  • Thanks Martin for helping the millions of people like me #ExcludedUK
I worked in public education for 8yrs. Left on Mar 18th. Lockdown happened. New job on hold. Old job cannot furlough me even if they wanted to. Why? Because the gov guidelines state that publicly funded schools cannot access furlough! How ironic? That a publicly funded job cannot access a publicly funded scheme? 91 days for me today without any income. Single parent of twins. Not eligible for support.

Wow, thank you for this. So many excluded and desperate. Together, and with Martin on board, we can make fairness happen. Also anyone affected should head over to ExcludedUK on FB (and Forgottenltd for those set up as ltd companies).
  • SHIELDING don’t forget those forced to shield!
FURLOUGH should have been compulsory but employers were given the choice to just pay SSP. This is discrimination against the sick and disabled
  • I am one of the millions who has fallen through the gaps. I went fully self employed too late so my self employed income was less than 50%of my total. So zero help from the government. My business has hit rock bottom and I am making no money at all. Why am I not worthy of any help when so many others are down to their circumstances? When a blunt tool is used to quickly sort something out then it needs to be revised at some point to ensure it is fair. I really hope that this happens soon with the SEIS rules. Thank you Martin for listening to us and trying to help
  • Had the nerve to skip holidays and earn a few pounds too much four years ago and fall foul of the arbitrary SEISS cap. A cap not imposed on CJRS which accepts income earners way in excess of the SEISS cut off cap (and please don't comment saying their is a £2500 cap in CJRS I'm tired of explaining this is not what I am referring to)  Nowhere near a false £200k wealth bracket and well below the child benefit line, and less than two moderate £26k earners in one house. So for a few pounds extra (4 years ago) I am entitled to no scheme assistance for my family. There are simply no alternatives to scheme inclusion,  and I am sick of hearing the 'wide range of measures and alternative schemes' what, debt? This is not about 'wanting' As Mr Sunak keeps saying (by the way nobody wants £0) its about 'needing' fairness to all other taxpayers who are receiving assistance that we are paying towards too! I notice the vast majority of those counting their 80% cash are very keen to tell us all to 'move on' or to look at other scheme options, with their cash safely in the bank. As for paying 'to those that need it most' that's just an utter bowl of tripe. As billionaires business owners and the very rich in the unlimited PAYE scheme both currently benefiting are certainly not in that 'need it most bracket' . How can someone on £100k PA (now) be deemed to be fully in need of up to £20,0000 of CJRS scheme assistance and someone who earned (not now) a fraction over half of this be deemed to require £0?  There is the time to sort this out, Mr Sunak has had since 26/03 to start working on the gaps, and he has plenty of time to do so still. The TSC report tore apart all the straplines, get outs & time excuses and advises the Gov to get on and act on it now. It's now time for Mr Sunak to read the report, and get on with the addition of people into the scheme that should never have been excluded in the first place.

Just some of the 3 million reasons!

  • I was made redundant from full time employment and had paid PAYE for 29.5 years, HMRC knew my redundancy date was 31/12/2018. I started self employment because I found three companies that had bits of work for me, I filled my self assessment for 2018/19 in September 2019. So 100% of my income has been from self employment since 01/01/2019 and then work dried up in mid Feb 2020 and I’m #excludeduk because I earned more through employment than self employment during the 2018/19 tax year 🤔 HMRC have 33 years worth of info on me and I get no support when my government shuts the UK’s economy down 😡. I like many other workers just want to be treated with equality.

They are trying to wind down the support, they will not now extend the criteria for the various a schemes out there.

As has been suggested many times on the (long running, repetitive and frankly tiresome) thread on the very same subject, there are multiple schemes helping the vast majority. Not everyone can be helped, not every job will be saved.

Your 'campaign' is fruitless and you should focus your endeavours on how to earn income from elsewhere. People are getting second jobs, universal credits, taking advantage of payment holidays on any monthly finance etc.

Your focus should be on this, rather than 'flogging a dead horse'.

Rishi Sunak's response on the Marr show pretty much reiterated they will not extend the eligibility of the schemes further.
Martin Lewis stating in his latest newsletter that Govt should listen. He understands the issues so many face.
  • Thank you MSE for highlighting the millions exempt.
I am a self employed hairstylist, 15+ years of books. I am also a director of a ltd company for past 3 years. No self employment grant as my earnings from SE is less than my annual earnings from ltd.co (only by £150!!). No furlough from ltd.co as i pay myself annually. Trying to better yourself doesn't really pay off in this country!

  • Thanks for your support on this.

Yes I’m one of the excluded because I have worked damn hard as a sole trader over many years and my recent profits mean I have exceeded the £50k threshold.

    To those who think I don’t deserve help because I have previously earned so much, I say this;

I have paid more than my fair share in tax (some at 40%) to support this country. I am 50 years of age, have always worked and never claimed any type of government benefit.  Why shouldn’t I be entitled to compensation because of this virus like everyone else?

If you say ‘you have earned enough to save for a rainy day / you should have planned better’ well yes I have saved for a rainy day..... not a rainy 6 months though.  My family and I have lives off our savings since March and also used them to prop my business up and pay its monthly fixed costs so that hopefully, I can salvage something and have some sort of business to go back to when I can.  Savings aren’t a bottomless pit.  People cut their cloth accordingly and if my fixed commitments are higher than those of others, so what?..... Just like everyone else I am entitled to spend what I work hard to earn, on what I want, when I want.

There are some (not all) who are eligible for the SEISS who are claiming AND continue to work, thereby now potentially earning more than they did before this pandemic and laughing all the way to the Bank with their ‘windfalls’ whilst millions of us are getting nothing - is that right?

Small businesses like mine employ staff.  Because my business has had no work since March my staff are on furlough and will cease to be working for me when the furlough scheme stops because I am not generating any income to pay myself let alone anyone else.

When I and millions like me are unemployed at the end of all of this and have to claim benefits, the country will miss our taxes that help to fund the NHS, the schools, the Police, the welfare system etc.  All you people who are claiming support and are lucky enough to still be earning something will have to prop the country up and support me and countless others when we’re stood in the dole queue.

So don’t just think short term and say we are ‘flogging a dead horse’.  Think how not helping us now will effect the economy and you long term.  There’s circa 3 million of us excluded for a number of different reasons who are all in a very similar (or worse) situation to me and who are desperate and facing financial ruin.  As contributors to the UK economy why should we be excluded?

Yet someone earning twice as much as you can pick up up to £20,000 under the unlimited cap CJRS scheme. And there are some very wealthy individuals currently benefiting from this unlimited cap scheme. Complete scheme discrimination.
