Ah ok.... we only submitted 26/8 but the wait is so fustrating
If it helps ease your nerves i had a bad experience trying to go with Nationwide and Halifax have accepted me after going to them for my second application (im a sub-contractor with less than 6 months left on my current job). Fingers crossed for you!

🙂 thanks, that does a bit as we have already been declined by nationwide
  • We are in the same position having just been declined by Nationwide going direct. I've been with them for 8 years and they have said i'm now unsuitable. We now have gone with a MB and sent application to Halifax on 26/8 and valuation is booked for tomorrow. LTV is 50% with excellent credit and affordability, just the decline from Nationwide is giving me sleepless nights. They didn't give a reason but having read pages and pages on here i think it's because we frequently use our overdrafts?

    Hi all,
Thanks do much for sharing your experiences.
We have just sent full application earlier this week after AIP being issued. Valuation booked for next week with esurv and required payslips uploaded into the system.

Does Halifax ask for a lot more information/documents after this?

    Thanks so much

I'm not quite in the same situation - I'm not self-employed. However, once I submitted the required documents to Halifax (payslip, show ID at a branch) they booked the valuation and didn't ask for anything else. When the rang me to pay the product fee I asked if there was anything else needed from me. I mentioned that some of my deposit was gifted and asked if they needed a letter to confirm it was a gift, not a loan. I was told they didn't need it and no other documents were outstanding.
I was surprised at how little they required from me.

My broker submitted my application with Halifax on 13th August, around a week later I was told it had been passed to underwriters.
Friday 28th August my broker contacted me to say the underwriters had sent the application back for undeclared credit on my file.
On further investigation, it turned out my experian report hasnt updated for 2-3 months and there's about £4500 more credit showing on there that's now been paid. Gathered together all statements and proof of payments etc and sent it across.
Application resubmitted 02/09 and was accepted by Halifax but has been passed straight to underwriters again due to previous discrepancies. Halifax have told my broker it'll be another 5-6 working days.
Broker has asked them to put my valuation survey on hold until application is confirmed so I dont lose my £200 survey fee (I've reserved a new build which hasn't been started yet so I'm assuming the survey part will be done quickly, I'm in Scotland)
I'm freaking out and driving myself mad but the fact Halifax have accepted the application again has eased the worry...a little.

Is the valuation the last stage with the Halifax? I don't see the point in them doing a valuation (chargeable) if something is going to flag up which could've been flagged before valuation?

For my application (which was pretty straight forward) the valuation was the last stage. The valuation was done on Friday and when I phoned yesterday Halifax said my offer was issued via post on Friday so it seems it was almost immediate once the valuation was in.

Hi @Els100, I think they'd have already done the valuation part if my broker hadn't requested they delay it until the application is accepted. My broker says this way, if the worst happens and the underwriters reject the application, I'll get the £200 fee back as the survey won't have taken place.

    Hi Mary
Thanks for your feedback. I am not self employed...
So far I have been asked for payslips only and not ID, so found that strange...
So was wondering if most peoples experience is the same? Only payslips?

    Thanks
