JO: go onto the american ebay site - you get more for your money!!! :j
GREENLOGO - I think it was more a case of hitting it in the right spot - bit like a Vulcan neck pinch!!! :rotfl: It's actually a couple of the bones in the front upper part (virtually the tongue on a shoe) of my foot. Trouble is I may be at work but I have just been given a load of private ortho work (no smirking) to do for the OH of one of my GPs and the foot I've hurt is the foot I use to work my foot pedal - ouch!!!!
Have rung OH to say get some mince out of the freezer and I will do chilli tonight and defrost a cheesecake (2-4-1) and we'll have that as well as I am feeling delicate.
Has anyone else noticed that we are all a load of demics with hospital visist galore? Doesn't say much for OS!Actually, has anyone else put on weight since they have been home baking etc - OH and I have put on a stone each in the last 6/12 - and still we eat cheesecake :rotfl:
But I'm going to say this once, and once only, Gene. Stay out of Camberwick Green0 -

Hello fellow person!
Well, I lived in Bristol for a couple of years (Clifton, then just off Park Street, then into Redland) before moving to Bath, but the Parking attendants are seriously annoying me here, so Im moving back towards Bristol, not quite in the city centre though, more on the outskirts in between Bath and Bristol (as boyf is in a band and needs easy access to rehearsals etc in Bath), or somewhere in Clifton or Redland (so long as my neighbours arent noisy students!). I personally wouldnt mind moving to somewhere like Hanham or Longwell Green, as they appear relatively quiet, and access is good - as well as a BIG Asda!!
Where abouts are you??

eyeopener wrote:North West News is doing a supermarket challenge. The idea being that, for one month, you do not touch a supermarket .So we thought GIVE IT A GO!!!! :T
Wow - I'm impressed that this is starting in the media! It's my ideal way of living, so I'd really love to hear how you get on with it (may warrant a thread to itself?). I'm sure it can be done, though sometimes I wonder whether it would work out more expensive, though to me that would be worth it. I really look forward to hearing how you fare.
I have a bit of a grumble on at the moment. I'd LOVE to turn my back on the supermarkets forever, but the way I work at the moment doesn't really allow it, and I'm a bit fed-up.
I work out of town, catch a bus at 8:05 for work at 8:45, finish at 5:15, get home by bus at about 5:40. I don't have a car, and cars aren't allowed on campus anyway. I get an hour for lunch, so by the time I could get into town on the bus, I'd have to head straight back. Of course when I get home, the shops are shut (all but Tesco).
Saturdays I often go to the health food shop, Oxfam, the greengrocers and deli. BUT, Saturday is the only day when my boyfriend and I can get out and about in the county on public transport, without a car, as Sunday Services are awful to non-existent. SO, while I am commited to shopping in local shops, I feel I must balance that with actually using my weekend time to do something other than trail around the shops.
The farmer's market is on a Tuesday, when I'm at work, and the local shops don't open on Sundays (and why should they?!! They deserve a day off, too!)
But it really leaves me a bit of a slave to the supermarkets for some things, and I hate it.
I would have thought, by now, that smaller local shops would have banded together with others in their town to look at a change to their opening hours - ie: being open at least a FEW hours a week outside of everyone's office hours. I mean, just opening one night a week til about seven or eight would do it! I wonder who I need to write to about that!?...0 -
jw1096,
have added you to messenger....noticed you had it on here, will introduce myself when you are on again.(have pm'd you on here with my name on there etc)....didnt want to go into too much detail as some family might be lurking here and they dont know the extent of our debt etc.0 -
It will be interesting to see how people fair without using a supermarket. I'm all for using local shops and suppliers in theory. Unfortunately the reality is often a weekly gammut of "back in 10 mins signs" "sorry, we're getting a delivery tomorrow" "Do you mind if I totally ignore you while I serve someone I know" "shop's closed today for no other reason than I couldn't be bothered to open it"
Last week I went down to my local greengrocer which is quite a large shop because I had used all my salad ingredients up and it was still 3 days until the tesco shop. Local choice of salad was ONE tomato and even that was overipe and split:rolleyes:
I hope their experience is much better than mine has been in the past.Life's a beach! Take your shoes off and feel the sand between your toes.0 -
If anyone wants to practise with a sewing machine they can use mine, at the moment I don't have a sitting room because I'm in the middle of goodness knows how many sewing jobs.
I've been refitting the caravan and have finally got to the last cushion to cover then it's just the curtains to do and it's finished (managed to get the fabric for them half price as it's the end of the bolt). Fairly pleased with myself as the grand total for new cushions, curtains and recovering the walls comes to £124.50, definate improvement on DH's plan to replace the whole thing for £6000  it's booked in for a service at DH's work so I can add £50 on for that but all in all a good job
DH's curtains for his lorry are nearly finished I've just got to find somewhere to get tassels (men and their lorry's)
DD came downstairs last night with a long cotton waist length slip from a bag of clothes that DH's ex had given her so that's been converted to a nightdress.
The breadmaker is on for the second time today as I promised to make fruit loaf for DS1's helpers at school (they are having a meeting about next years support so I got talked into keeping the council budget maker sweet). Bread pudding is in the oven for the kids lunchboxes and a pot of HM macaroni cheese is ready to be heated for tea.
Guess I can't hide here forever so it's back to sewing again :rolleyes:0 -

Can't see it being to easy but I have the advantage of flexi working so I start at 7 am so usually finish around 3 pm so I haven't an excuse really!
Will keep everybody informed on our progress. I actually think we could save money by not going into tesco's. Impulse buys will go right out of the window! Hopefully0
