Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Our panto is brilliant, the guy who writes it aims at the adults more than the kids ,although they love it too. He includes lots of local stuff that adds to the fun. Hope you enjoyed it.
I think most forty year olds these days would be up in arms about being described as old these days .
That cheese sounds good Farway may discuss with dgson see if he can search some out.
OT rain, hail and Mega winds yesterday and continuing now, off shortly to work and the hail is absolutely hammering the window , it’s white out side . Going to be a very cold day at work as the spot I’ll be in is in the draft from the back doors , which will be open all day again.
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.8 -
LessImpecunious said:Intrigued by the delicious-sounding Hot Gherkins..; and a wagtail which visits bird feeders - we see one or two intermittently, but only ever on our rooftop or in the front yard...I may have a jar of the Hot Gherkins in the stash pantry, so if there is one, I'll do you a photo with listed ingredients. They're local, though, not mass-produced.The wagtails never seem to be in evidence until the swallows go, though that may be coincidence. At present, two are visiting feeders front and rear to 'mop up.'wort said:Our panto is brilliant, the guy who writes it aims at the adults more than the kids ,although they love it too. I think most forty year olds these days would be up in arms about being described as old these days .You and 2p are lucky with the Panto surviving in your areas.Sadly, ours is gone. It was always a demanding thing for a village of under 600, and after 20 years, the originators couldn't hand-on to younger volunteers. £2k a year was being raised for local charities when it folded, so that's another loss.
Yep, 40 is young. I recall being in my 20s and worrying that life might have left me behind!OT: We still have a hoolie blowing here, but no hail, just rain. Not buying into it.6 -
Cold out there this morning. Phone says 4', feels like -7 :shiver: That wind just whips the heat right off ya. Gusting up to 48mph around dinner time, which is more than enough frankly. How you's doing in the north+west..? If I remember rightly that's where the worst of it is.
I loved your Living Pantomime 2p, I'd turn out for thatHave you had a good go in your new car yet? Funny you should say about working in a solicitors cos that's where I am! Lucky I've been reading the different boards on here for years cos I don't know how you'd do it from a standing start. Wery interesting, but tricky. It's a great bunch of girls in the office though, so now we've got the hours=pay issue aligned I think I'll stop a bit longer. But I deffo want a Golf/Polo cos the Office MicroManager woman is a godawful pain in the teets...
You've a beautiful dog there Less, she looks like an intelligent girl and a sweetheart with it. Brilliant moon pics too, very atmospheric
I like MrsD's if-it-fits-on-it-goes-on tree DustyGood that that fellah rescued all those trees with some careful ...de-branching... (?) Good job on the cat too, some people would have just shrugged and left it for the foxes
I agree black pepper cheese is v good Farway, but you can keep the dolcelatte :boak: There's a cheese stall in Posh Town that does all kinds of cheese, if I can remember the name I'll put it on here cos I'm sure they have a website. Any chance you know what it's called wm....?
Glad to hear you've got your kitchen all done taff, just in time too. Has it all turned out like you wanted?
Wort have you a socket anywhere near where you? I'd be wrapping myself in an electric blanket I if was you (if practical) Open doors in this weather?! That's just crazy talk
So is everyone ready for it then? I had to go into Posh Town yesterday for presents for himself, and while it was busy it wasn't mental busy. Pleasant surprise was that cos I'd girdled my lions before going in and everything.
Oh and thanks to whoever it was recognised my sigIt'll have to stop another week cos my brain isn't giving me anything better (yet).
As I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...8 -
Gawd I forgot the most important bit! My wee robin isn't eating out of my hand yet, we've hit some threshold that he won't cross but I'm persevering. And my blackie remembered that he is bothered about getting his share, cos Mrs blackie gives him firm reminders from under the hedgeAs I suspected, somebody has been adding soil to my garden. The plot thickens...7

