BT raising call package by £4.50 a month

I have also received the email from Bt today. offering me the joy of the same package that I had but with the added benefit of paying an extra £4.50 a month. Although my bill states that I have a package, I was told by the customer services operator that I had no package and no contract. When I queried the fact that if there was no contract I couldn't be charged for leaving at anytime I was told that was not so. Also the operator then told me that I would not be paying £4.50 a month but that it would actually be £12.00 a month. Again when I queried this, saying that if I had done nothing and allowed the deal to go through in September they would be guilty of misrepresentation of some sort, I was told that I shouldn't have received the email at all and then we commenced going around in circles.
Is it me?

I will do that, and see if it corresponds with the package my bill says. Thank you.0

I have a BT unlimited broadband and unlimited phone calls to landlines (not mobiles) for 18 months starting last October. I'd switched from Plusnet broadband, and they threw in the free phone calls. I had the email which states they'll put me on the new phone plan for an extra £4.50 a month. This will save me money, they say, because from December to May I spent an extra £2.50 on calls which were not included on my plan! I phoned the helpline, who told me it would cost me £4.50 extra a month for unlimited calls, or £7 extra a month for 700 limited minutes, not, as the email stated, "no extra cost to me". They agreed it made no sense, but advised me to look elsewhere. I wonder if they've skipped any staff training recently due to Covid-19? Or is BT always so hopeless?

if you do opt for the £4.50 option be careful that it doesn't become £12.00 as it was eventually, with digging, revealed to me.1

Sonds crazy, but perhaps they've been told to get rid of some customers, especially if they are currently on good deals?0
-
Well yes, I was on a good deal and had resisted any attempts to "upgrade" to any packages offered. So I wouldn't be surprised at all.0

Does not make sense to get rid of customers as posted above .Contracts are no more than two years , plus two built in price rises .
Add on a drop in OR charges in recent months .Add on upselling and FTTP .0 -
I received latest October BT bill month ago, found I had been swopped to Unlimited Minutes Add-on from Unlimited Anytime Calls Add-on call plan from 1 September with no notice & massive £4.50/month increase, now trying to find out what is going on !
I did not receive any letter or email notification about this.
Can you swop to 700 minutes call plan with no new contract ?
