Elderly Parents getting Ripped Off

You probably need to start your own thread otherwise this is going to get confusing.MalMonroe said:
Hello! Who is your energy company please? I ask because my energy company says I should pay £150 per month for a two bed ground floor flat and I think it's a little high. . . they started me off on £50 per month when I switched. Many thanks, in advance.Talldave said:
Under £140 a month here for a 5 bed detached eating through 43,000kWh gas and 4800kWh electricity a year.roddydogs said:And of course the size of house, £300 pm is at least 3 times too much for a small house, even detached.
OP urgently needs to review the bills!
However the cardinal rule is to ignore the monthly payment and check the figures on your actual usage. An increase in £100 a month would tend to indicate you have been underpaying on the energy that you have been using up till this point. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
xlcn99 - could you read the meters yourself please - something looks wrong as the monthly bills jump around all over the place.
and what was going on in February - a pre lockdown houseful ?
You quote at the end of the figures a credit of £450 - in the period for which you gave figures they paid over £1200 more than the bills . Were they very much in debt at the beginning ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Hi Guys,
Thanks for your replies. I want to cross of the electricity before i get on to the boiler/gas situation.
Electricity - 8622wh = £1132.24
September 2019 £68 446kwh
October 2019 £58.34 407kwh
December 2019 £56.44 431kwh
January 2020 £465.47 3559kwh
February 2020 £137.68 1053kwh
March 2020 £54.43 416kwh
April 2020 £47.59 364kwh
May 2020 £88.60 677kwh
June 2020 £17.44 133kwh
Most of you mentioned that the Electricity readings look ok. However i am particularly keen on Jan and Feb as these prices are against the monthly average but quite a bit, Jan especially. I mean, £465.47 for Jan and £137.68 for Feb.
That seems particularly off to me and doesnt make sense. I have spoken to my parents and they said there was nothing abnormal about the electricity for those two months. They have one TV and SKY. Normal gas cooker, oven, fridge/freezer. Its not as if the lights in the rooms are on 24/7 as they are two of them. The leave the kitchen light on all night and there is an outside porch light which is on 24/7 at night time for 12 hours but i think its one of those energy saving bulbs. They have a shower but no-one uses it, they prefer baths. So i cannot understand why the electric is so high? Whats more baffling is June is £17.44 and May is £88.60? I mean the only thing i can think of is the FAN usage but again there are two of them and the only put the fan on when its hot.
£465 in Jan is absurd - what could have happened here for this price?0 -
@Robin - Yes i am confused too. Like i said there is nothing out the ordinary in my parents household. They are consistent with their electricity and gas all year around so i like you am confused by the prices keep jumping around each month. It doesnt make any sense to me? Nothing to note in Feb like every month, they live a dull and simple life (do not mean that in rude way).
Do you want me to take a meter reading currently and post it on the the thread?0 -
You need to quote the meter readings and the letters A,C and E for all of them. Are you sure they are reading the meters correctly ?xlnc99 said:Hi Guys,

Is there also an Immersion being used |?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Symbio for electricity, Gulf for gas. But if I was switching today, Ebico would be cheapest for gas. But my consumption will be totally different to yours, so you need to put your own figures into a comparison site. Do start another thread to keep this one clear for the OP's issue.MalMonroe said:

Please delete your post and start a new thread of your own, otherwise it can get very confusing when new people's issues all get jumbled up in someone else's thread. Thanks !MalMonroe said:Hello! Ok - if we can just focus on the electricity then move on to the GAS which i believe from everyone's replies seems to be a big problem.
What shall i post in regards for the numbers.I have been to the meter reading for the electric and pressed 9 and a bunch of numbers come up. Different numbers come up throughout - which numbers do i post on here and how do i know which is which?
Thanks0 -
Sorry - the immersion is being used0
