  • Hi, I've created an account and just now been accepted. I didnt initiate the switch when creating the account though. Is it possible to set this up now I have the account? Over the app or anything? I read that it has to be done within 30 days of opening the account, just wondering how to go about this.

At least i have found a use for my 3 TSB Classic Plus accounts. Lloyds (£100 received), RBS (£100) and HSBC (£125).

Also switched my wife's First Direct account to a new Club Lloyds account for another £100 plus 6 more cinema tickets.

They say you can do it online but I cannot see anything at all about switching online or in the app. I would suggest you call them. They should be able to take your request over the phone - but do ask for written (email) confirmation as HSBC are notoriously unreliable
  • My latest update... I got a text confirmation that they are processing my new account, but still no reference number or contact details. I'm trying to get through to them on the phone to try to put back my switchover date as it is due a week today. I can't imagine they will be able to honour this date but need confirmation that it will not happen until I've received a card and have access to online banking. Unfortunately I've been on the phone to them on hold for 28mins so far. Sigh.

Got my card yesterday, confirmation of overdraft today and I'm now waiting for my Telephone Banking ID. I called up to get clarification on the Telephone Security Banking ID number as part of the Welcome e-mail says your Telephone Banking ID will arrive in the post but further down it says to call up to set up your telephone banking security number. These numbers are, according to the gentleman I just spoke to, one and the same.

  • It comes through the post. You should get it in a few days. Mine turned up after everything else.
  • Almost got everything now. PIN for debit card arrived today along with a letter saying they would not be able to do the switch on my requested date and so have selected the next available date for me. I can no longer recall the date I selected but new date is next week. Just the Telephone/Online Banking left to sort out now. Will definitely go into Branch on Friday if the code for that hasn't turned up by then.

That's good news, I'm feeling a bit more confident now that they won't attempt to switch me this week as it's far too soon. I've not been able to get through to either HSBC or my current Coop bank to explain any of this so am just gonna sit and wait right now.
  • I set up a switch date from RBS to HSBC on 12th. Having confirmed that I needed 2 S/Os I tried to to this online but discovered needed a card reader. Contacted RBS a week later (7th Oct) as still hadn't arrived but was told I could do it over the phone, so did that. S/Os not showing in HSBC account. HSBC contacted RBS re the account to be switched on Oct 6th, the day before S/Os were generated. As I requested a switch on the 12th does anyone know if I'm technically / morally eligible for the switching bonus? HSBC aren't being helpful.

I've seen people set up DDs/SOs after the fact and still get the bonus.
As an update to my experience, never did get the telephone banking security code in the post so went into a branch yesterday. Set it up, registered for online banking then managed to lock myself out. My fault as I got confused between all the passwords and pass codes it was asking for. Called HSBC and was on the phone to them for an hour. The guy I spoke to was good to be fair, patience of a Saint because he was clearly going through the right steps but the system just wasn't having any of it. After uninstalling and reinstalling the app and going through the set up process about 4 times, computer finally said yes. Online banking finally set up, switch due on Monday. Decided I'm keeping this account for the regular saver and may switch in 12 to 18 months depending on offers available at the time.
