To those switching in BoS accounts, I'm sure they were expressly excluded from the switching offer on the application form.

For context, we were making an application as an existing Current Account customer and whilst logged in.
Yes that is the case.See near the bottom of this page.
    https://apply.halifax-online.co.uk/sales-content/cwa/h/cass/index-app.html#/before-you-start

You won't qualify for the Switching offer if you:

    • are switching to a Basic Account, a Student Account or a Youth Account.
    • are a Bank of Scotland bank account customer switching to Halifax.
It should be noted that page also states:

"You’re eligible for the switching service offer if you switch into one of the following accounts:

    • a Halifax Reward Current Account
    • a Halifax Ultimate Reward Current Account (£17 maintaining the account fee applies with this account)
    • an existing Halifax Current Account if opened before 3rd December 2016"
...But I don't think that third bullet point is actually true. Maybe I did read that bit after all and automatically discounted it as I thought it referred to a previous offer.
The T+Cs I linked to are for the switching service only.
They are not the T+Cs of the £100 offer.
    So then the statement:
"You won't qualify for the Switching offer if you:
    • are switching to a Basic Account, a Student Account or a Youth Account.
    • are a Bank of Scotland bank account customer switching to Halifax."
relates to the switching service only, and rather than not qualifying for the £100 offer, it's that a BOS bank account cannot be switched at all using the switching service according to that term?
The box containing those terms ends with "For more information about our switching offer, please read our Terms and conditions", with the Terms and conditions link going to the T&Cs of the £100 offer. So it's very inconsistent use of the term "Switching offer".
Even more confusing given I've received a SMS message yesterday for my switch from BOS stating "We confirm your switch will complete on 13/08/2020..."

We got an SMS yesterday as well, but only for one of us, all previous messages were one each. Switching both from Lloyds.

I suspect the "switching offer" details on the switching service page just haven't been updated since a previous offer, particularly with that terms and conditions link being redirected to a different address when you click it. That particular page also uses the old website style, not the new style.

MSE giving wrong information about qualifying for this this offer in several stories, best bank accounts, the return of the big bank bribe etc.

”you can’t currently have a Halifax current account”. WRONG!

Reporting this post to mse mods as don’t know another way of doing it.

It almost sounds like there are two sets of terms to cover CASS - one set for being actually able to switch in the first place, and a second for the £100 incentive. Obviously if you can't switch then you can't be eligible for the incentive, so essentially you'd need to be able to meet both sets of criteria? It's interesting then that a few people have suggested that the system lets them start a switch using a BoS account - possibly the switch will get rejected once it gets underway? It's all very confusing for what should a reasonably straightforward offer.

Yes, there seem to be 3 possibilities:
    1) Halifax CASS cannot be used to switch a BOS account and initially accepted and confirmed switching instructions will ultimately fail
    2) Halifax CASS should not be used to switch a BOS account, but in practice these switches will succeed
    3) The text is out of date and switches from BOS accounts are now fine

As for the £100 bonus, if (1) it won't be received, if (2) maybe/maybe not, if (3) it will be received.
  • I wanted to open a Halifax Reward joint account (to switch into) but at no stage in their application process was I offered this option. I ended up with an account in my sole name and a confirmation email saying I could change it to a joint account in branch. When I went to my local branch I was told we both needed to be present and also needed to provide further identification (driving licence / passport) despite us both being Halifax customers. On returning to the bank with identification we were then told we then needed to be interviewed (by phone due to coronas virus) and the appointment waiting time was currently circa one week. We’re now waiting for a call from the Halifax.

Would making a £500 deposit to NS&I income bonds with the debit card qualify as the spending requirement for the rewards?

Good question. I was thinking the same thing myself.
    Does anyone know please?
    Yes, I’ve used it successfully.

Is anyone able to clarify on this, it sates to get the account bonus, you need to pay in £1500 a month, and either spend £500 on debit card a month, or keep balance above £5000.
On the £500 debit card usage a month, if I went to local shop, got £10 worth of goods, and £90 cashback, would that be classed as £100 in debit card usage, or would the cash back not count?  ( I am assuming that ATM will definitely not be counted?)

I think you'd have to test it, I know that on some of the retailer offers that banks do (i.e. 10% back on your next purchase at Co-Op)  some banks include the cashback at til in the purchase amount and others do not.  ATM will not count as it's not a debit card purchase.
BTW, where can  you get £90 cashback?  I have not been able to get more than £50 for ages now.
