  • Good plan to take a look at the broadband - shell have just offered us a faster speed than we are getting for £2 less a month so I think we're going to go with that - makes a small savings, improves the speed and saves the hassle of a change of provider too - definitely a small win!

For most people I would agree it is a good idea to change provider to get a better price but as we only have mobile broadband now and even if something cheaper comes along we won't be changing it but only because as long as we stay on the same package we will still get overseas roaming included in the price which we will lose if we change contract!  As we go to France for at least 8 weeks every year it will have us quite a bit - roaming if we change contract will cost in the region of £60 a month which means an additional £120 a year or £10 a month so not a saving at all!  But if it wasn't for that then I'd definitely change provider.  It's the same with our mobile phones so they won't be changed either.

We won't change our phones because roaming is included on those.

But the house broadband certainly needs looking into.

Got a new deal sorted out. £24 per month on an 18 month contract with Virgin for a better speed then we got with BT. Just need to get through to them to cancel our existing contract now.

Sadly I have just missed a call from the campsite in Wells next the Sea but they have left a message to say that they have taken the decision to close the site early so they have cancelled our booking. Need to find somewhere else to stop for New Years now :(

That's a good deal for broadband @RelievedSheff but unfortunately we can only get BT, Plusnet or TalkTalk where we live and none of them are very good speed as we can't get fibre.  Virgin are only available in towns it seems and we're 8+ miles from the nearest town and even they have got Virgin but do have fast broadband from BT.  Our mobile broadband costs £22 a month so we're sticking with it even though the speed isn't brilliant it's better than we ever got with TalkTalk!

Shame about the site at Wells next the Sea shutting over New Year.  Are there any CCC or CAMC sites, CSs or CLs available in the area which are open?  I know a lot of the CSs are open all year and they tend to have EHU if they are and sometimes hard standing.  Worth a look maybe?

Good news about the 0% card and the broadband. Shame about the New Years break but I’m sure you’ll find something just as good.

The debacle with the broadband continues. I rang BT to cancel and they have beaten the deal, slightly, so we are staying with them.

I have this afternoon spent 3 hours being passed from pillar to post trying to cancel the new Virgin account. I am now no further forward. Got another number to call now. A formal complaint will be being lodged tomorrow if I don't get it cancelled. I am fuming with them.

That’s really annoying. I think these companies think if they make it as difficult as they can you’ll give in. It’s so easy to sign up for things but a pain in the a$$ trying to cancel.

Still no joy. I have another number to ring tomorrow. I have given up today, I was getting more and more angry on the phone.

I will threaten them with an official complaint if it isn't sorted tomorrow.
