definately deduct it from his allowance, that's they only way he'll realise what difference he is making to your finances by buying such things.
  • Get him to take the stupid thing back!
...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.
  • I've been going down the "make him guilty" route, sighing and counting the pennies in my purse, sitting on the living room rug emptying my moneybox to check for spare pound coins and saying very loudly "Well, that's 6 quid I have to last for the week... Did you know it's my Mum's birthday on Wednesday?" So he knows full well he cant come to me for anything at all. I've not bought him any ready meals to take to work while he's on late shift either, as I wanted to spend 7 pounds on a free range chicken instead of 4 on a indoor reared one.

Anyway, work today, have hit my target of 290 commission but hope it's busier than it has been, this year is very quiet. Doesnt help that holiday prices seem to have gone up about 20% either. Hopefully this will mean lots of customers for lates season in Jun/Jul, where there will end up spending as much on the holiday as they will do booking it early. More commission for me and a quicker end to this hellish indebtedness.

Well, he learned his lesson when he realised his little purchase left us mega short of cash before I got paid.

He decided he needed some new clubs and has ebayed a pile of old LPs to get them, bless him. I would have prefered to put the £200 toward debts, but at least he's left the credit card alone.

Going to clear a few debts on Friday, once I've done my calculating. Will update my sig to show when it's done.

Big son got into his first choice of school for September, but have since found out his bus pass will be £67 per term. Eek.
  • Congratulations on your son getting a place in his preferred school. Second the Eek on the bus pass cost though.

Good news your OH has made some changes. As you said it may not come off your debts but it hasnt added to them.

I've not read everything but by the looks of things your fella clearly needs to not join the golf club and stop buying expensive golf stuff if he has any care about you guys getting out of debt. I've given up loads of stuff so me and the gf can get out of debt.... easier said than done I know though with some people..... but are you a team or does he think his money is his to spend? if so his debt is his to clear.... a large chunk of our debt is from my gf's uni fees, (worth it in long run) but i'm paying more than half of that 'cos i earn more... anyway...... good luck :)

It's a bit late for him not to join the golf club as he's already paid his first year's subs.

Anyway. Is it rude to hang up on someone calling from an indian call centre, unsolicited, when we're registered with the TPS? Cos that's what I've just done.

Update. Bl**dy OH still cant keep his bloody spending under control, he's had at least 60 pounds out of the cash machine since last thursday and I know he will be pleading poverty come this Wednesday. I'm as good as gold, though, so I'm patting myself on the back. I've decided to wait till next month to see how much I have spare to pay the cards off because of his messing about and have squirreled the surplus this month away so I can pay a huge chunk next month. He's said today that in his next pay he will be getting a backdated payrise, so we'll be 120 better off next month and about 40 every month after.

My Mum, my sisters and I have booked ourselves a weekender cruise on a big posh ship for September and good old Mum is paying half and for all the petrol and parking for us to get down to southampton, so I'm going to need a party frock. Not too worried about that, I'm going to start trawling charity shops for something lovely in the summer, I just wanted to show off :D

Renewed my car insurance last weekend, so I'm just waiting for my cashback, plus I've set up so the 30 odd pounds I already have in Quidco will go into my paypal account soon.

So, in summary, I've done !!!!!! all in real terms, but I'm getting used to taking it slow and steady and next month will be the biggie that knocks almost 10% off the frightful debts.

and what does he say about it?

i know you have a challenge going with him, do you think he's trying to sabotage your challenge without realising it?

I really don't know what to suggest about your OH, you work so hard at tackling the debts and then he does something stupid. It doesn't help you when we give you suggestions about what you should say or do because you know your OH best and need us here to support you whilst he's not. So here's a dodgy (((((hug))))) lol

I suppose just saying keep hanging in there is also naff, you must be feeling so angry and dispirited when he does sommit daft. Now i don't normally like separate accounts when people are married but would it pay to try and separate his into an account, get a monthly transfer to a household account he can't access and leave him to reap what he sows? Sorry i know that seems harsh.
