I know this is a bit off topic but as so many of you use breadmakers I have a question.
Have wanted one for so long but resisted it but recently we have changed our bread eating habits and now have Burgen soya & linseed bread which ranges from £1.07 ( tesco ) to £1.19 ( somerfield). I know it's not cheap but as dh & dks always take packed lunches we have gone from value bread upwards in the last couple of years and there is less waste also they really are enjpying their lunches with the burgen bread.
So I would like to know about making seed breads in the breadmaker and if you think it would be cheaper in the long run ( after the investment of the breadmaker of course)- has anyone costed out different breads???
Today - I've done 1 load of washing and it's outside which I must get back into the habit of ( been a bit lazy with that!!!)
h/m pizza for tea tonight made witha 28p pizza base from asda and their smartprice bolg. sauce - i usually make my own with allinson's dried yeast but as Asda is new around here thought i'd try it out
the toilet has been cleaned with vinegar and the shower screen due to be done witha small squirt of washing up liquid - great for soap scrum and a window cleaning squeezer bought from wilkinsons.
Dh bought some jordans oat bars from holland & barrett yesterday - 9 for £1.89 !! - have looked at ingredients I have them all so will try and make some up later and then hide the bought ones for another day.0 -
Hello Savingmum,
I haven't exactly costed the seeded bread machine loaves I make, but I'm convinced they will work out competitive to the seeded loaves you can buy. Bags of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, poppy seeds and linseeds last for a great many loaves, and when you consider you only flour, oil / butter, sugar, water, yeast and salt on top of that...it can't fail!
There's a really helpful thread on breadmachines on here, with recipes and tips, and a good place to get even more info on the relative merits of machines etc...
Well done on the Old Style so far today!0 -
:coffee: *coffee break*apple-mint: :T Great idea to handwrite the recipes; I think handwriting can make it so much more personal and the writing alone becomes such a treasure for future generations! I have just a small few handwritten recipes from my own mother (and, those are hm beauty recipes LOL ). Her handwriting is so beautiful
I made a recipe book for my dd's 21st ... asked various relations and friends to submit their favourites, plus budget recipes .. it's a wonderful idea!! (Also, I made my son a Household Notebook when he and his g/friend moved in together)
Lillibet - None of this should make you feel inadequate! It should inspire and motivate you ((hugs)) Some days it's easier than others, that's all!
Just knowing what you have for dinner the next few nights is an achievement in itself
debtbuster2K5 - :T Your dw sounds like she's a star in the makingIt's sooo much easier when you are both of the same mindset. Enjoy your free mac n wine (Have you just had a baby? If so ... CongratUlations to you all :T )
Mado - hope the service bill doesn't come as too much of a shocker! Enjoy chilling with your friend.
jaybee - are you hooked on the rosemary and onion bread now? LOL It is rather moreish isn't itEnjoy your free meal at your friends. Like the idea of only taking £1 for parking ... great way to kerb wandering around and being tempted into more!!! :T
r.mac - when your Dad has finished ... can you send him around to mineGreat buy with your birthday money .. I lurve the word "half price", second only to "free" of course
nicki - let us know how you get on when you get around to making the car seat covers .. I've never attempted those. Great idea though:T
jenpoptab - CongratUlations on the new baby! :j
Well done on your baking spree :T Hope you're not referring to all those delicious home made goodies as "junk food"?They all sound so yummy and far healthier than shop bought one's.
Keep up the great work - I know how hard that can be with a baby in the house, so I think you've done brilliantly!! :T :T
Since the school run, I've put on the breadmachine with squeaky's cinnamon/raisin loaf (ready any minute, smelling wonderful!) I've topped up my bathroom squirty bottle with vinegar/water (50-50) and used a permanent marker to write what it is, what it is for and what it comprises of, *you never know, one of my family may actually decide to use it instead of conning themselves the bathroom magically cleans itself!* and given the bathroom a whip round. Attacked some limescale marks on the taps with half a lemon and I'm very pleased with how it's taken off the gunk! (Now I just need to find a cheaper supplier of lemons LOL )
Got my table all laid out ready for sewing - I need it's "therapeutic" properties today, I've just been reconciling the bank stat and noticed how much money my dh has withdrawn from the cashpoint over a period of 15 days   *He's for it when he wakes up*
On the positive side, I think I'll be getting him a cashbook, pen and calculator for Fathers Day!
