  • I filled in their online form over lunchtime today, it just said at the end of it that they would get back to me to confirm that the switch is going ahead for later this month, but the lack of any sort of confirmation email is always concerning - is that normal or should I apply again?

I applied on 24/09/20 and only got a welcome e-mail today. No form of confirmation at the time and a text message last week to say they had my application but were very busy.

OK thanks. Incidentally did you choose a switch date? I chose 15th October, the first available in their list, but if they are struggling this much then surely they have no chance to switching me over in 10 days time...

I can't actually recall what date I chose. I scribbled it down at the time but thought I would get a summary type e-mail with all the info afterwards. Silly I know!  :/

Never request a switch of your main account before you haven't got full access to your new account, and have ensured you can withdraw money. Not so important if you are switching a spare account.

If necessary, you should still be able to stop the switch, either by asking HSBC, or by instructing your existing bank to decline the switch.

Hmm, if I don't hear anything by the end of this week then I think I'll let my current bank know. It seems crazy somehow that they can get you to commit to a move date and then not email you any kind of reference number so you can know for certain if it's happening or if something went wrong during the sign up process.

I would suggest calling them about the switch. Just got off the phone with HSBS and they've confirmed a glitch with my request of switching online (at the time of application) from another current account. It took a while but they've sorted it and it'll go ahead next week, with a letter being sent out to confirm it. Call centre staff have been very helpful, surprisingly so.

Thanks. Do you have a phone number for them? My issue is that I filled in an online form and it said that it was all complete and to close the window and that they would contact me, but then I didn't get any email with details of how to contact them or any sort of reference number!

    Greetings Forumites.
Has anyone received a bonus payment from HSBC on this current offer yet? And has anyone applied despite having been a HSBC account holder since January 2017 - and if so what happened? Halifax and NatWest had similar T&C on their latest switch offers yet still paid up....
And am I reading this right... To apply for a HSBC Advance, customers only have to QUALIFY for a minimum £1,000 arranged overdraft (but necessarily apply for it) and INDICATE they will pay in a minimum of £1,750 per month or £10,500 over 6 months (but T&C for payment of the incentive  do not actually require any money to be paid into the account).

What prompted you to make the call? I've just had an e-mail through to say my debit card is on the way so things seem to be moving along now despite the initial lack of communication.
