BT raising call package by £4.50 a month

  • This was discussed elsewhere and possibly on here a couple of months ago. Yes, you can switch to the 700 minute plan (or the PAYG one which charges for all calls) with no penalty (but not sure if it is a new 24 month contract, you will have to ask). Surprised you got no notification, those mentioned in earlier threads certainly did. Interestingly I am on a 500 minute plan, they seem to chop and change their plans at their will and fancy.

I was sent a letter in November reminding me that my BT Sport contract was to come to an end in January and to keep the discount I need to renew before it runs out, I will also 'keep on saving £19.59 a month on broadband'. 2 weeks ago I received another letter reminding me about the BT Sport contract but now the 2 broadband renewal options are £6 and £9 MORE expensive. I don't need the 700 minutes of phone calls, I am currently on weekend only calls but never use it for outgoing calls always use our mobiles.
I will ring them in the next few days but have others had a similar situation and what happened?

AFAIK , there is the PAYG as well as 700 mins and unlimited option for phone calls, if you never use the line to make calls this is obviously the landline call package to go for, no calls made , no cost

Thanks iniltous, do you know who much cheaper PAYG is than 700 mins included? I don't seem to be able to find definitive info about the breakdown of the packages. I want to be prepared before making the call to them.

Found the info now, I can save £7 if I don't have the 700 minutes added. But they don't seem to give me this option when I look to renew online, I can't see an option to change the renewal package?

The cheapest offer for me when I look on mybt is Fibre 1 like I am now but £4 more expensive and it doesn't state what the associated phone minutes / period is. It does not give me the online option for any other tailored plan.

The old packages were weekends ( free ) evening and weekends and unlimited, these changed to PAYG ( no calls included ) 700mins (£7) and unlimited, and AFAIK, they supposedly advised people on the old packages they were to be moved onto what BT considered to be the closest match to the new packages, ( there wasn’t the option to stay on the old packages ) but the letter/email they sent when this was introduced a few months ago , gave the option of not accepting BT’s choice but your selecting your own.
If you cannot pick the PAYG option online , you may have to call, 0800800150 is a free call regardless of old or new packages
