I don't see anything wrong with your replies but be careful how you respond to them in the future, posts by bradders1983 and suejb2 in this thread illustrate. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6182547/urgent-advice-on-adult-texting-a-16-year-old/p2Originally Posted by shortcrust

It's not going to be a problem.
I've decided not to waste any more time or effort replying to them again.2 -
You did imply that it would never be done because of costs. Fair enough, I misread you when I thought you said that it never be done.shaun_from_Africa said:
I never stated anything remotely like "GDPR going out of the window" and I never stated or implied anything about videos not being allowed and you are rapidly losing what little credibility you have left by making things up in an attempt to make a point.sweetsand said:You openly challenged jusdging by your post that it would raise costs so I told your re MB and another Told you re Jaguar - so what happens to your statement re "GDPR" going out of the window as incorrect info.
You clearly implied that that videos would not be allowed becuse of "GDPR" - you comments remind me of those people that talk about the 'human rights' and when challenged by asking the 'which ones' they have no idea.
I stated that complying with GDPR requirements would result in extra administration for the garages and as anyone in business knows (and let me guess, you have been involved in business at some time in your life), administration isn't free, someone has to pay for it.
So how do you explain MB, Jag and then someone said it was only done on "high end cars" when another poster stated "Seat" -
So the bottom line it is being done and your statement was wrong that it would not be done becuse of costs - the costs bit I misunderstood but I stand by what you said that the videos would not be done because of GDPR and costs.-5 -
sweetsand said:IMHO - main delaers at least should video the service as this creates trust or at least video the new parts net to the car and parts changed but the full video idea is godYou of course will be happy to pay for that? Remember it isn't just the cost of making the video but the storage costs too. Assuming we take it to the 6 year statute of limitations rule that's a lot of storage and backup storage that needs to be paid for.And how would you know an oil filter was new and hadn't just been cleaned? Also the engine oil, once the engine has been started to run it through before checking the oil level it is no longer nice and clear how it came out of the container.

I'm guessing you've not read the thread as MB does this in part already, then another poster confirmed that Jag did that then another confirmed that Seat did that - so to ad a bit more have a cam runing will not add a lot to a MB service and trust me just a straightforward service at MB on a B service is around the 1k mark in London - so a few quid on that won't matter.MinuteNoodles said:sweetsand said:IMHO - main delaers at least should video the service as this creates trust or at least video the new parts net to the car and parts changed but the full video idea is godYou of course will be happy to pay for that? IMHO, those that were going to be slack on a car service would then not be in most cases.

Footage is only useful for those that can see the difference between a clean new filter and used filter from the position of the camera point of view. Have you considered that the footage is used to make people feel assured? What it does to actually demonstrate that work is being done correctly remains to be seen. Would you actually know the difference? Have you ever had a car go to service based in the fact that you say that you replace top end cars at 10 months? You'd never have anything more than an initial first service being done. So what is your knowledge base on this?sweetsand said:

Also, the videos that are apparently done showing the service. Are these full videos of the entire procedure, so capturing the old oil filter being removed and the new one taken from sealed box and installed, and similar level of detail across the whole service? That would be a long video, not easy to transmit via e-mail, and very few people would have the time to watch.
On my Mum's car, the video was useless as they did the whole service and then afterwards, but with the car still up on the ramps, did a very quick shot on a phone video, said something like "here is the underside of the car, can't see any damage and there are the tyres, from a view you don't normally get" There was absolutely no meaningful content in there at all.1 -

Oh do keep up.sweetsand said:What marque is the carGrumpy_chap said:I am intrigued by the suggestion of a video of the service as my Mum had her Honda Jazz serviced and, rather than a straightforward service report, they sent her a video

Sea_Shell said:Surely a video of the underside of ones car is pointless unless said customer has the faintest idea what they are supposed to be seeing and looking out for.
Or is it just a "cover our backsides" if the exhaust falls off, 2 days after a service?
Do they talk customers through this virtual "tour" of their car, explaining, in detail that this bit is fine "as it looks like this" or this bit will need replacing soon "as it looks like this"?
Reported as spam? Seriously!!?
😲🤔
What's "spammy" about it?How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0
