pink_poppy said:That holly is lovely, Dusty, very festive. I hope you manage to persuade Mrs Dusty to go to Rosemoor, maybe tempt her with fish and chips after??We did go over there.
I told Mrs D it was the last chance of a warmish sunny afternoon this week. Being a Sunday, I couldn't use F&C as an incentive.
Ironically the holly has a new, informative sign! It has also been stripped of any berries.
As it happened, the journey (about 45 mins) was through very unpromising drizzle and rain, but that stopped just as we arrived. No real sunshine, though, so the Exeter inebriates were wrong again!
According to the camera, I took 92 photos, so there must be something there for these pages. I've tweaked most of them now, but they're still on the other computer.....
Anyway, it's great news your BPVV is leaving you, and your winter lurgy is waning within the household. It's also happy news from Farway, apparently all thanks to the miracle of chocolate medicine applied internally. I tried some similar treatment over Christmas, and confirm I felt empowered, until an adverse reaction occurred around morning weigh-in.
It's back to a single Lidl plain chocolate butter biscuit daily for me, I'm afraid.
twopenny said:Poppy, there are daffodils galore in the public spaces. Early flowering variety maybe - I have mixed feelings about them. The name escapes me right now, but it had "early" in it and an AGM.
pp your 50+mph winds are coming here on Wednesday/Thursday. Then we go cold, with some overnight frost. At some point there's a New Year too, though we're not planning anything too exciting for that. A few neighbours for hot drinks and a biscuit in daytime looks to be about it!I'd light the bonfire, but not in a howling gale and heavy rain.Looks like '24 will go out swiftly. Suits me.
I'll open the gates for it!

Farway, thanks for including the info on the Mudlarks to go with your picture today. It's a fine statue, immediately making the viewer ask questions, especially why the gentleman is staring out to sea so intently. I've viewed a lot of 'pretty' sculptures this afternoon, but none so fine as that."Everything's just f.....ine!"7

I agree with Dusty and pp, your HMS Warrior pic is a belter Farway
I'll read your Mudlarks link in a min. Edit - very interesting and well worth the read.
Your garden must be happy to be producing flowers like that 2p, I wish I could say the same about mine! Imagine the daffs being out already - I love daffs but that's too early surely. And there's clearly no slug problem there eitherUnlike here where I've been out slugging these last few nights, got a good dozen each time too. At Christmastime for gawd sake... The seasons are all to buggery and that's a fact. I wonder if Less is gonna provide pics of the hazel catkins :fingerscrossed:
Glad you're feeling better Farway, and your household is getting the lurgy shifted pp. And hurray to the back of Bertigo too :clapping: Did you get out for a good walk?
I'll have to get in my garden today, see if I can find some flowers. There's nowt showing from my kitchen window mind.
Here is a weather warning - I was talking to Cissie last night and she said because the crows something something (she was a little ...tiddly...) Winter will arrive with a vengeance next week. Properly cold and windy straight out of the East. So I went up to mum and dad yesterday and slung another layer of soil over the wee bulbs I planted cos I don't want them coming up and then being froze to death
Cold out there this morning, but still with it. At least the miserable murk and mist has finally goneQuite a nice sunset driving back yesterday -
- and anyone wondering what Jesus was doing for his birthday, he was making a snowman
This was the sunset by the time we got home - it might be my fave pic, it looks a paintingSo it's downhill from here folks!
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
So, you folk up there pinched our sunshine, Bluey.
It seems like 2p had a bit too, on its way there.
Well, we did see a little blue sky. Here it is.Back to dreich this morning, or dimpsy light, as they say here. I might go out again though, as it's better than what's forecast for New Year and immediately thereafter. As I was banging-on about sculptures yesterday, I'd better start with one I appreciated viewing yesterday, if only because it gave me encouragement. I think I might match it, if I nip into Lidl and buy a welding set. Mrs Dusty isn't so sure she wants me to, but as I told her, “Never mind the quality, look at the price tag!”Hmmm, second thoughts, the title's wrong. It should be “Beyond Belief.”Don't worry, they get better from here on...."Everything's just f.....ine!"7 -
Still grey, but like Dusty, getting brighter, colder, and worse, by midweekNo daffs around here, leaves and that's itWhat lovely sky pics YBE, really like the top one, orange sky & car headlights. Not seen any nice skies lately here.If there was warning it could be a cracking image of HMS Warrior, she is nearly E - W, so sunset would be behind herFound one!Good to hear you made Rosemoor Dusty, some fresh air is what's neededMy back is clearing, and internal chocolate medication continues. I think I have sort of remnants of PP style lurgy, not bad enough to confine me to bed, just means I have to take double chocolates to keep it at bay.A bit on topic, T & M fruit tree offer2 Bare Root Trees (Height 1.2m, 1 of each variety) £10Braeburn apple & Conference pear

