Gerry, I'd suggest that you stop confusing the OP even though you are trying to be helpful

They are really struggling to try and understand the situation and chucking in your curve just makes understanding it all so much more difficult.

TBH another couple of days ao even weeks aint gonna make a lot of difference - get it sorted out first rather than getting another supplier into the mix and then having to try and pick the bones out of final bills as well

    Yes that's the one.
You go to get a quote and You put your postcode in on the first page.
That takes you to the next page which asks about dual fuel, type of meter  etc.
Then under that (on the same page, you get how much energy do you use - low, medium high,
Then there's a green box with the add my energy use link within it.
I'd do a screen shot but my laptop isn't playing.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Possibly, but it's a stunningly good deal and it won't be around in a couple of days let alone a couple of weeks.  After all, the OP is trying to save their parents some money !  They will have a couple of weeks to think it over, it doesn't commit them to anything at this stage.  They can always cancel if they get cold feet.

I agree - there are some fundamentals to be sorted first before perpetuating them with new suppliers even if there is money to be saved.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Without trying to confuse you - do you have today's meter readings?. Looking the the "bills" that you are quoting there are a few anomalies which need investigation which either point to misreading of the meter or Estimates so you need to check against the readings whether they have an A (Actual), E (Estimated), C (Customer) or even D (Deemed) against any of them.

As others have said, the amount of electricity is more than I pay and all my heating, hot water and everything else is electric, so there's something amiss there if they are using that much when they've got gas for heating and hot water..

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies. I want to cross of the electricity before i get on to the boiler/gas situation.

    Electricity - 8622wh  = £1132.24

    September 2019                           £68                     446kwh
    October 2019                              £58.34               407kwh
    December 2019                          £56.44                431kwh
    January 2020                              £465.47              3559kwh
    February 2020                            £137.68              1053kwh
    March 2020                                £54.43                 416kwh
    April 2020                                   £47.59                364kwh
    May 2020                                   £88.60                677kwh
    June 2020                                  £17.44               133kwh

Most of you mentioned that the Electricity readings look ok. However i am particularly keen on Jan and Feb as these prices are against the monthly average but quite a bit, Jan especially. I mean, £465.47 for Jan and £137.68 for Feb.
I wouldn’t say they are at all. We are in a similar situation, a retired couple living in a four bedroomed house, albeit only three bathrooms not five. Our ANNUAL electricity usage is almost half what your parents have used in the month of January. We use about 2000kWh a year, and we are heavy users of tech, TV, computers, iPads etc, plus we have an induction hob as well as an aircon unit in the bedroom. So something’s wrong there in my opinion.

Granted, our house is very energy efficient. It is well insulated and we have two-zone heating that is basically only used in months with an ‘R’ in them. We also have a combi boiler so we are not heating water every day, just when we need it. That alone reduced our bills form our previous house massively. The gas looks high too, we only use 8,000 kWh a year on gas and we live in the frozen north! Our monthly bill for dual fuel is £52 a month.

So, they seriously need to look at their usage, as well as probably switch to a cheaper tariff. If these figures are OK then my usage must be extremely low or something, but I’d find it really hard to use nearly 3,600 kWh on electricity in one month.
