So far have found 'Adrian Flux' 0800 0890203
Hi. I put two extra removable seats in my van just after I bought it - DON'T
If you are buying a new van buy it with the seats and windows you want. If you are buying a second hand van; buy one that has all / or more seats than you want and also the windows.
There are only a couple of companies that will insure modified vans / vehicles (ie added to after it has left the manufacturers). Adrian Flux being one of them. This seriously limits your ability to get a cheaper quotes as only two or three companies will quote for you on a modified vehicle.
Better to buy a vehicle with more seats than you want, with the windows you want and then remove some seats. You can then haggle and get one company working against another with loads of companies quoting.
Good Luck WFFS0 -
Hi All. any recommendations for websites or companies please? :cool:0

I am 27 years old, held a licence for 9.5 years and have zero years NCD (never been insured before). I'm getting quotes in the mid-£300s for small vans and the mid-£500s for small cars, of similar age and value.
Is that expected? I'm surprised the vans are cheaper.0 -

Wouldn't removing seats also count as a modification?0 -
Hi, I am a Senior Citizen with a long career in Technical Support. When one of my cars fails its MOT hence cannot be taxed it gets kept off-road and SORNed whist awaiting repairs. Some of the MOT nitpicks are unbelievable e,g. "Offside rear number plate light not bright enough" (after cleaning the lamps and fitting new bulbs the offside bulb is still marginally dimmer than the nearside. Perhaps I should get a potentiometer and a light meter so that they can be adjusted to be 100% identical?) Anyhow I digress. The MOT failures are usually kept insured so that they can be driven to MOT once fixed. Weather, illness and other pressing events often delay the repairs however.
A friend pointed out a Renault Extra Disability Vehicle that was for sale online. This had a 1400 cc petrol engine and it was basically a stretched Renault 5 . The vehicle was a people carrier/wheelchair carrier.
The brainwave was to transfer the insurance from my "dead" Peugeot 406 (needs some new brake pipes and a sill welding) onto the Renault Extra. Unfortunately the retort from my insurers was "Oh no its a van, you cannot transfer car insurance onto a van, you will have to have a separate van policy for it. Its also a modified vehicle" (no it isn't Renault built it like that) It is smaller and less powerful than a Renault Espace (surely a van?) so it does beg the question "When is a van classed as a car? and why are some cars which are basically vans, not classed as vans?"
I can see that no effing use insurance are going to try to make me start again, what a jolly good scam!
A similar scam was pulled on a yachtsman that I knew. He sailed away to Australia and he had a car there that was insured with Queensland Insurance. QI accepted his British No Claims Bonus and out there he was accident free and claim free. On his return to the UK it was discovered that his UK No Claims Bonus was zero and British insurers refused to accept the No Claims Bonus from Queensland Insurance "Because they are not a multinational-company." The only car that he could now afford to insure was a 1 litre Ford Ka and the premiums for that were high enough. These days phoning or faxing Australia is easy and there is also the world wide web. IMHO ignoring a blokes NCB "Because Queensland Insurance are not a multinational company" is basically fraud and theft.0 -

Aviva. I have just got a quote for a van and car. Really good price.0 -
I have a 9-seat VW Transporter window van that I use as a family vehicle, since I could not get a large enough MPV. Anyway I cannot get many insurance quotes on it as it has more than 8 seats. The screenscrapers here come up with nothing. I have used several comparison sites and wasted lots of time phoning companies only to find out at the end that they will not insure a vehicle with more than 8 seats, even though it was factory-fitted that way.
Does anyone know who, apart from VW's own insurance, will ensure such a vehicle?
I had a 9 seater Toyota Granvia and it was a Japanese import that even TOYOTA wouldn't insure. Try a broker called "Lifesure" they were great and not overly expensive for a broker.... Hope this helps :beer:0 -
Aviva will insure your second vehicle with significant discount...0
