I moved to PfP variable summer tarrif. Hopefully, it won't change next week. My rate with Neon Reef was: 12.11343p per 1KWh and 13.2825p standing charge.
    PfP:
    • Night Unit Rate: 10.2396p per KWh
    • Day Unit Rate: 12.9675p per KWh
    • Standing Charge: 20.1794p per Day
I hope you've done the sums yourself rather than relied on the PFP website.  PFP are notorious because they give fake quotations for Economy 7.  They start by giving an 'Estimated Quote', which is a contradiction in terms because a quotation is for a fixed amount, it can't be an estimate.
If you then ask for a 'detailed quote', PFP ask only for your total annual consumption and then unjustifiably assume 55% night usage, falsely claiming that this is 'the Ofgem average'.  They use this arbitrary amount (far higher than Ofgem's real average of 42%) to give a fake quotation that's often much lower than the reality.  PFP are gaining customers by deception.
I don't look at their estimated monthly or annual cost. I compare price of units and do my sums based on actual usage data. Night units are cheaper than current Neon Reef flat rate and day units are similar to Neon Reef price. Unfortunately, couldn't find anything with cheaper standing charge. I used to use around 24% of electricity at night, but since I moved to flat rate with my last two electricity providers I didn't bother to switch on dishwasher or washing machine at night any more. I will have to go back to that habit.

My new Symbio fix is cheaper than I was paying with NR
    Same here.
And on checking my bills it is less than I was paying Symbio last year - 13.455 / 17p compared to 12.609 / 10p this contract

They're saying symbios latest fix is cheaper than symbios previous fix.
PFP and symbio are the cheapest providers by a mile. NEO comes next (though getting a quote or a switch with neo is near on impossible, so not a particularly positive omen.) The rest are much more expensive. You're probably better off staying with octopus tracker at the moment Sam. The window of opportunity for cheaper deals has long gone now.

I agree with your last two sentences whilst keeping an open mind. It's worth paying a modest premium to be spared the hassle associated with the cheap brigade. At one point I considered Outfox but now I don't think there is a lot to choose between them.

I have just started the process of leaving Neon after their rather large increase after closing Aqua 1. Am going to Pfp. Symbio are cheapest but life is too short to go with them again. Doubt if they would have me back after taking them to the Ombudsman anyway.

Do you really think that there's sufficient intelligence in their operation to identify you as someone who took them to task.

You are giving  them a lot more credit than they've demonstrated so far

I applied to switch to PFP and they have emailed me saying Neon Reef have objected the transfer. Call me cynical but is this PFP trying not to honour the original tariff they offered ?

Who knows. I just don't need the grief for £40 per year. My compo easily covers that anyway. Their prices can't last long.
