You'll need to do it into the new account not the old one.
If I had £1750 in the old account that would be transferred over so would that not count as paying in £1750?

Possibly not.  Better to wait until new a/c up and running- and also make sure that the money is easy to get back! That's where I might well set up a SO to send it elsewhere.

The cash reward would count as a pay in!

I've read in the past that sometimes it has been able to put money into a new account but a bit of a struggle  to extract it- depends what security is required. Sometimes folk send in £10 and then manually send it out- as a trial
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

  • From what I've read in a few places, it's not possible to switch a TSB account. Is that right? With the interest rate from TSB dropping to 0%, I'm looking to switch.

I've switched a TSB account to Starling yesterday, and the switch was accepted today.
  • I’ve posed a question on another thread regarding opening up multiple accounts with the same bank (HSBC Advance in this case) to get 3x bonus for switching mine, the wife’s and our joint account.

  • For folks who are switching , did you receive any text or email from HSBC that the switch is going through? I have opened account and got card and pin, but heard nothing about the switch (which is due 2nd oct) ? Thanks
  • I literally filled in the form to switch on Thursday so haven't heard anything yet. How long did it take to get your card etc?

I switched my TSB account to NatWest in May, got my £175 from NatWest and now I'm switching the NatWest account to HSBC after setting up 2 standing orders first.
  • I applied and was accepted last night. I was surprised not to receive anything via email or text re the account. Other banks I’ve done this with have emailed right away.

I was beginning to get concerned that I hadn't even had an acknowledgement email but I literally just got a text message saying my application had been received, that they were exceptionally busy and there was nothing I needed to do.

Card came about two days later and the PIN two days after that. Then I phoned up and set up telephone banking, and from there was able to log in online. But no indication that the switch itself is proceding.
