' ish. So get your bikinis ready 2p/Dusty/Farway
A new camera Farway, hopefully it's good to go right out of the box cos yous are getting good weather down there today. Possibly.
I love your handle-wren Dusty, isn't that charmingHow's Mr Canute doing this morning...? Mind it'll take a while to come down off the hills so the worse may yet be to come
Aww look at all those apples ppMaybe something will be along to eat them when there's nothing else left? Or you'll get an apple orchard in a few years
That's gotta be your 3 now 2p, so it's plain sailing from here on outIf my heating was acting up like yours I'd stick with the one fellah and only pay him when it was fixed. This is not the weather for bu99ered heating
So other than the noises are you liking your car then..?
Right, starry starry night then. These 2 were taken about an hour apart, and if you zoom in you can see a squillion stars and constellations(Forgive the ..errrr... black hole, I need to get that taken down really.)
And no I don’t know where my window’s gone in the first pic!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
Here's some right way up ones, for balance.
Walking home from work the other night, I took a pic of the church at the end of my road. It's a beautiful building anyway, but my phone made it look beautiful-er
When I was weeding the other day I got a pic of the saddest rose in the world -Speaking of tolerance and erseholes, I spotted this in Posh Town yesterday -I think the caption is lovelyI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
Gawd it's awful outside, wet, windy & blumming cold, looks like January despite Global BoilingNo stars, floods or snow, so guess I should be grateful.YoungBlueEyes said:If I remember rightly from the weather forecast last night 2p, all you suvveners are getting double digit heat today, 13' ish. A new camera Farway, hopefully it's good to go right out of the box cos yous are getting good weather down there today. Possibly. No bikini today, sou'westers, yellow waterproofs & galoshes are more in keeping, with Fishermen's Friend sarnies for lunchCamera, works, but I need a six-week course to use it. Actually, it does have sort of point & shoot facility, so all is not lost.Itching for some butterflies to try out the "burst mode", I may have got the hang of that by summer. No chance of any pics today though, but part reason for getting this model is it is weatherproof, allegedly, not going to put it to the test today though, just in case.I was secretly hoping for freezing rain, for icicles hanging off branches.YBE, lovely pics, that poor old rose, I can feel its drooping shoulders. Needs some Googly eyes on it to complete the despair.I think I qualify for dog like heart, mine's all furry insideArbs, Hope your snow cleared or piled on to make it worthwhileGood idea cashing in the bulbs Poppy, no doubt the present was well-intentioned, but a catch buy for non gardeners looking for presents.I've still got a pair of wooden hanging pot holders from a couple of Christmases back. Fancy packing, only requires pots & plants to look like the picture.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8
