It will be a no spends day today.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. Breakfast was toast, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is salmon wellington and vegetables.

    Tonight's jobs are:
    • walking the dog
    • ironing
    • starting to pack for our holiday next week
The washing dried in no time on the line last night after work with the breeze. Not sure why I have not thought about doing that before now at this time of the year. Will save some money on not using the drier.

wow that rally looks amazing - and a right mix of exhibitors too by the look of it! Love the vintage caravan although I suspect I wouldn't enjoy towing it!
It was a really nice morning out. We will look into going again next time it is on I think.

    It's pay day today.

£150 sent to the savings account and £50 sent to Premium Bonds.

Definitely not a no spends day, we have filled the car with diesel this morning and that was £80 for 3/4 of a tank!

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be from stores. It was cereals for breakfast, we have both taken our packed lunches to work and dinner tonight is stuffed chicken with chips and vegetables.

Not jobs other than walking the dog tonight. I have taken tomorrow off work to get the house cleaned and sorted, get the shopping done and get the last bits packed into the van.

They look healthy for now but they won't do once the car repairs have been taken out later in the year and the van servicing and cam belt change next April. It will be back to square one then I'm afraid.

We have only opened the Premium Bonds account to keep some money stashed away out of sight out of mind.

It is too easy to dip into the savings when they are in a savings account attached to our main current account.

@LittleMissDetermined - I only keep about £250 in my savings for the Emergency Fund the rest is in PBs.  If an emergency crops up can just put it onto the CC and then pay it off using the money from the PBs which only takes a few days to transfer.

As RS says it's all too easy to dip into savings if they are attached to your current account.

At this stage, the savings 'habit' is probably more significant than the 'amount'.

Means you won't go from paying debt off to suddenly having x amount spare and no plans what to (sensibly) do with it.

Cars, eh? The great sucker up of money, usually just when you least expect and can afford it.

Your are right in that for us at the minute it is about getting into the habit of putting money away every month. Something we have foolishly never done.

We won't make that mistake again  :)

It is all about getting into the habit of saving, even if it's only a small amount, anything is better than nothing. At least you'll have the money there for the car and van costs and not have to put it on the credit card.

Good idea to take tomorrow off and get prepared for your holiday. Where are you off to this time?
