I wish they would make it illegal for anyone other than registered breeders to breed dogs.

Why would they make it illegal to unregistered breeders? Its their animals, they should be able to breed them without it costing a fortune to make someone else rich. Its bad enough the vets costing a fortune for basic stuff.
The worming stuff was a tenner, when the vet quoted a couple quid. But on the day it lept up to a tenner. Its as if they charge what they like. The shot of whatever they had to give the mother to get the contractions going again was £116. I'm thinking is this stuff made out of liquid gold. And how can you justify £800 for a c section? Luckily we didnt need one. But faced with that expence it's enough to just put the animals to sleep and knock it on the head. If I knew having pets would cost an arm and a leg I wouldn't have them personally. But my partner has always had dogs and various pets.  Where she lived before had a PDSA where vets bills were next to non, but Cornwall doesnt have one.

What puzzles me it does the occasional scamper on her back legs fine. Thats why I dont know if were just worried over nothing. When you think how a puppy has to develop in just a few weeks its amazing really. I think this one is just a bit behind. We will find out on Thursday.

You really don't have a clue do you?

Do you realise how much health care would cost YOU, if we didn't have the NHS? £800 a C -Section sounds about right for a vet you do know you pay for every stitch, every swab used?

No one should be breeding for sale unless they are registered. As you have just found out, its not an easy route to a pot of gold, you now have a b1tch who's probably going to struggle to whelp naturally if she ever gets caught again, and you have a sickly pup who's worthless and is going to cost you an arm and a leg, because believe me, the owner of the "stud" is not going to want to take it, which means they will charge you for servicing and you are the one with the vet bills

So the Stud was neither health checked nor proven? Just some random strangers dog

Oh, I spent over £1k in 2019 on vet bills for my rescue cat who developed herpes, I think the final bill was £1200, and guess what? We paid another £300 this year having blood tests done and having to have him put to sleep

You do not have animals if you can't afford them or the insurance policy needed. You have posted on these forums many times how you are struggling to meet your bills and keep food on the table. Deciding to allow your b!tch you have pups was not only stupid but in my mind near on criminal
I already explained why we did it, so that daughter could have a puppy rather than buy one. It wasent a money making venture.

Will you give over on vets bills

They don't charge what they like, they charge what they have to

My vet is a farm vet, we have a corridor to wait in as a small animal keeper, we are fitted in around cows, sheep and horses. Its an old house in the middle of a field, ie, the vets own land. So my vet doesn't have the overheads that a town vet will have. But still, they can not sell the drugs any cheaper because they cant buy them cheaper. Most vets will give a prescription to buy online if its a long term condition, of even mention of record, the human equivalent that can be bought over the counter. Vets aren't there to rip you off. You have. chosen to take cheap insurance and go a route that's not covered by the insurance, thats your problem
Yeah I get we made a mistake this time, doesnt everyone. I certainly wouldnt be doing it again. I didnt realise pet insurance doesnt cover breeding costs.
The reason I think they charge what they like is why does the costs vary so much. She quoted 2 pounds for worming liquid on the phone, then when we got there its 10 pounds. Plus the xray is listed as an estimate. How can an xray be an estimate? Its no wonder I am suspicious of them.

But why am I personally being bombarded with abuse when its not my dog or puppies. Im only here asking advice. I thought it might just be nothing wrong with it.

With the worming liquid either you miss-heard or she made a mistake on the phone.  £2 is so cheap, I would have queried it.
The x-ray is probably an estimate because it will be for one x-ray.  If further problems can be seen, more x-rays may need to be taken.

Ok, so what would you have done when your daughter's puppy required medical intervention that you couldn't afford, or resented paying for?

The point being that most pets, and possibly particularly dogs, are expensive.  You should not get one unless you are willing and able to afford vet bills, which can easily be three or four figures.  For the anticipated lifetime of the animal. It seems you can't so you daughter should go without until you can.

Because you've basically spelled out your inability or reluctance to pay for the veterinary care your dogs need.  It's not abuse you're getting, it's strong advice tinged with despair that you've put animals in this situation without thinking it through.

If you don't like hearing it or think it doesn't apply to you, please pass it on to your partner and daughter to read.  This is quite serious stuff.
