Pointless? I think not. I know for a fact that Tractorgirl shopped a cup of coffee this morning on the strength of my 'quite hard' clue. Plus, nobody actually thanked me. No, no, really. It's fine really. All go 'free' shopping at the Residence of The Scottish One From Dad's Army thanks to me... :A

The guessing game is pointless. You may as well just name the client and be done with it. The end result is the same. The clues are not 'quite hard' they are very simple. :D

Many people seem to think that Mystery Shopping is a bit of a laugh and a way to make easy money and they treat it as a joke.

Mystery Shopping is a serious business, not just for the client but also for the employee who is being shopped.

Many of the posts on this thread make it clear why some Mystery Shopping companies can get away with paying peanuts ..........

Sorry don't know the number for TNS HR, just checked my pay slips and no number there either. You could try contacting Paul Bingley-Hall Paul.Bingley-Hall@tns-global.com 0208 967 4217, when I have been in touch with him before he has always been pretty helpful.

I thought the guessing game was quite fun, so I'd better go and stand in the naughty corner! :p

I also have to say I agree with Hollypear in that I have a bit of fun doing MS, but that's not to say that either of us (I imagine) don't report properly or aren't properly conscientious about the work we do. Just because we do it for a bit of extra cash or a few freebies on the side, doesn't mean we do a slapdash job!

I do even allow myself to have a bit of fun in my day job too, thank god! It's not against the law, you know!

On the other hand some of the burger jobs sound like a farce in themselves! Never done one personally, but they sound quite funny and I don't think it's the MSer's fault if the employees and the MS firm both know they know who we are and can't be bothered to do anything about it.

Perhaps we should play, guess where Chas is from, seeing as he/she seems to like cryptic clues?

Oh, sorry, that might be quite fun, I'd better stop myself now...

Geordie Rover - you need to keep records of all your expenditure and all your income. You may also take into consideration that a proportion of your travel is on your pass, so you can claim that proportion of the cost of it against your mystery shopping income.

You also need to keep all your original receipts - some companies (TNS for example) ask you to send in your receipts to them but you can actually just send them photocopies. I have done this for all my jobs and been paid just fine.

You can also offset the cost of your printing against your income - you can claim 6p per page printed (thanks to Timmne for that little nugget) OR you can claim the cost of ink and paper used. I find the 6p per page easier as how are you supposd to keep track of the amount of pages per ream you use for business / pleasure?!

Any calls you make make for shopping can be claimed and possibly a proportion of your internet connection too.

Please anyone correct me if any of this is wrong - if not then I hope it has helped!!
