So my one tip would be "No saving is to small to be overlooked" I remember swinging out of Tesco all aglow cos I had clawed £2 off my shopping budget for that week. It's amazing how it all adds up if you put it to good use.

Could you run a seminar for OH please :j :rotfl: :D

Not done as much as I should have today. We went to visit dd at the weekend, but as they are currently sharing house with her dp's grandma, we had to find somewhere to stay & owing to it being Portsmouth & very busy weekend we ended up on a campsite on Hayling Island. On the good side, we arrived after the thunderstorms had ended (Friday pm), despite having taken 5 hours to do a 2 1/2 hour journey due to traffic problems. But the flip side was that the campsite had NO HOT WATER!
(oh, well - I think that was not so bad as having to put tents up in torrential rain, esp as we could use dd's bathroom if necessary)
Anyway we had good weekend, it was our granddaughter's 1st birthday, so wouldn't have missed it for anything!
But there is now camping equipment waiting to get put away, & cleaning still to be done.
I am also a bit sunburnt after we walked along from Southsea to Portsmouth, looking at the preparations for Trafalgar 200 & the boats which had already arrived for the festivals there.
So I am feeling particularly lazy today, but am going to have to make up for lazy morning by getting as far away from the computer as poss, & GETTING ON WITH WHAT I AM SUPPOSED TO BE DOING!!!!!

I have run a combined christmas and birthday box for years. I buy all year round.

I tend to fill it with either freebies or the the extra one from BOGOFs like mens body sprays, shower gels etc.

I always look in the clearance section of shops. I have found lovely single duvet covers for £3.75 75% off which makes a nice present and look way more expensive and people think you have spent a fortune on them.

After valentines day I went to Asda and they had loads of pretty things like note books with pens for less than £2 a key ring and compact for less than £2 they are presents that I bought for my husband to give to me as birthday/xmas presents (he did pay me back)would have made lovely mothers days presents. A huge pair of lips that was a cushion which was less than £2 and I knew would make a great gift for my late teens stepdaughter as a christmas present.

I try and keep a list of who I need to buy for and what I am going to buy then have another list of what I have bought. I try and keep track of what I spent so I know how much I really spend. Compared to what it would have cost.

I find that it helps me to spend less money and a few pounds every month makes a huge difference and no mad rush come december and spending all your november and december wages on presents. And being sking for the sales.

I buy lots of wrapping in the christmas sales but try and buy designs that can be used all year around.

But my box is rather empty at the moment so I need to start looking at the clearance areas/ sales a bit more and building it up as it only 6 months away.

    Yours

    Calley

:j Has anyone just heard Martin on Moneybox Live on Radio 4 talking about credit cards and "rate tarts" - charming Martin!!! I don't think I like being called that - can't we say "credit card astute" instead. :D

It's now the food programme and they're talking about snails and how it's a growth industry in Bosnia (I kid you not!!) Do you think Pal's listening :rotfl:

I really think that we shoud create a land where only money savers live. Then we could all hellp each other, hairdressers, people who can make curatins... all that kind of thing and just be very money saving to one another..

We could set up a barter system and have favours instead of money.... Money saving paradise it woud be :D

    Hi All

Daughter been home with bad cold today-so shes been on one sofa and me on the other

Anyway, hubby has done 4 washloads today. Wiped all sides in kitchen and swept through downstairs & done abit of weeding. Havent eaten hardly at all today-still worried about upcoming hospital stay, but hubby had left over lamb stew from yesterday, ham salad & mayo sarnie, eggs on toast for breakie (so quite MS) daughter had cold ready brek (gross), marmite sarnie & fruit, SP Pizza & Oven Chips, yogurt & strawberries.

Regarding pressies, cards etc for the year. This year I did lots on online especially at Boots. All wrap paper 4 meters (good stuff) 0.40p each x 20 rolls, Jamie Oliver kitchen bits (chop board, cups & saucers, spice crusher (cant spell it), fancy olive oil decanters, salt/pepper pot, teapot with tea, coffee pot with coffee and lots more. All for under £4 each 75% off. M&S loads bought about 70%+ off. Enough pressies for the next 2 years..lol. Picked up about 30 cards from Matalan about 12 months ago-all kinds reduced to 5p each-normally £1.50 each.

    I love a bargain!

    Hi Everybody,

Thanks for all of your nice comments about my tango'ed hair. As a reminder to myself not to be so stupid again, I took a photo of myself with orange locks. Other than that, I've been at work all day, came home and had a bowl of ice cream with honeycomb in it and clotted cream on top:D. (Felt good though as it was only £1.39 for a litre tub at the Co-op tonight). I have put the rubbish out and am currently leaving my OH at the mercy of my son, who is beating him up.
Felt good last night though, as I made some carrot chutney. Don't know what it will turn out like though! LIke I said to the girls at work, If I don't like it I can give it to someone for Xmas:eek: .

    LOL

    Hello.

Well, I didn't get nearly enough done today. Had a really sore throat this morning, can't seem to shake it off. It's my wedding anniversary today, but Mr TM left last night to go on a school trip to France, so he'll be back on Friday! It's also one of my sister's wedding anniv's - she was woken up to a champagne brekkie, fresh flowers, meal out etc etc!!

Anyway, I decided to go to Lidl's first thing as they had some inflatable toys for the pool on special. Wanted to get there at 9, but had to go to mum's and she wanted to go. By the time we got there at 11.30, all gone!! However, did some chores and laundry for mum. Then half way round Lidl's, got call from dad asking me to pick him up from hospital as no treatment today. Bang went 'lunch out' mum was buying me as it's a 2 1/2 hr round trip and only had time to do it and get to school run. Needless to say lunch was whatever could be pulled out of the packets of stuff I'd just bought :(

However, did put pork chops in slow cooker this morning, in tomato and onion sauce. Lovely, with pasta and salad, followed by rhubarb and strawb crumble I made yesterday but no-one ate. Just doing a whip round of my bedroom in a minute, cos I can still watch telly :)

Tomorrow is a major cleaning day - I'll get d3yo to vac. He's a dab hand at it and very efficient :) Also, must finish filling in my MSE budget. Started it last night, but I've no idea what Mr TM spends - just too much on complete rubbish. Oh well, if I can show him what our tangible expenditure is, he may realise he spends too much. May have to send him to MATH's seminars :D
