Might be worth watching this with interest

SPG Law is a ‘no win, no fee’ law firm based largely on American lines and frequently acting in partnership with such law firms. They promise a great deal, including full unreduced refunds to the claimants.  (and have a good success rate with very large and highly publicised actions). They do add however, that they would seek considerable compensation averaging an estimated €1,150 per person – from which they would need to deduct 50% for their trouble. They need such publicity via much social media to spread the word, of course, but with a hoped for 10s of 000s of disgruntled claimants, it all begins to add up for such trouble.

They also state that they are presently only considering the merits of looking into BA, with the other airlines a further possibility; but with very considerable, and inevitable, legal opposition from the airlines, whether in the light of everything that surrounds this present situation this is the wisest or quickest route to follow must be up to the individual. There are some with very large refunds due, but with Ryanair the majority may be relatively small, I would imagine, so pragmatism might prevail – however uncomfortable.

I have to use Ryanair for my prime destination at issue (there is no alternative UK airline) and need to travel at the earliest possible date, so in the light of their latest thoroughly objectionable missive, I will seek the quickest and least hassle option to suit myself myself – again, however unpalatable.

The only problem you have is that Ryanair are a Rublic of Ireland based company and there si not a lot the UK Government can do about it toehr than via the EU and we know where they stand with the EU.

Looks to me like nothing more than an ambulance chasing legal firm trying to get themselves publicity.  Even if they do persue do you think they're doing it to be consumer champions?  Or doing it to line their own pockets?
  • Ryanair booking details for my flights have disappeared from my account! I have only received email with offer to change flights. No offer of refund and no voucher either. When I click on the link in the email it takes me to my Ryanair account where it then says I have no bookings? I tried phoning them and was told that I’m not being offered a refund as my flight (Edinburgh/Budapest) on 22 May hadn’t been cancelled?????  Obviously this is total nonsense and still doesn’t answer where my booking details are? I am at a total loss as how to pursue this? I paid with my debit card (RBS) and have confirmation emails for both passengers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and good luck to everyone else chasing their refunds.

Flights for that date haven't been cancelled yet.

You need to wait for the " your flight has been cancelled" notification

  • Thanks for the advice . There wasn’t an agent involved I booked with Ryanair direct, it is themselves that are putting these charges on, which are totally ridiculous. Ad you say I’ll wait for now and then address it nearer the time , many thanks

Sorry, I read agent and mis-understood.  Ryanair have only waivered their change fee for bookings up to 31st May, so that's why they would be adding the change fee on to the booking.

I would wait it out.  it's highly likely a booking for June will also end up cancelled.  At which point you'll get a voucher from Ryanair valid for a year, or you can then pursue a full refund.  I wouldn't be changing anything to August at the moment anyway until the picture is a bit clearer.
  • Regarding Ryanair/Easyjet. We have now tried to get refund through bank as payed on debit card. They obviously need proof of payment, it was booked through love holiday and they are saying they have no information on our flights.  What's going on with these companies !!! I feel for my friend who did the original booking.

The problem I have with vouchers are that when flying becomes available to us, prices will skyrocket.

After being flogged a voucher and waiting 5 hours on online chat to request a cash refund and still not getting anyone to talk to me, I have requested a chargeback on my card with bank saying it will take a few days for the money to come through. Ryanair are in breach of contract as money id paid but no service been delivered.
who is your credit card company?

I am in the same situation as everybody else having requested a refund, been told it was being processed, and now have received the voucher. Each time I receive an email from them about the voucher I reply with the subject 'I DO NOT ACCEPT THIS VOUCHER. PLEASE PROVIDE THE PROMISED REFUND', and with the body of the email ''I DO NOT ACCEPT THIS VOUCHER. PLEASE PROVIDE THE PROMISED REFUND'. It goes to a customer service address. I don't know if this is manned or not but I do therefore have evidence of rejecting every offer of a voucher that they make. I am just concerned that they will take any silence as acceptance of the voucher. In reality it is probably unlikely that Ryanair will be in any more of a position to provide a refund in 12 months than they are now!
