My sister was 43 when she got Covid (turned 44 during her 'battle'), she has been left with a myriad of issues that means that she is struggling to live a normal life. A friend (aged 44) died from Covid...he had no underlying issues.

Both had been fit (very fit in my sister's case, she used to walk miles everyday) and healthy prior to getting it with none of the risk factors.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

As someone with a hidden disability I really get annoyed at people abusing this. Was in IKEA the other day and a whole family wasn't wearing masks. One had a lanyard. Kept well away.
Maybe the one with the lanyard was deaf and the others weren't wearing masks so they could read their lips?

They make transparent masks and face shields.
So?  They reflect light and can still make lip reading difficult, its a legitimate exemption and its nobody's job to go round judging strangers.

Sorry but even if there was some contrived reason why they absolutely couldn't wear any kind of face covering at all and absolutely had to go around taking loudly and laughing, there is no reason why the whole family needed to be there.

Some of us are trying our best to minimize risk.
Plenty of people are exempt purely on the grounds that wearing a mask will cause anxiety.
Why do you think that exemption is in there?
Don't you think that if there WAS a deadly virus there would be no exemptions whatsoever?
And you think we'd have something better than a flimsy cotton mask that comes in a packet with "Will not stop the transmission of viruses" written on the back?

People are free to make their own minds up, do their own research and act accordingly.

And some of you seem to be doing your best to find reasons to criticise and shame and judge other people who are behaving entirely within the law/guidance.

It might be legal. The half baked guidance might not prohibit it. That doesn't make it right.

People should think about others and not just themselves.

I couldn't agree more, be kind, don't assume the worst of others.
  • Absolutely to the "be kind - don't assume the worst".

It's often not possible to tell what state of mind or state of health someone has just by looking at them.

Add the fact that some of us refusing to wear masks are fighting for everyone's freedom. Remember that British value we've been so proud of - our freedom. We are fighting for everyone's freedom and not just our own. Lockdown/masks/etc/etc is a very poor substitute for "Normal Life" for many of us. Life has to be "Real Life" or why bother?

We were all told this Lockdown was for 3 weeks - and it's still here over 6 months later. That is a long time to be expected to put one's Life on hold for and wait and wonder as to just how much longer it will be before things get back to normal and just how many "pieces of one's Life" will still be there on the table able to pick them up and put one's Life back together again as normal. The only "blessing to count" for many of us right now on this is "Thank goodness I don't live in Australia - those poor people".

Stats for other causes of death are not really relevant as most are for single event and single individuals

With infectious deseases you are looking at cumulative effect of non containment.
Many fatal deseases are relatively easy to contain as people get sick before they become infectious, that's why SARS and MERS don't feature much.

We lose about 1% of the population every year that's over 10,000 people  every week.

During the 1st covid wave an extra months worth of people died in a few weeks, that was with the lockdown in place.

The real issue is we still don't have any effect containment measure other than keeping people away from others.

Testing and tracing contacts can be very effective but we don't have anything in place to do that for individuals at a national level, what we do have has never reached 50% of contacts and most of those take too long.

Opening up education and more people returning to work is a major contributer to the recent rise.
school now have more outbreaks related to covid that any other segment including care homes which were top of the list since March.

The big problem is kids are more likely to be asymptomatic spreaders and often mix with multiple generations, a high risk for grandparents.

  • Just one look at the news article today from Coventry would firmly point the finger at a certain age group.(partially)
Moaning about being isolated In halls and behaving in a totally inconsiderate manner like that - you reap what you sow
Just waiting on the howls of dismay when they are booted off the course with the “but we weren’t doing anything wrong cries”
