I'm really not sure why you'd want to cancel. I mean, what tangible benefit would you get?
There's a chance that they won't go bust immediately which means a few more days or weeks on a slightly cheaper rate. Then there's the roll of the dice with the SOLR where you could conceivably end up with something better than the price cap, otherwise you've still lost exactly nothing.3 -
Never mind, just take OFGEMs advice and let it all come out in the wash. Eventually.
I have every confidence in the energy industry and the Government. They wouldn’t let us down, and I don’t mind having 3 credit balances floating around for ever. I’m sure they’ll be refunded without any active intervention by me. It’s not like I’ve anything else to do.1 -
Of course you are probably right. However I very much doubt it will be acted upon. After 2 years with Symbio I really do not want anymore hassle. We only use about 10 to 11 units a day and our house is very energy efficient. Therefore I am going to stick with one of the 6 big suppliers from now on. I have not recalled the dd payment as I that may cause more issues.Petriix said:I'm really not sure why you'd want to cancel. I mean, what tangible benefit would you get?

Hi All,
A bit of advice and information if anyone can help me please ……
We became a NR customer yesterday and they took our first DD yesterday too.
I know the possible risks of them going bust are now getting greater, or at least it seems so.
My problems are that so far I haven’t received a single response to any of the 3 emails I have sent to them, I tried calling them but there’s a recording telling you to use email. I have sent emails to both help@ and compliants@ but no joy.
My SMET 2 smart meter doesn’t work - should I expect it to ?
More concerning though is my main unit Smart meter is reading zero !
How can I supply a meter reading if it says zero - it shouldn’t, we were with EDF before and it was working fine up to overnight Monday just gone.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers

Neon has yet to go ‘bust’. That said, under Ofgem arrangements, suppliers continue to trade until the SoLR is appointed. I would have thought that if a legal contract cancellation had been received but not actioned then it is possible that the SoLR will do what is required. Whether it is worth or not is a different issue.Inigo_Montoya said:
Would what the rules say work in practise in this situation though ?[Deleted User] said:
Suppliers have to honour the 14 day cooling off period. If the supply has been transferred then it has to be transferred back to the old supplier if the contract is legally cancelled.CRISPIANNE3 said:
You would think under the 14 day cooling off period we could cancel but in their eagerness to do a quick cash grab I just do not think that would work. Also you have to be careful about cancelling the dd because they may impose the £15.00 fee.tg99 said:I’m live with them Friday with first DD due that day. If they go bust before then presuming best to cancel DD?
Lets see what happens today. Once we know definitely then we can all explore the options open to us.
If Neon Reef were to go bust today or in the next few days how likely is it that a request to cancel a "1 week rushed" transfer still in the cooling off period would actually be processed in a timely fashion ?
Especially when the transfer was away from another supplier that has already gone bust (Symbio)
In my opinion if Neon Reef were to go bust today/shortly it is far more likely that such a request will simply not be acted on, at least within a reasonable time frame - you might be able to get the SoLR to sort it out later but that could take months & a lot of time & effort

My advice for what it is worth would be in these circumstances to reclaim the D/D - assuming that you want to transfer out - while there is still a chance / still something there. There is arguably little to lose whereas if you leave it until they go under the bank may have difficulty in claiming from a party that no longer exists (!) I suspect that were this to happen your bank would be liable under the D/D Guarantee but do you really want to be the test case?Telegraph Sam

Neon reef do not currently have the ability to read smart meters so you have to provide them manual meter readsnobby1963 said:Hi All,

Did you take a final read when the smart meter was still working or does your EDF online account tell you the final read ?
- this final read is obviously important if you smart meter has reverted back to zero as you say
Are you sure there are no other buttons you can press on the meter to get it to show the current non zero read ?1 -
Trying to get any energy companies to communicate with you at the moment is difficult. I have emailed Neon Reef and received a response about two weeks later. This was about delaying my transfer date to Neon Reef from EDF and by the time they replied it was to late. (I am also in communication with EDF about an issue I raised two months ago, which they are only addressing now after I have left them.) As other people have said, make sure you have your readings from your changeover.nobby1963 said:Hi All,