Blowing a hoolie here......again.But it's 7c which I count as okish. Heating still working quietly apart from some ticks in the roof. But the real proof will be when it's very cold.Wort, I sympathise. I used to be sitting at a desk between an open door and an open window. I did wrap up legs in a blanket. What about a hot water bottle or heat pad. Or the stone hot water bottle that you could accidentally drop on the offenders toes?As on another thread I need to get out and try crashing some gears on my newly aquired car. But gales and Christmas drivers isn't the best way to go. We;ll see. I wanted the red Suziki Swift but leg wouldn't allow a test drive. Bluey, there's a lot of blue ones around here. Have you changed your mind?Dusty, congratulation on that tile replacement
That's always so satisfying. And a bit of a bonus after the day you'd had.
Hope your cat is ok. Stinky stuff.Panto was brilliant. So well done. Just the audio was off. It's an expensive thing and a while since they got the new stuff. And the theater has been packed all week. Can't post any links as photos and filming forbidden so everyone had to sit and enjoy the moment. Apart from the 3yr old girl who kicked the back of my seat for the whole 2hrs!There's another village that used to do a good panto - more difficult parking though.I'd like to post about gardening - or birds - but this new pre apocaliptic weather has kept everyone inside. 2nd time my fairy lights have gone caput so more batteries needed. I'm thinking of skipping it.

It must be the exception here, sunny & blue sky, with slight and very cold, breezeSounds a rotten morning Dusty, but at least the tile went back in place instead of slithering down & crashing into bits on the groundIf you do not have one, and anyone else, flat car batteries.I can thoroughly recommend you getting a battery starter thingy, something like this. https://www.carparts4less.co.uk/p/ring-micro-jump-starter-powerbank-12v-dc-6000mah-rppl200-552779831Other makes & type are available, search for one suitable, for instance if you have a big diesel van you'll need one with more oomph. Makers suggest suitably, car, litres etc.I have one, and it amazes me how something that fits in the glove box can turn over & start my flat diesel. They come with instructions, order to connect the leads etc. And mine has a built-in torch as well, and could recharge a mobile phone if required. They seem to hold their charge for months, all this magic lithium, I guess.DYOR etcThere are You Tube vids on using them if you want to see in actionOn the gardening front, old brown fingers has appeared
, the living Rosemary I bought, for Christmas kitchen use, has started to go curly & looking like it's pinning for the fiords already.
But I did use some with my lamb & roasted root veg tray, so a life not entirely wasted.Today is my Christmas cactus, which this year is on time, has been known to delay until EasterAlso test run of a Snowy font

Thanks for that link Farway. I was going to get one but they were so big and bulky.I found that on brakedown that my phone battery was being used up by all the calls and texts from the garage and AA so that's an important fact.Lovely cactusYes, my lovely clematis cuttings seem to be very dead looking after repotting and cold. The only one maybe surviving is the smallest stuck in with other things - and wasn't repotted!

This time I've squirted a few big dobs of CT1 on it in the hope it'll stick. It's still 50mph blasts here, so the roof's not a good place to hang about on, but at least it's stayed dry since dawn.
The trains have stopped on our line, so they've put on shuttle buses until winds moderate. I was worried we might have to fetch DD from work in Exeter. Those jump start packs are advertised by Chops on his YouTube channel. There's a discount buying through him. I'd need a large one for the van, which hasn't fully recovered from sitting at the garage for almost a month. My trickle charger will sort it. I bought that in 1974!Not buying into it.7 -
Sheesh it's cold out there!Been for a ride in the car and popped down to the sea. It's wildly churning with white waves. One thing missing from the car is no alarm if you open the door and the lights are still on. Might need that chargerA lot of people out for walks surprisingly and all were coming back with fir branches and large pine cones. They do see to be the trees that aren't standing up to the wind. One huge branch of Oak snapped. But I guess it's as good a way as any of getting rid of the dead wood. But there's a few bright sparks in the garden. This is the Helebore one of the fancy hybrid ones I got tempted by and it had to be mollicoddled in the flower bed. Put in a pot same location and it loves it.That's a Thai dragon peaking out.Sorry, can't do the fancy writing.........
