Our MA replied to me yesterday saying NW underwriters are working to a 14/15 day turnaround at the moment 😫
    Is that working days? 😳😬
I think so! Which means we probably won't hear until July 😬
  • It’s always working days with NW! Not like they could ask staff to work weekends to clear the backlog…

Hi all, looking for some general advice with our Nationwide application which is taking ridiculously long. Just for a general outline on dates:

DIP & Full application completed on same day - 20th April
    Valuation booked - 22nd April
    Valuation completed - 5th May
Further documents submitted - 9th May
Response from NW asking for further documents - 24th May
Response from NW asking for further clarification - 5th June
Response from NW asking for further documents - 21st June.

I am not sure where to go with this application. I am starting to think our mortgage broker (who we rushed to pick as we needed application to be submitted ASAP) is actually quite rubbish and wondering whether we should consider taking over the application ourselves? Just feel like she isnt really following up with NW or pushing for follow up?

For reference the first response from NW was that my payslips were provided as password protected (we also submitted the password) but NW said this wasn't acceptable. Second was a query about my partners lifeitme ISA which had a big money deposit in April. This was from our first home purchase falling through and literally said this on the statement. most recent one today is that my latest bank statement didn't cover all of April (covers up to the 29th!!!) and now they also want a payslip for May. We submitted our payslips before the end of April and i ordered interim statements up to the day we submitted the application. Also our payslips run from mid-month to mid-month. Is NW being really picky with this? My partners statement and our joint statement also only go up to the 29th April so am i going to hear back in 14 working days that these also arent suitable?

This is our second attempt at a house purchase, we applied for a mortgage without mortgage broker with NW in October 2021. from DIP to offer was less than four weeks and i submitted all the same documents back then. Password protected payslips, half-monthly bank statements and nothing was mentioned. Our vendor is threatening to take house back to market because of how long mortgage is taking so am starting to feel quite stressed :)

Your timeline is pretty similar to ours actually except we did our application directly. I personally think the issues lie with NW, they have been extremely picky with us as well (a £6 difference on our house sale completion document compared to the money that came into the account for instance) and each question asked means you go to the bottom of their pile to process your answer as it has to be reviewed by a specific team who seem to be locked away so you can’t speak to them on the phone to sort out directly.

I have rung, chased and asked them to escalate but they won’t and told that it will take 14 working days to process the latest document or answer. So I don’t necessarily think you’d get anywhere quicker by taking it over yourselves.
  • @Waller97, i feel your pain...we are on wk 7 now & no real response from nw on the last doc. I dont even think the brokers can do anything other than keep escalating it. Have you thought of pursuing another applic alonglide with a diff lender. Our mb is doing this, we are trying metro bank too & will go with whichever comes bk first. I wasnt keen but apparently it doesnt go against you. I also wonder if the increase in cost of living is making them more stringent. Your vendor though would have even more delays if they put it bk on market & started again, this is prob just a threat. We hav this worry also as our sellers are buying a new build & they are obsessed with completing by end of June. The new build company are even trying to get involved in our mort.applic by contacting nw too. We welcome any help tbh!

Hi everyone, silently been reading this thread for the last few weeks and like everyone, just nervously waiting! Our timeline is:

    30/05- full application submitted
    30/05-valuation booked for 16th
07/6- hard search appeared on credit file.
16/06-Valuation completed and the woman said she would be submitting it that day.

And that’s been it up to now. Our MB has said that he’s not heard back about our valuation yet but that “everything else looks to be satisfied though” so I’m hoping that could be good news 🤞🏼

    Good luck all!

  • Been lurking here too, so thought I'd add my tuppence worth!

Signed up late April to remortgage to Nationwide (no broker as the deal was better than the current one I've had for 12 years). Filled out the form and got DIP which they requested a payslip.  All sorted, heard nothing back then got a call about booking a valuation. That was done the middle of May and I got a text update from them saying they had received it.  Then nothing.

Rang early June and waited two hours to be told they had sent me an e-mail that bounced back, strange as they've sent me other e-mails to the address they had on record, asking for more information on my payslip as they had a question over how something was listed by my employer.   Each time they've a question to be answered, it's back to the bottom of the paperwork pile and 14 days later.

Going to ring back later to see what's happening.  At this stage my current mortgage provider has caught wind of my intention to move and are now offering me something similar.

As loyal as I am to nationwide having banked with them for 20 years, tempted to tell them where to go and stay with the current provider.  NW have already left a few marks on the credit profile, but nothing too major.

Oh and the tracker doesn't even recognise my application anymore due to a 'glitch' so I'm reliant on ringing them..

  • Lurker here.... Been reading these forums for a while but thought I'd give you an idea whats been happening with my application as a FTB.

Firstly, make sure your mortgage broker is on the ball. Our MB has been doing all the leg work in chasing and getting clarification and even escalated to other channels. To be fair the responses were all the same from NW that we are in the queue waiting for the underwriter, so just required a little patience in the end.

    Timeline:

    - Offer Accepted 18th May
    - Full Mortgage application 20th May.
    - Valuation booked for 25th May
    - Valuation approved 31st May
    - Hard search 1st June
    - Further documents requested 10th June
    - Mortgage offer 20th June.

  • @botomous You’ve done really well to go from a new document request to offer within that timeframe considering they’ve been at 14 days processing recently. Your broker has done a good job!

If you ask your broker to upload a document before the underwriter asks for it, just in case, does this send you to the back of the queue again?
    Debt was £15,903 😬 Now £2718.14 £0 😲🥳
