Regarding some of the anger I’ve been reading, talk of bringing insolvency proceedings etc. Get a grip, it’s only a flight refund, people are dying and others putting their lives at risk to look after us all. I’m grateful all I’ve lost is a holiday.

We all know what O’Leary is and what you’re getting when you book Ryanair.

Have you actually considered that some people may just need their money back to put food on the table? It really doesn't matter what you think of O'Leary and what you are getting, people have paid for a service, if they are not going to get it, refund people, simple as.......
unless of course like most of these travel companies they simply cannot afford to refund everyone. If the airline goes bust in the process of "simply" refunding everyone then that doesn't help us much when the dust settles and we want to start travelling again.
I would much prefer to get my £400 back on my flights but I accept that a credit voucher should be an acceptable compromise in most cases.

Just for information - the number given earlier to use for Ryanair (0330 100 7838) doesn't appear to be of use any more. You sit through several pre recorded messages telling you to go online to request your refund instead of a voucher. If you hang on to speak to a CS rep you get cut off immediately.

I'm back in the queue for live chat and I've also got a message box open on facebook ,I tried for nearly 5 hours yesterday and am not doing that again, instead I have raised formal complaints through every mechanism I can find but almost certainly will have to let them win this one and just wait until the main bulk of complaints are worked through and then try again for a refund.

    I have just got through on 0330 100 7838 option 6 after a 45 minute wait.
I have asked for the refund I applied for,  instead of the issued voucher and have been told they can process my request but there will be a ‘long wait’ for refunds to be issued.

Of course I have. If you’re struggling to put food on the table I would suggest approaching a food bank, a charity or maybe your local council. Relying on Ryanair to do the right thing will only increase your stress and anger but not feed your family. You are absolutely right, we have paid for a service and are entitled to a refund. Did you book Ryanair expecting fairness and transparency?

No, just our legal rights, or even the cash refund that many of us were promised a month ago.

All the anger in the world won’t make your money appear as if by magic. Stop wasting your time with the chat service; that will only increase your blood pressure further. Phone up (see Viane’s post further up this page), apply again for the refund, make all the complaints you can then go get on with your life. Unrealistic expectations only cause pain
  • Total waste of time trying to contact Ryanair. They will just keep sitting on your money. Just call CC company, bank or paypal and get them to refund you and they can take it up with Ryanair. CC companies must accept under Section 75 as RYANAIR have failed to deliver their service. Also complain to Competitions and Markets Authority here:

I applied for cash refund not vouchers which was agreed in first instance with paperwork to prove this. I was prepared to wait few weeks for refund. However in my inbox yesterday they have sent a voucher which I don’t want. I eventually got through to chat to a real person via chat line who sId they would note I need a refund but that it wouldn’t be paid until after COVID is over. Staff working from home can’t access the refund system. I very much doubt this is the case, just Ryanair’s usual tricks. I should have flown to Majorca on March 29th until April 5th, flights were cancelled March 23rd. We have had no problem getting car hire money returned.
I have raised a complaint with business complaints service.

I've tried phoning and I either get cut off or just get recorded messages referring me to the 'simple' web form where you can't actually raise anyone to chat to. Incidentally the numbers used to contact Ryanair are at a cost , it may only be a few pence a minute but I will not phone again to listen to patronising messages telling me how easy it is to apply for a refund online. If Ryanair were honest or stuck to their original promise of a refund I would be happy to wait patiently, they have lied to me once- who is to say they won't lie again about the vouchers? I have made official complaints and I won't  sit here all day waiting for non existent help online.I will let it go and try to get a refund later but I will continue to make formal complaints to any official body that regulate these companies.
