If you're going to attempt the NC500 in a campervan expect to see a queue of vehicles in your rear view mirror.  The A836/838 from Dounreay to Durness isn't much wider than a single track road with passing places and a dotted white line down the middle.  We did the trip over 3 weeks, including a side-trip to Orkney.  I can thoroughly recommend it!

    (see A838 - Google Maps)

We have got used to queues of cars behind us this week 🤣🤣🤣

We have pulled over and let them by when it has been safe and possible to do so.

Probably the easiest leg of the trip tomorrow. Straight down the A1 and M1. 😀

Going to swing by the Morrisons petrol station at Bramley to top up the gas bottles (LPG is really cheap there) and stick some fuel in the van for the next time we go out. We have used about 2/3 of a tank of fuel so could easily get back home but would rather fill it up so it is ready to go next time we want to use it.

We always try and fill up when the tank is around 1/4-1/2 full.  Gas we tend to fill up at the end of each holiday or if we intend to get away for a long break - don't bother if we've just been away for a weekend though.

Glad you've enjoyed your holiday.  Bet you can't wait to do Scotland later in the year.

  • Just catching up on your diary and it looks like you’ve stayed in some really picturesque spots.  Certainly looks like your pooch enjoyed it too.

It will only be the second time we have topped up the gas. We did it after our initial four day trip on it when we first got it but have not needed too since. It has only switched onto the second bottle a couple of days ago. We are glad it doesn't seem to use too much gas at this time of year. Will be different in the winter when the heating is on of course.

The dog is shattered. Think he will be straight in his bed when we get home later. Don't think he will be much trouble at all 🤣🤣🤣

A spendy day today getting the fuel and gas filled back up. Probably the most spendy day of the trip.

Breakfast and dinner will be from stores though. Bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast and roast pork with all the trimmings later on.

There is of course a football match to watch later as well. Staying up late on a school night 😲

We have no rush to set off from here today. We are only an hour from home. Will probably have another wander around town before we set off.
