In Ofgem speak, direct debit is "Other payment method"; quarterly is "Standard credit".

The price cap in the Southern region (for 3100 kWh) is £694.37 for DD, £742.86 for quarterly.

    Yet the prices on "Welcome.." are 20.680p per kWh, 24.113p per day. 20.680x3100 + 24.113x365 = £729.09.

That appears to suggest they are charging more than the price cap for DD customers. How is that allowed?

Because you will not be on the DD - they said we are being treated as quarterly/cash customers at this stage

Well, that's scam number 1: charge your unwanted SOLR cusomers extra by forcing them for pay quartely when they were perfectly happy on direct debit. I'm sure refusing to allow customers to pay by the cheapest payment method is against the rules just as much as refusing to allow customers onto the price cap tariff (as has been reported elsewhere on the forum, where suppliers push new customers onto their expensive fixed tariffs).

But in any case, if you check the direct debit prices for "Welcome to British Gas", they are the same as the quartely credit prices. So my assertion above that they are overcharing DD customers who are supposed to be on the price cap still stands.

In fact, the prices for their "Standard" and "Standard Variable" tariffs are also identical. So where is the cheaper direct debit tariff that conforms to Ofgem price cap? What are BG customers at the end of their fixed deals moved onto? Are they ripping off all their customers, or only us?

VAT. The prices in the table Ofgem publish do not include VAT.
    Here are the VAT-inclusive rates:

Thanks @QrizB , you have solved my problem and put my mind at rest in pointing out that VAT is missing. However, the table you provided is in fact the one excluding VAT; the Southern figure is exactly what I quoted above. If you add 5%, it comes out as £729.09, in other words exactly what British Gas are charging. Therefore the tariff we will go onto is indeed at the direct debit price cap level. This is actually a benefit for those who prefer to pay quarterly as they will also enjoy the lower price.

Just noticed price is fixed until July 2022 so thats a bit of an upside as presumably we won't get hit with the April cap increase till then (unless they mean fixed as in it matches the cap) and hopefully by July there will be some better deals around 🤞🙏
It's a Variable tariff though so they can change with 30 days notice.

It also says that this tariff may no longer be available to be signed up to ...   brewery & p iss-up come to mind :D
Well if it is the Welcome to BG tariff we get put on it says on the tariff info

Tariff ends on 31 July 2022
Price guaranteed until 31 July 2022

Looks pretty fixed til that point in time to me, although I agree it states its a Variable tariff and in the footnotes says that variable tariffs can be changed with 30 days notice (so slightly at odds with each other).

I agree about the brewery comment  😅

Well on the proposed BG tariff , I am likely paying roughly the same per month as I did when I was with Bulb about 9 months ago ,   (yes I know what's happening  to bulb currently).
Seems I am using less electricity now compared with my Bulb days (I moved house since then) , which accounts for the  levelling out of cost.
So not as good obviously as NF were but surprisingly not historically an extortionate increase for me but price uncertainty remains for the months ahead and beyond April.

The table (which is my own, inevitably flawed, work) only adds VAT to the final values, ie. the daily SC and ppkWh columns. The source data columns are still Ofgem's ex-VAT numbers.
That is how I could be so sure you hadn't added VAT, as the annual value exactly matched Ofgem's own.

Why do people copy and paste information from a site we all have access to?
Perhaps because a poster made a statement, and when asked for the source, cited a piece of legislation.

The copy and paste was to show how I did not feel it was a clear source of the information that was given earlier (and which I still suspect may have been incorrect)
