  • Need to insure:
Small car-derived van (about 5 years old)
    for DOMESTIC use only
    Age 57
No no-cliams-discount as not owned vehicle for past 10 years
Not working due to health and will be the carer to my old mum
No tools or other stuff left overnight in van
    expected mileage 7,000 per annum
    Garaged
Any recommendations for insurer who might understand and allow for these unusual circumstances ?
    Thank you
  • I'm getting Enterprise & Covea as the cheapest.
Anyone have experience of dealing with these companies ?

After spending over 4 hours filling convoluted forms in, I have just given up filling these compare site forms and also Aviva's form and in every case they all crashed. To say I am now annoyed is an understatement, more so on Aviva as I was just adding a second vehicle when it decided to crash. If they are designed to do this and !!!! my off congratulations it worked, so tomorrow; I mean today, someone at Aviva is going to get an ear bashing  Its a shame too as the quote wasn't half bad and then they go and spoil it all.

To answer a few retorts, yes I have excellent broadband, its with Orange and my connection has Never < yep I really did say that Never dropped out, it maintains a very consistent 5MB. My router is a Draytek so again rock solid performance, I use Firefox, Opera, Safari and Chrome, with Firefox being my main browser. I use the other browsers for web design and just to make sure Firefox isn't the cause of these woes and 99/100 Firefox isn't to blame. and today is one of the 99 times. I run Hackintosh iAtkos ML 10.8.4 OS X and it too is rock solid. I hardly think its traffic load at Midnight.

Something else I didn't like was the probing for info on other insurance due dates and the lack of an option to NOT answer, so I just put in any old date and I will always unsubscribe and block nuisance callers. If they had given me an choice I would have thought better of them but now I have a low opinion. The more I deal with insurance companies the more I resent them, they are intrusive and that makes me very wary of them.

Giving the dates of your other insurance renewal dates is optional.

You misunderstood that so maybe you did something else wrong too?

    Hi

Thank you for your post. I'm sorry to hear you've been having issues with our online form. We'd be happy to give you a call to go over the quote if you'd prefer?

The reason we ask details of your previous insurance company is incase we have an issues obtaining your proof of No Claims Discount, so we can contact the company for this.

If you would like us to call you, please email your full name, contact telephone number and the best time to call to social@aviva.co.uk and we'll be happy to help.

    Kind Regards

Nowhere on the online van form do you ask for details of the "previous insurance company".

What darkan seems unhappy about is this unnecesary question:
When is your home insurance due for renewal.... [/QUOTE
  • Another insurance company that you might find helpful is Van Cover. They specialise in insuring all types of vans and other commercial vehicles and they have a handy online quote system. An acquaintance found them very useful for his new courier vans.

I can't post the actual link here, but look up vancover.co.uk