Wow you've got sunsets Bluey! Thanks for reminding us what they look like.Got a tiny one a few days ago (photos eventually) but like the stars, the sun seems to be on holiday.Funny you should say that about the kitchen window. I've looked out the last 2 years and thought I should do something about cheering up the winter from the kitchen, which is what I see first and last thing. Up to now I just put nets up so I can't see how grim it is
But do have a few bulbs and stuff for later.
Dusty that is ridiculous What is the matter with people?I had a studio along side someone who did sculptures from metal and they were brilliant. I did tell him to follow that through because people would pay for their gardens but I think he went off and did something else - as artists tend to do.Well the weather? I got out there with the leaf blower and blew the mess to the border to rot. Guess they will all be blown back again.Don't like the cold. My heating which was sort of sorted went back to banging last night. Different bang. But of course it's holiday time so I can't even vacate to the library.Started today with a bit of sunshine and it's still trying so just brighter than recently now which is ok.As those flower pics were winter blooming anyway I had a surprise when I went out the back yesterday. Photo to follow. Need to venture out and see if I can get some eggs and milk from the farm and take pics of chicken houses for the other thread.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Greenbee, great tip about the batteries!I don't know what your bloom was ybe but it was cute, also the double sitooterie was too! [ two! oh dear, I'll get my coat] And are you sure you don't need a job doing book covers for Merrily watkins books? Did himself make u for whatever it was with some good shopping? beautiful sunsets too.PP< your W&G reminds me I ordered cheese from the milkman before Christmas and it wasn't there but I didn't remember until now and then I realised I had provided a chistmas cheese board for the local foxes...good to know the bertigo has burgered off a bit.Less, I didn't know white rainbows were a thing wither, most impressive. Lovely ferns tooFarway, that was very funny about jobbing hbf...welcome to the really real world where you are usually disappointed. Good to know all applications of chocolate are slowly working..I enjoyed the mudlark info too.2p, love the misty horses. Loved the flowering pics along with the commentary
daffodils though? Now? Climate change is a definite go...
Dusty, yep to the strong winds being a big no no. I hate having earache from the wind whistling past, it's been a while but it still lingers in the memory. I was quite pleased to see the usn represnting either in pictures or very briefly outside yesterday.[maybe a minutes worth?] .Love the holly, I found yet another one has sprung up at the bottom of the garden again, that makes five I've found down there, two are currently in a seed bed, one is thriving in a pot and the last one took me unawares and is eight inches tall already. Needs a transplant though, it's yellowing. I'll dig it up and put it next to it's brother.I will hide where I chopped the holly tree down and shredded the leaves yesterday though, don't want to panic it.Well done for going out too. That sculpture deserves to be slagged and started again. Honestly, some people just take the mick..Imagine them explaining to someone yes, but it's modern art luv, and getting an earful back...So in competition with ybe and 2p I found these flowering in the front garden [must get a program to make smaller]A geumFenneland borage!Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6 -
My attempt to make a quick contribution to fings what are flowering in my garden, supposed to be starting with, as requested, hazel catkins (only just starting to swell, no sign of female flowers yet, will keep an eye out...). Upload went wrong, so catkins at end
Apologies that pics are not edited down to a more acceptable (and less blurry) size, not sure how best to do that, and they may all be squashed together. Was surprised to find so much, though, once I started looking, during today's very dreich afternoon!

Toot toot... guess who got ONE on Wordle today?! Yep, that would be ME!! I'll have to think of a new starter word now though
Loads of lovely photos - beautiful sunsets and so many things in flowerI was surprised at the primula/primrose (I never know which is which), Less, I'll have to have a look if any of mine have popped up. And the Geum, taff, I noticed mine has still got leaves yesterday, but no flowers.
The foxes pinching your cheese made me laugh, taff - did you run after them shouting "get off me cheese" and was said cheese Wensleydale??
I did get out for a 29 minute walk yesterday, YBE, it started raining 5 minutes in, but I carried on and came back soaked to the skin. It was extremely windy and I could feel my hat getting pulled, luckily it didn't go flying off. Another walk today (forgot to time it) and what a contrast to yesterday - dry and calm today. Went shopping after and the heavens opened - heavy rain that is still battering away. Came home and had the last but one portion of hot chocolate with a slug of Baileys and a big squirt of Baileys squirty cream. I've ordered more of the hot chocolate, twopenny, it's so nice
Dusty, I hadn't realised it was Sunday when I suggested fish and chipsGlad you got to Rosemoor anyway.
Farway, hope you manage to shake off the lurgy.
OT - heavy rain and strong winds forecast, but at least we're not in the Amber Warning area. Shame about the Edinburgh Hogmanay being cancelled, but I bet the zoo are secretly happy...'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -

I know I dropped off the face of the planet (nothing bad happened, just got busy) and I hope everyone had a lovely year/festive period.
I'm starting to plan the garden for next year - planted some onions, garlic and broad beans on boxing day, so a good start
To add to the temptation above, should anyone be wanting any dwarf trees, they're offering an 'upgrade' to three for £15 - inc a golden delicious: https://www.thompson-morgan.com/p/fruit-tree-trio/WKF8724TM
Slightly annoying in that I wouldn't mind another couple of small apples, but it's always with a conference or concorde and I don't really want another pear.
Farway, Mr F got a decent chunk of cash from me earlier in the week - some delightful looking red flowered strawberries and celeriac plugs fell into my basket. I'm aiming to add a few strawberry plants each year to keep the yield up so I'll give half to mum. Plus I've never grown celeriac, so it's something new that theoretically will do okay in the shady area (and I know I like it in soup).
No seeds though. Every time I saw something I fancied, I checked my big tub of seeds and I already had it... which is technically a good thing.I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.9