Blast, my coffee has gone cold now and I've only been on this thread! :rotfl:
 I'll have another coffee~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Just wanted to know what i am suppose to write here, is it just general, 'what are your plans today 'thing?
Well if it is here is my plan;
Want to take little buba to swimming so he can gain some confidence in water, but cant cos i am waiting for my debit card delivery as it needs signture, Need the card so i can sell all the clothes the kids have grown out of on ebay.
Still Sring Cleaning, seems like a never ending thing.
Tonight, I will cooking a Lamb Rogan Josh, (Lamb Neck Fillets-2 packs for 4 Pounds at Sommerfield )
And i am trying to find a BBO grade ballet uniform for my DH on the net.0 -
Queenie - I have a pile of lemons that need used up (well three). What a great idea...taps...........here I come.........
Also, I know you like to quilt, Queenie, so thought you would like this. My Mum went all old style for my birthday and made me a 'quillow'. I am not sure if you've heard of them before, but basically it is a small quilt backed with a fleece. It consists of 9 large 'cusion' size squares with one square on the back which is a pocket. This enables you to fold up the quilt and tuck it into it's pocket to become a pillow!
They are great for travelling and for using in front of the TV in the winter. It was such a beautiful present to get, and something I can use as well as cherish for a long time to come.
mmmmm your bread sounds good!r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
:hello: morning all.........
So far today, I have been to lidls for some shopping, after making the beds and tidying up. I spent a little more than I intended to but still got a comment from a couple behind me about how much i had bought for £66.00 and that it would have cost loads more in Tesco. I thought i would try some of the ice creams that I have heard so much about on here. Got home the sun went in and since then we have had horrible drizzly cold weather.
I've cooked some chicken joints for tonights tea and made my special potato salad which involves a tin of :spam: gerkins, eggs and onions, as well as new pots and mayonnaise. i have to make this in a huge bowl as everyone here loves it:o
Now i shall have a coffee and lurk before the school run, which for me today involves a round trip of 100 miles. ( don't ask), then hand over the car to my OH so that he can pick up his daughter, another 100 mile round trip.
I love Fridays:wall:0 -
So far I've managed to potter round the garden and cut half the lawn, well it was more like the lawnmower dragging me round, hope DH doesn't expect neat little lines up and down it cos it looks more like a template for a lawn maze  While I was getting the mower out I discovered that a pair of swallows have built a nest on the rafter in my garage so I blocked the door back so the children can't shut it for now (luckily we're on a farm so theres no risk of anyone getting in, not that anything is in there). Put the bread machine on a fruit loaf for the childrens supper (my step son will be here tonight and he doesn't get anything thats not prepacked at home). I finally bit the bullet and ordered the new foam for my caravan cushions, got 3 quotes and there was over £100 difference between them for identical grades of foam!
Works out that the whole refit for the caravan has cost less than £200 so DH is impressed because he wanted to spend £3000 on a new one
Just had my lunch and I'll finish my coffee before getting on with a bit more sewing, pity upholstery fabric is so heavy though. Someone kick me if I don't reappear in a few hours0 -

I keep looking enviously at these daily thread - and feeling a bit guilty, too
(My fault, not yours....)
Actually the house is covered in a fine layer of dust, as we are building a conservatory extension to our living room & as fast as I clean it floats round & lands where I just dusted. The last couple of days (when we had nice weather) I just gave up on it, but we do have the tomato & cucumber plants planted out now instead. And some lettuce & spring onions.
But I really must get the cleaning done today or we will disappear under a pile of grey concrete dust (from the unfinished conservatory floor)0 -
I know that feeling bethscott, my step daughter didn't know that 'real' food came freshly cooked and not pre-packed from the supermarket. It's taken me the best part of 5 years to wean her from chicken nuggets, and onto real meat & veg. Unfortunately at home she still gets rubbish, and the poor little thing is soo overweight, and had 5 fillings before she was 6. It should be looked at as a form of neglect in my book.0
