Is the price cap the same for direct debit customers as for quarterly payment customers? I know someone above has said that the "Welcome to British Gas" tariff has the same prices for both payment methods, but is this capped according to the direct debit price cap?
I guess people who have pasted prices for gas have done so in error. Neon Reef only supplied electricity, didn't they? Our gas suppliers should remain unchanged.

on their Q&A thing, they said that we will be put on the welcome to BG tarriff, and that we will be treated as quarterly billing to begin with, so i am GUESSING its to get us onto the system, then once on we get whatever offers they have at the time (either the DD cap, or quarterly cap, or fixed, etc)

Is this definitely a British Gas tariff and not BG Evolve (even if we pay by DD as i know when previously you did a quote for BG and tick pay by DD it takes you off to BG Evolve).

If so then does that improve the chances of those of us that went in chat re the Zero Fixed Oct 22 and have transcripts that say we can transfer to that tariff once our account is set up (but were too concerned to previously try it because it meant initially signing up to a much worse tariff)???   Nothing to lose in trying it I guess once we have our BG accounts set up.

(plus I don't want to go back to BG Evolve as they might figure out they short charged me last time they were my SOLR...although somehow given their shortcomings I really doubt that 😅)

It suggests that we will all be set up as quarterly bill/cash or cheque payments initially then switched to DD ,so I assume that the tariff will only change if you don't go to DD ?
  • Just got my latest bill from NR  - like the line: "It might be worth thinking about switching your tariff or supplier" - bit late now

In Ofgem speak, direct debit is "Other payment method"; quarterly is "Standard credit".

The price cap in the Southern region (for 3100 kWh) is £694.37 for DD, £742.86 for quarterly.

    Yet the prices on "Welcome.." are 20.680p per kWh, 24.113p per day. 20.680x3100 + 24.113x365 = £729.09.

That appears to suggest they are charging more than the price cap for DD customers. How is that allowed?

Because you will not be on the DD - they said we are being treated as quarterly/cash customers at this stage

Just noticed price is fixed until July 2022 so thats a bit of an upside as presumably we won't get hit with the April cap increase till then (unless they mean fixed as in it matches the cap) and hopefully by July there will be some better deals around 🤞🙏

It's a Variable tariff though so they can change with 30 days notice.

It also says that this tariff may no longer be available to be signed up to ...   brewery & p iss-up come to mind :D

That brought back some memories for me.  Years ago I worked at the Inland Operator Service @ BT (the 100 Operator).  Every quarter when British Gas/Scottish Gas sent out the bills our lines would be very busy because people would dial their account number rather than the telephone number.  All the account numbers started 100xxxxxxx so they would connect to the Operator Service.  And yes, BT could not help.
