  • I run a small travel agency. Working in the travel industry at the moment is pretty soul destroying :( having to refund my hard earned money and not earning a penny for over 3 months. I have been excluded from every government scheme. The only thing is a BBL but I don’t want to get into debt. And why should I? When my self-employed colleagues are being given financial support. I’ve paid taxes for 24 years and feel really let down and have no idea how I will be able to continue trading.
I’ve always been so proud that I set up my company and work for myself without any debt. And now I’m being forced to either spiral into debt to keep my company afloat or cease trading and join the masses job searching or applying for job seekers. I’m absolutely broken.

The Government stated 'No One Will Be Left Behind'...........well I certainly have been as zero support as I work from home and am trying to keep my business afloat. This is NOT just for me but for those I employ to................I hope that they will have a job too.

Fraud is the main reason it is not extended to those that missed out. If it was open for the newly employed who were not yet on the companys PAYE system then it would be open to massive fraud. We would have one of the biggest monthly Job hirings on record, with family and friends suddenly being employed and stuck on the payroll

Yes am aware of the fraud risk, they could have added a checkbox or some form of manual check to help those who were genuine (emails/contracts proving they worked in March or paid the same annual PAYE for the last x tax years). And yes it would take time. The excuse that it would take too long or is fraud is moot in their cases. Being on payroll wasn't the issue, it was the RTI submission. They're already doing tens of thousands of manual checks now for people and sending rejection letters based on existing rules. They could have used the same time to help these people. Instead they're wasting it. It's what HMRC are good at.

  • Thank you Martin for your support in highlighting our exclusion, it means so much to be heard and even more to have your voice with us. All we want is to be treated fairly, we just want what everyone else has otherwise our companies are not going to get through this to come back to life and provide employment for those that work for us. Why are we excluded? We really appreciate everything Martin is doing, small acts of human kindness mean a great deal at the moment.
  • 8 years a childminder. 7 years self employed, 1 year a Ltd company. Forced to close by Government. No help via a grant. Can’t enforce fees. How can we survive?
  • The first 3 posts clearly from lottery winners. None of the above affects them, who decided who’s jobs get saved. Stupid comment not all can be helped. We all should have got equal help.
I agree not all jobs will survive that’s a given but why are some helped, and still might not survive. Others with a good chance of surviving are not helped, Why!!!  If your on one side of the street you get help and the side is tossed to the lions. It’s a Lottery and a farce and you can not defend it.   We all pay Taxes and we all need help.  As for the fraud comment, We all pay tax, and HMRC have all this on record. They could simply cross reference this and clarify any claim.  Any fraudster would be exposed instantly, plus just because their maybe a weak link in the system means I get no help. Stop making excuses for a poorly thought out system that has left 3 million with no money for 3 months. The government induced the lockdown not us but We have to pay for it. I Genuinely believe Rishi had no idea on the numbers  he excluded. Finally I reserve the right too stick two fingers up at any negative comments from you idiots in your ivory tower.

  • Having read most of the posts I've seen a few critical comments about what we are about and though I respect your right to your opinions,  and your absolute right to say what you think, may I just say this.
I will presume that you arnt having the issues we are and that you probably have a stable income and not too much effected by this. If that's the case then you should really be supporting us.. Why? because if we do indeed fall to the govt sword over this then we go onto benefits... and who is going to pay for all that... you are! You can be sure as eggs is eggs, taxes will rise, NI will rise, so tax payers will have to pay for all of this when it's over...  if we fall we won't be tax payers,  we will be a cost to the tax payers like you! So, come on, support us and save yourself some money, you'll only be more angry and stressed when you realise you are paying for us to live.
    Just saying 😂

The comments from the ignorant and misinformed regarding fraud and tax
The current scheme along with cut off dates was designed to help as many people as possible, those people who could be checked quickly online that they were genuine claimants.
Fraud is the main reason it is not extended to those that missed out. If it was open for the newly employed who were not yet on the companys PAYE system then it would be open to massive fraud. We would have one of the biggest monthly Job hirings on record, with family and friends suddenly being employed and stuck on the payroll

But the RTI cutoff date was originally made for the wrong month 29th Feb then moved creating the problem! Govt announced lockdown on 23 March presumably the schemes were being built at that time so had they thought it thru fully and realised many payrolls are not put thru till the last day possible by so many payroll operators! So 31st March Should have been the original date set which would have not allowed time for fraud to occur (& very minimal if it did) there’s an est 1.5 million new starters affected by this many young ones finding themselves homeless now & having any savings to help them thru! & men With very young families really struggling. So it’s the governments error as in all the gaps. An easy fix would be a To be able to apply for One off grant giving similar support as CJRS but evidenced on previous months records from previous employment. Same could be applied to all personal gap fallers Imo for whatever reason they were ineligible a later check & claw back can be implemented via tax returns as they will be doing in the SEISS.
& a separate one for business fixed costs to help all the SME’s.

An after thought..... us who are exempt from any help, will we have to foot the bill for all this grants and furlough, ie higher tax band (just my own thought) even though we received no help?????
Very probably yes. The Drs, nurses, cleaners and porters & everyone else in the NHS we’ve all clapped every week will be paying for it, as will the carers, supermarket staff and other key workers who’ve worked throughout this pandemic. If they’re all going to be facing the extra tax burden then why do you think you’re more deserving of a special exemption???
