why british gas evolve? Is there some tariff that is cheap? They seem ridiculously expensive for electricity. In south west is 19p/kwh and 22p standing charge, not particularly competitive.greyteam1959 said:

I have a nasty feeling that the end is nigh for these smaller companies & I really don't the hassle of one of them going t*ts up on me.
I am probably going to go to British Gas Evolve for my electric.0 -
There were lots of reports not that many months ago where Utility Point customers were being moved to Neon Reef (same directors) and Neon Reef were attracting customers with good tariffs. The only scenarios have to be that either they are wanting to get enough customers on board to then be of interest to a larger supplier to buy them out (so Neon Reef investors make money from the sale) or they have to increase their prices (and hopefully not loose too many customers in the process) to try and be profitable and not go out of business. That's the thing in the market place - either you pay high prices or take a risk the company you deal with stays around long enough. Many of us like to get a cheaper deal, which means taking the risk. Unfortunately, none of the electricity companies around are business we would like to use by choice however that means there is no real choice!Don't rely on the "referral code" bonus from Neon Reef, look on their Referrer Scheme T&C's - if you cancel your contact with them (ie switch to another provider) or they go out of business you are liable to lose the credits from referrals from Neon Reef which means they can potentially claw that back from your account:

It is competitive within the big '6' or '7'.niktheguru said:

Isn't the point largely of being here money saving?,which is not really a priority of "big" suppliers who in my previous experience dont offer anything much worthwhile over the smaller ones.
No real need to trawl the depths and scrape the bottom of the barrel (Symbio) but should the worst happen there's the SOLR provision in any case,I'd agree though that 22p standing charge and 19p/kwh is not competitive at all.
I through necessity have no option but to barrel scrape, due to financial constraints just started another 13 month fix with Symbio and will be paying 12.238p/kwh and 10p standing charge, area 18 Scottish Power.0 -
Reason B.G Evolve featured within last week or so as cheap energy club best 2 year fix ,plus 1 year free boiler cover with B.G.niktheguru said:

I really don't see whats so good about the big 6. The big 6 in general aren't competitive. Also, people seem to perceive they are getting something extra from these providers. Just look at the first two pages of this energy forum and see how many complaints and reports of lack of service there are towards EON, Scottish Power and British Gas (yes, 3 of the "big 6")......so bascially you're paying the premium for what exactly?greyteam1959 said:

The price of 19p/kwh and 22p standing charge is simply not competitive at all. You're better off going with octopus....at least they still give some sort of customer service.2 -
B.G Evolve seemingly best 2 year fix amongst larger suppliers, E.ON Next exclusive via comparison sites is again offering 7.35p ish standing charge per fuel making it I think cheapest 1 year fix amongst larger suppliers depending on usage of coursegreyteam1959 said:

Are you going to pass through the forums all day splitting hairs? 'Cause from what I am reading, that's all you have done.bristolleedsfan said:

I would be prepared to concede that for anyone who can use and live with a smart meter - I myself do not - the Octopus Go / Go Faster tariffs are probably as near as one can get to having the best of both worlds. The problem is to find the least worst alternative between the two extremes.Telegraph Sam
There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know0 -
