An after thought..... us who are exempt from any help, will we have to foot the bill for all this grants and furlough, ie higher tax band (just my own thought) even though we received no help?????
Very probably yes. The Drs, nurses, cleaners and porters & everyone else in the NHS we’ve all clapped every week will be paying for it, as will the carers, supermarket staff and other key workers who’ve worked throughout this pandemic. If they’re all going to be facing the extra tax burden then why do you think you’re more deserving of a special exemption???

Quite simply because claps or no claps they were still working so receiving a wage
The majority of the millions excluded have not had a penny of help   While others have had up to £2500 a month when they couldn’t work

  • Thanks Martin for this..
Worked as PAYE most of my life until the company I was working for went in administration in Feb 2019. Decided to register as sole trader and change my career as music producer and performer. I used my savings to go through the winter while I was building my portfolio. I had a promising spring/summer season planned but everything got cancelled within a few days. Then,I found out I was not eligible for any of the support schemes and the world crashed on me. I have managed to sign up with UC but it had to be a joint claim as I live with my partner for 22 years. Because my partner managed to make a few quids with her online classes (yoga teacher), I received only £225.00 for a whole month from UC, no other benefits. We live in London and it's very expensive, even in lockdown.

My son had worked for a local company for 6 years. He resigned in Jan and finished work in April. Ex Company will not re employ to furlough, as they are able to...... New job cancelled, due to current situation .....so no help for him. Applied for UC and still await their decision. He has received zero help.
Thank you for highlighting the very many areas that have been excluded.

3million is just a hypothetical figure assuming the worst.  It is complete guess work.   It also includes groups that are not worthy of campaining.

As WASPI showed us, campaiging for the unworthy individuals dilutes the cause for those that genuinely need help.
The data comes from HMRC and ONS. What do you mean by not worthy? Where is your data for this?
  • Thank you for your support Martin. I am one of the 3 million #ExcludedUK refused furlough despite being eligible by an uncaring and callous employer. Thrown into a situation where I have no income or support through no fault of my own despite working over 35+ years paying taxes and NI. All myself and I’m sure the other 3 million ExcludedUK want is what we need to survive, and what we are entitled to which is parity to every other working person in the country. Not to be cast to the wolves to watch everything we have worked hard for drifting away from us and being engulfed in a sea of debt which is not of our own making

You're right... it's probably more than 3 million as we don't yet know how many have been denied or unable to furlough. The 3 million comes from ONS and HMRC figures.
  • Thanks for taking up our cause Martin. Self-employed communications consultant who has worked from home for 14 years. Earnings over £50K so ineligible for SEISS. Ineligible for UC due to working husband. Ineligible for council grants as worked from home.

My client is in the business of putting restaurants in airports. I only need to combine the words “restaurants” and “aviation” for you to fully understand how badly my industry has been affected. Prior to March 2020, my client was building one new restaurant a week and hiring approximately 1,000 employees a year—all based on new business wins of $100m-$200m+ per year. New business wins achieved from complex business proposal responses that I wrote. My work help to create literally, thousands of jobs and, distributed exceedingly healthy financial gains to thousands of British shareholders. My work has contributed extensively both to the UK as well as the US economies. Yet, in the UK, where I pay the highest level of tax, the Conservative Government has given me zero help. How is it, that the government can distribute some £60+ billion in no strings attached grants to those "most severely impacted" by COVID-19, and for me, and every other self-employed individual in my position who has fallen through the imposed arbitrary gaps, there is nothing? How can that be?

How can it be that two self-employed people, living in the same household and earning £49,999 each can together take home £5,000 in grants per month while I receive £0? How can it be that an individual earning £150,000 on PAYE can take home £2,500 per month and I take home £0? The disparity is enormous. The cut-offs are too arbitrary and inconsistent. To lose half of your household income in such a dramatic manner is simply unfathomable. To lose half your household income and receive no support whatsoever from your government is soul destroying. I have read increasing criticism of the Conservative Government’s COVID-19 response. I would hope that the Government would be able to take this criticism and affect positive change for those constituents who are now in their 13th week of zero income and who can demonstrate the greatest loss and the most dramatic change.

  • The 50% rule is unfair if you earn 10K a year in 2018/19 then those are your earnings, how do they justify giving 80% if it’s from self employment and 80% if it’s as an employee but if you had a job left or got made redundant and became self employed or got a pension etc then you get 0, they have the figures they know what we earned where is the fraud?
  • Why are all these newbies thanking me? What have I done?
