  • Thank you for your answer. No the post office is too far away and the local ones have been shut down, ,the post boxes have been vandalised and online is the best system and normally works well. If they are genuine insurers they should notify the system when they receive the money presumably. Why have a good system if people don't cooperate with it?
  • I have a 9-seat VW Transporter window van that I use as a family vehicle, since I could not get a large enough MPV. Anyway I cannot get many insurance quotes on it as it has more than 8 seats. The screenscrapers here come up with nothing. I have used several comparison sites and wasted lots of time phoning companies only to find out at the end that they will not insure a vehicle with more than 8 seats, even though it was factory-fitted that way.

Does anyone know who, apart from VW's own insurance, will ensure such a vehicle?

Try http://www.autonetinsurance.co.uk/ although you may need to phone them rather than do it on-line.
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.

my husband had a crash in his van and the insurance company wrote it off they only paid a fraction of what it was worth and then kept charging the insurance after, they said despite having no vehicle to insure we still had to pay the insurance can they do this?

Unfortunately, when you pay monthly for insurance you're not buying your insurance a month at a time. You're usually buying one year's insurance and paying for it by instalments.

I think the insurers are missing a trick here - there has to be a market for people who would prefer to insure vehicles by the month.
Energy prices are rising fast so if you like my comment, thank me quickly so you can shut down your computer sooner..! And if you believe Al gore you'll be doing your bit for the planet
  • Hi we are trying to find an insurance company (and advice regarding) that will insure a panel van that we plan to modify with seats and 1/2 windows in the back for business and home use.
So far have found 'Adrian Flux' 0800 0890203
  • Transit van insurance - One type of van insurance that you may want to consider is transit van insurance. If you happen to use the van for transit without your business, you may want to go with this type of insurance. This type of cover will be of use when you are taking goods from place to place. Often you'll find great discounts on this insurance if you buy it online; in fact, you can save about 10-20% if you make the purchase online instead of offline. So this type of insurance provides you with excellent deals for your needs.
  • I will be trying out the comparison sites for the first time for my Transit van insurance.
My renewal arrived today asking for 58% more that last year despite no accidents or points on my licence, in fact no changes at all.
    Last year - £312.98p, this year £493.63p
The broker tried to claim "that all policies had gone up by about 40%".
To him, 58% seemed to be as near as dammit to 40% so as not to be much different and not worth worrying over.
I asked if the rise was due to the fact that after being with them for over ten, claim free years, that they had got my age wrong, my date of birth wrong, having been born and lived in England nigh on 52 years, they had me down as a resident for only the past 48.
I aslo asked if the rise was to do with the fact that last year I had TEN years NCD but this year (without a claim made), I now only had NINE.
Something about my tone led him to believe I was angry, wrong, I was F*****G LIVID.
I asked to speak to the manager and was put on hold for so long I ended the call.
I called a second time and advised another operative that I wanted to make a Formal Complaint with a brief outline of the screw-ups his company had made.
Response - put on hold for so long I terminated that call too.

A third call was made with just one intention - to get the managers name so a complaint could be made to all concerned.
Before I was given the name I had to make it quite clear what would happen.
Formal complaint to the Company Main Board Marketing Director
Verbal and written complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Agency
Written complaint to the Office of Fair Trading with a view to having their Consumer Credit Licence limited, suspended, or, with luck, withdrawn.
Charges brought against the Main Board Marketing Director for breaching the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982.
The manager still refused to speak to me so I ended the call.

Twenty minutes later another subordinate called me offering a discount of £40 at the managers discretion in lieu of the numerous errors made.
I advised him that I had already started the complaint process and he should relay to his manager the oriface where the discount and all future business should be inserted, vaseline being an optional extra.
With the managers name, I have so far made a complaint via the Ombudsman, a Formal Letter of complaint has been sent to the company, a written complaint has gone to the OFT and subject to the response from the Brokers (Allen and Allen of Hampton Hill, Middlesex), legal action for the breach of the SGSA will ensue.
Sorry for going on but I am so angry at what these people thought they could get away with.:mad::mad:

Their renewal offer is just that - an offer, which you are free to accept or reject at will. Your response to their offer is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
  • be careful of this one. 3 years ago i insured a van for the first time with no probs. when my renewal came up i decided to hunt around and on the internet i found a good deal and procceded, giving the information that had been stated on my renewal offer of 3 years ncd [although i had only had insurance for 1 year]. i paid for my new insurance and was sent a cover note along with a request for proof of ncd, i phoned my old insurers and asked them to forward details, the informed me that i only had 1 years ncd and that the other 2 years were discresionary? meaning the price they had quoted for my renewal was an introductory offer ?? i argued that they had put in print that i had 3 years ncd and that they should stand by that, they admitted that is was misleading, i replied ithought it was a bloody scam ! on informing my new insurers of this my insurance jumped by just under £100 ! and they agreed that it was sharp practice and they dont use those types of tactics......guess what, my insurance renewal has just come through quoting 5 years ncd, i phoned this 'honest' company and asked them if i could take my 5 years ncd elswhere, their reply was 'no, this is an introductory offer', really i asked, could you tell me exactly where in the small print this is stated ? 'erm..i'll get my manager to phone you' that was 3 days ago...no return call. im sure this is against the law under misleading or misrepresentation and am going to ask the ombudsman on his opinions. watch this space.
