We are aiming for a low spends day today.
Breakfast is from stores. Full English breakfast this morning. We are going round to the neighbours for dinner later and a few drinks.
Today we are going to try to get through to the other half's car insurance company to tell them we don't want to auto renew the policy. Suspect this will be a long phone call trying to get through!
We are also going to go to the garage that serviced the van in April to get them to stamp the service history book which they forgot to do.
I also need to go to the farm shop for some fruit and vegetables.
We will take the dog out for a long walk as well before the fireworks start again tonight. It wasn't as bad as we expected last night 🤔

Got straight on the phone to the insurance company at 9am when they opened. Have got the renewal price down from £550 to £310 so we have stayed with them.
It really annoys me when they play these games. Why not just give the best price to start with?1 -
I refuse to play the games anymore RS - I now do the comparisons thing, find the company I want to go with, set up the policy and then make the call to the previous insurer which is then of course just to cancel, and is also then guaranteed to give a certain degree of comedy as they realise that their inflated renewal price has been taken literally and is now losing them a customer. Cue tones of complete bewilderment from me when they tell me that they can almost certainly improve on it…”no, that can’t be right, surely that price you quoted was already your cheapest wasn’t it” 😆 The flip side of this is that over time the renewal quotes have definitely dropped too - it’s been a while since I got a really silly one, and I was even with the same insurer two years on the bounce for 2019/20. I’ll quite miss the entertainment going forwards when the new regulations kick in! I figured a long while ago that if I was going to have to make the phone call anyway, I may as well make it a fun one! 😂🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

That sounds like a good way of approaching car insurance renewals EH. In the last few years the renewals for mine have stayed more or less the same each year so I have been very non MSE and not done the comparisons due to other stuff going on.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Our renewal was quite competitive and only about £5 more than last year but I still did the comparison and got an even cheaper price online with the same company! Phoned them and said they couldn't match it so we'd better go with the online quote which we did. That was about £40 cheaper.
I don't think the new regulations are going to do us any favours at all they'll just be sending out inflated renewals and we won't be able to get it cheaper online! Defeats the object of getting competitive pricing.1 -
Car insurance is a nightmare in this house as we have a grey import so none of the comparison sites recognise it.
