For info...Chain of events...
1. The flight was cancelled.
2. Ryanair sent me an email with a link to receive a refund.
3. I claimed the refund via the Ryanair link.
4. I received an email from Ryanair telling me that the refund would be back in my account within 28 days.
5. 4 weeks later, I received an email from Ryanair with a link to a voucher for the flight cost.
6. As I didn't want the voucher, I raised the complaint.
7. The email above arrived this morning.
The request was for a refund...not for compensation.

Hi all, can anyone tell me if you have to start the refund process with RA first, before approaching your bank? Or can you just go straight to your bank, without even applying for the refund with RA. It seems by far the simpler option but I wasn’t sure if I needed to at least attempt the refund via RA first. Thanks!0

Thanks!If it’s a Section 75 (credit card) then you technically have the right to go straight to your bank as the law states they are jointly liable. That said, they will also likely say you need to try the merchant first.
To be honest getting the voucher isn’t hard. You wait until your flight is cancelled, fill in the refund form, wait for an email with the voucher. At that point you can go to your bank and legitimately say “I asked for a refund, got a voucher instead and can’t get in touch with them now”0 -
Hi All
My flights in May were cancelled, so I decided to move them to October at no charge. When I tried to rebook them on the manage booking facility they charged me an extra £30 for the flights, which I can live with, but they also wanted to charge me £60 to change the luggage to the new flights. I'd already paid £100 for the luggage. I think I'm going to have to cancel completely now. Do you get luggage refunds with the cancellation refund voucher? Thanks.0 -

Not sure how it works exactly if you added baggage or seats after the booking. But haven't seen any complaints that people were short changed on the voucher value.1 -
Having tried for hours to get through to the live chat to get a refund instead of vouchers with no luck, I approached my credit card company (Amex) for chargeback on three separate bookings made with Ryanair. The money has been refunded to my credit card within 3 days (even including the weekend). Thanks MSE for the usual sound advice.1

I booked flights to Tenerife for the 22nd of May, I received an email from Ryanair on the 8th of April giving me the option to change my flights free of charge. My problem is I have a time share and the hotel will only open in September, but they can only accommodate us in December, as they are fully booked till then. Ryanair say they will charge a fee as this will be beyond the 31st of August and they will be an additional charge for the flights, and I can't get a refund as the flight is not cancelled. Can anyone tell me what my rights are?0
