I have been able to spend a LOT of time working on my finances and monthly budgets. I've made a few great spreadsheets and have been able to save so much more money due to not having to fill up the car with petrol.
I love spreadsheets! I have a (slightly off topic) daily steps graph from lockdown.
  • I have discovered the online interactive quizzes run by Mockingbird Cinema in Birmingham - they do general knowledge, movies and also specialist ones - Harry Potter, Friday Night Dinner, Disney, Marvel Films, all sorts - lots of fun, very good value for a fiver.

After years of asking to work at home 1 day a week and being told it would cost too much to set up, I've now been home 95% of the time - and loving it. No commute, more sleep, fewer distractions at home (I don't have kids), spending less on snacks and lunches, not having to answer other people's phones when they take their 500th smoking break of the day, sitting in my garden at lunch time, actually being in when deliveries arrive. Fantastic. I do (very) occasionally miss being around people, and I've noticed a bit of "us vs them" between the people who are  (unnecessarily?) back in full time and those of us kept at home, which isn't great, but that's humans I guess, we'll always find something to get annoyed about!

My workplace has been trying to get people to use video meetings for years, without much luck, and now we just do them as default - if/when things go back to normal-ish, I hope this continues for a lot of them, it saves so much travel time between sites (and associated costs, pollution etc). I also think people behave better on them - less interrupting, less whispering to people next to them.

MgComp & GabiB - I too love a spreadsheet - I have finance ones, step counts, films I want to watch... updating them can be quite soothing

    Thats funny DFV! I
it reminds me of many years ago when freind of my daughters came round, she said,
    - i wasnt sure which house it was and then i saw that jumper your Mum always wears hanging on the line.
    never wore it again!

Just to keep on topic, ive discovered to my surprise how much I do actually like other people, i generally think of myself as very insular and self sufficient but oh boy I do miss  idle chitchat

I can't say just one best thing - One is the pub quizzes on youtube, another is a Ch4 programme called Damages, I've loved the many different memes doing the rounds, I've found a new place to walk to, and having my ideas re-inforced of just how nice people generally are ;)

Don't a great many people do that during "normal" times ?
  • Incense sticks, quiet and peaceful day times so I get twice as much work done, saving £100s a month, before-work walks, proper breakfast, nourishing lunches, less alcohol, hours gained per day
  • Quizzes!  Never really been into them before, but a great way to connect with family and friends and have a giggle
