We have been over in the car before.LittleMissDetermined said:Happy pay day
I've never been on the Eurotunnel, something for me to save for once the debt has gone I think

Our friends usually go on the ferry so it's the first time they have been on the train.
It's just so quick and easy.
Price has gone up since we looked a couple of weeks ago though!!1 -
@RelievedSheff - when you actually book the tunnel try and use a laptop or tablet you haven't looked up prices on before as it's likely to be cheaper! Each time you look the price seems to go up with most companies which is why I check prices on my tablet and then actually book on my laptop so I get the cheapest price.
When are you actually going? We're booked to go over in September. We're also going over in June but using the ferry from Newhaven for a change. Definitely a longer journey than Dover to Calais but means there's no need to drive across France to get to our favourite areas of Normandy and Brittany!

The prices we looked at a couple of weeks ago were on a different computer to this one.joedenise said:@RelievedSheff - when you actually book the tunnel try and use a laptop or tablet you haven't looked up prices on before as it's likely to be cheaper! Anyway they are booked now. We travel on the first saturday in September and come back a couple of weeks later.
If it wasn't for the dog I think we would have preferred to travel on one of the overnight ferries. But getting a pet cabin is pretty difficult. So the train is the easy option.0 -
For future reference - P&O have a pet lounge on their ferries Dover - Calais if you want to save some money over the tunnel so you might want to try that another time.

We did check the ferry prices and there really wasn't a deal of difference in price when pet lounge access was added for a couple of people.joedenise said:For future reference - P&O have a pet lounge on their ferries Dover - Calais if you want to save some money over the tunnel so you might want to try that another time.
We decided that the shorter crossing time was worth the extra £20 odd quid.
Plus we would rather not give P&O our money after how they treated their staff last year!!1 -
Can understand that but staff who were treated badly have said on local news that no one should worry about it - other ferry companies have done exactly the same!
For a difference of £20 odd I would definitely choose the tunnel over ferry - sounds like you got a good deal on the tunnel. Our trip cost almost £300 and we're travelling mid week on the return trip which is usually cheaper!

Yes - there was seemingly a lot of inaccurate reporting around the P&O thing - and the majority of staff are now re-employed on better t's and C's than before by the sound of it, something which didn't get mentioned at the time! (I have a friend who has insider knowledge of this and he set me straight on what had really happened a while ago - was fascinating to hear to quite what extent all was "not as it seemed"!
Glad you got your travel across booked OK anyway - you've reminded me that we have ferries that need booking too - I should get on and get those sorted!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡
