It was far too long a wait and we certainly won't use them again in a hurry.

We had a lovely lunchtime walk up by the golf course. The temperature was just right for walking. It was busy though. We can usually let the dog off the lead up there but there were too many people and other dogs about today. He still enjoyed himself though.

He went straight in the bath when we got home. He was getting a bit whiffy. He's now curled up in his kitchen bed snuggled in a blanket.

Not much happening for the rest of today. The washing is put away, the veg is prepared for dinner later so a chilled afternoon in store.

Just stuck the heating on to give it a head start. It's forecast to be well below freezing here tonight.

Your dog always makes me smile @RelievedSheff

You probably aren't going to like me for this re the weight loss but whilst your meals always look delicious I couldn't eat a half portion of what you plate up so you certainly shouldn't be able to. You and your hubby could eat the steak and chips you put on the plate for one between you, save money on food and lose some lbs, win win. I'm sure you do plenty enough exercise with all the time you're out with the dog. Exercise does very little to reduce weight, it's the amount of food you're eating and the general act of staying active rather than 30 minutes in the gym three times a week. Get the MyFitnessPal app and track the calories you're eating. My Mrs checks mine tbh I'd probably be a fat !!!!!! if she didn't.

What you say is very true. Portion control is very much our downfall. Something we are certainly going to work on.

We will never be gym dwellers. That certainly isn't our scene but we are going to try and get more activity in the daily routine. It's week days when we are at work all day that we need to work on. That will be easier when the nights get shorter again.

Now that Christmas is out of the way and the Christmas goodies are gone we should drop a few pounds off from the lack of snacking alone I should think!

We have lost the weight before without making too many changes pretty sure we can do it again.

I’m my workplace’s wellbeing lead on a voluntary basis as an aside from my day role and I organise a lot of workshops for staff. One workshop that stuck in my mind was from a personal trainer who said you don’t need to go to the gym it’s just about being active in your day to day life. I love my exercise classes but I thought this was really good advice for those who aren’t gym bunnies.

The start of another working week. It's energy payment day today, so £113 gone to them. We will definitely eat into some credit this month. Still got plenty of credit to be going at though so that won't be a problem.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores today. Breakfast was toast (I am trying out how I get on with one slice rather than two), we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is beef in black bean sauce and egg noodles made with the leftovers from yesterdays Sunday dinner.

    Tonight's jobs are:
    • walking the dog
    • weekly shop

Different people have very much different needs - and it's not often possible to tell how much someone eats just from a description of a meal.  Suggesting that people track calories without any knowledge of their past history is also potentially a huge issue - that can be a massive trigger for someone with a history of disordered eating. We really need to step away from statements that make us sound like someone's judgemental uncle at Christmas - "Goodness - are you really going to eat all that?!" or worse, the faux-helpful "Oh wow - I'd be HUGE if I ate the amount you do!" (often accompanied by a simpering giggle...!

Clearly RS you know that your portions can be a bit more than you need - I bet most of us can identify with that as a thing that creeps up on us from time to time, but your general food always sounds so tasty I'm not at all surprised you might end up eating more of it than you intend - I reckon I would too! You certainly don't need to start sharing a meal between two of you though, allowing that your OH as I recall has a fairly active job I can only imagine what he'd think about that plan! Your plan to just cut back a bit, be mindful and move a bit more sounds like it will work for you - and sounds far more likely to be stuck with than a "diet" too. Ultimately body size does not = someone's state of health, and having good sleep, managing stress well, eating a balanced diet and getting some movement in are all going to help us to have a good health outcome.

Your dog makes me smile too - that photo from above is a cracker! He does look a little bit accusing post-bath though, even if very cosy!

Looking at how our energy use is racking up this month we're going to be properly into our credit as well I think - still, it's what it's there for, and like you we are fortunate to be able to afford to stay warm.

We definitely won't be resorting to sharing meals. I can well imagine what the other half would have to say about that  :D

Another cold start to the day. No ice on the car though surprisingly so that saved us a job this morning.

The traffic into work was terrible this morning. For some reason Tuesday's always seem to be the worst day of the week for traffic.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are from stores today. Breakfast was toast (one slice for me again), we have both taken our packed lunches to work (I have swapped my usual sandwiches for a salad box instead) and dinner tonight is cajun chicken breast with wholegrain rice and vegetables.

    Tonight's jobs are:
    • walking the dog (we are aiming for a longer walk each evening)
    • load of washing
The other half has decided he is doing press ups and sit ups after work as well. Starting off with a lower amount and building them up steadily. I'm useless at press ups, I don't have the upper body strength but might start doing some sit ups each evening as well.

You could always do the press ups against a wall. Would still build up arm strength.
