Definitely won't be surprised if NR is one of the ones announced tomorrow. When I was looking around for a half-decent fix about 3 weeks ago, I did find them and almost did a panic-sign up because the prices were so good, until I took a step back to actually think about it. If it's too good to be true, it probably is, I'd never heard of them before, and small suppliers were dropping like flies... nope, a very daft idea to sign up with them!

I checked them again out of interest a couple days ago, expecting that they would have put the prices up like everyone else - nope, still quoting 17p a unit! There's no way that's sustainable right now, it's well below the cap and even the cap is making energy companies a loss at the moment.

I reckon a lot of people have signed up to them in the past few weeks simply because they were the cheapest by far. Maybe NR were hoping loads of new sign ups on their "6 up, 6 down" payments where everyone pays more in the first 6 months would hold them over until things calmed down...
It almost feels like a few weeks ago they'd just given up to the inevitable, gone on autopilot, and attempted to get as much cash in as possible by signing up folk desperate for a cheaper rate as possible.

  • @Inigo_Montoya Even the SOLR system is looking a bit dodgy at the moment, as the BIg Six suppliers are losing patience with it. They don’t like making a loss, and having to absorb hundreds of thousands of extra customers all at once. Shame.

Plus, for customers, it means poor service from them becomes even worse. I’ve tried to escape from Scottish Power 3 times, but they keep coming back for me!

Knew it wasn’t going to last long, but was hoping for longer than 3 weeks with them 🙄

Just makes it all the worse that these teetering companies were out there these last few weeks pricing themselves the cheapest and taking on hordes of new direct debits out of new customers, when their positions are so shaky,

The Neon Reef twitter feed is empty, did they never post or has it been emptied pending demise?
  • If they’ve gone, then !!!!!!, but it’s saved me nearly £40, after 2 months with them, just a case now of sit tight and enjoy the ride - and hopefully zog keep going over the winter
  • @WillPS They never used twitter in my experience. Or Chat. Or phone.
  • Due to submit readings on Friday anyway, so I’ll do them first thing tomorrow morning and photograph the meter.
  • I received my Welcome back on the 3 October and it states I have 14 days under the cooling off period to cancel contract. May be an idea to to cancel now rather than wait. Would be interested to know what others may be doing.
Neon Reef got plenty of money coming in from all these new customers from Symbio, they are not short of money only staff to reply to emails.

After thinking it over and  if it turns out to be Neon Reef then I will just wait for Ofgem to appoint another supplier. Also in the meantime I am still getting my electricity for 17.30p per kw.  I think by trying to cancel the contract under. the 14 day cooling off period it may just cause me more problems.  TBH I should have known better but never mind.

If their licence is revoked tomorrow then won't today be your last day of electricity at that price?
