Yes X-rays are expensive and if the pup is poorly and needs further investigation and treatment, you could possibly looking at huge figures. I take it they weren't insured at birth?
So we are praying nothing serious needs doing to this lazy one because we dont have funds for that.
It was never meant to have been a money making thing. But at the moment its costing dear already. I dont know how vets are so expencive. They warned us a C section would have costed £800. But thankfully that wasent necessary. I find it odd why doesnt pet insurance cover everything?0 -
Because you aren't breeders, you didn't buy the expensive insurance which would cover whelping. Rather like buying car insurance, 3rd party, fire and theft, compared to all inclusive with all the bells and whistles
Im also assuming that neither the stud nor the b1tch were heath tested, as those tests can also run into the hundreds5 -

Vets are expensive because they have to have undergone six(?) years' training and have to cover the running costs, medicines, equipment and overheads of their business. Pet insurance can cover pretty much everything if you pay for the appropriate policy. If you've gone for a bargain-basement policy to save money then it's not surprising there are exclusions and probably high excesses or low claim caps.

I will admit that. It all started when my partner was looking online for puppy Shih Tzus cause our daughter wanted one. But my partner was chatting to someone on facebook and they said why dont you just borrow our stud dog and as long as we have pick of the litter you can have one for your daughter for nothing. So of course my partner went along with it. Not realising our pet insurance didnt cover birth complications.
But because the insurance is in the mothers name I am assuming the puppies are not covered am I right?0 -
I maybe wrong but we felt the vets just couldnt wait to book an xray because its money in their pocket for just doing an xray. I was thinking they are only 5 weeks old, surely just wait another couple of weeks to see how they get on would have been the best advice. Occasionally it does walk ok, I just think its temperament is lazy anyway compared to her sister.
I wanted to see if other Shih Tzu owners who had puppies finds 5 weeks too soon to judge yet. What harm could another couple of weeks do?
They cant leave the mother until towards the end of June anyway.0 -
Facebook?! It gets worse...4

I wish they would make it illegal for anyone other than registered breeders to breed dogs.

In case you were thinking to give it another go to recoup your losses and get your daughter a puppy

My opinion. You should take your dog to the vet for a check-up.

No such thing as a lazy puppy and the vet knows this which is why they are suggesting an X-ray.Norn Iron Club member 4737
