The point is that you don't need any qualifications to work on someone's car. If a customer goes to a garage they have no guarantee that the person working on their car has taken any test to prove that they are competent at working on a car. If you go on an aeroplane you know that the pilot has a licence. They are issued by the Civial Aviation Authority establishing that the holder has met a specific set of knowledge and experience requirements. Which organisation licences mechanics?

That's apples and pears.  You are comparing mechanics and airline pilots.
Go to a main dealer and try to get a job without a qualification or years and years of proven experience.  You'll be told you can clean the cars but no more.  The fact that qualifications isn't mandated by law doesn't mean that all dealer mechanics are incompetent.
As far as airplane mechanics are concerned, watch Air Crash Investigation.  It's on Nat Geo most evenings.  Many crashes happen because of errors by mechanics.

"When I go on an aeroplane there are two things that re-assure me about my safety."
    1. That it hasn't been serviced/repaired/maintained by an unqualified DIYer!
    2. Him/her upfront know what they are doing.
You'll be glad to know you have to be qualified to service or drive aeroplanes. Unfortunately no such qualification is required to work on a car. The aviation industry is highly regulated. The motor vehicle service and repair industry is totally unregulated.
Sure try getting yourself a job in your local Audi franchised dealer with all your "experience".  See how that pans out.

And you clearly have great people skills and team player attributes so you'll fly through the interview.

There is no spamming.  There is a metadiscussion started as normal by Fred who believes that everyone should tinker with their still in warranty car.

You obviously believe this is sensible since you think his 'advice' should not be countered.

I do feel sorry for the people who have a genuine problem with their car or want some good advice and they post on here expecting a reply from fellow consumers. They then get a load of abuse from the 'motor industry insiders' who post on here within a few minutes. It's like going into a garage with the world's worst customer service.

I don't work in the motor industry in any shape or form.  I wouldn't touch anything in a car as I would do far more damage than good, yet you suggest that someone like me, instead of taking my car to a garage - and my car is still within its warranty - should just do a DIY it myself, putting my warranty at risk.  Anyone who disagrees with you, is a motor industry insider.

It's not good consumer advice that you recommend that people should basically tear up their warranties and do their own servicing.  Yet that's what you constantly tell people to do.  If someone's engine goes pop and because they haven't had it serviced at a VAT registered garage, and they are left on their own by the franchised garage and the manufacturer, because they self serviced, how moneysaving do you think your advice is?
