:A 1. The County Air Ambulance
2. http://www.wmas.nhs.uk/heli.htm
3. Provides helicopter support to the ambulance service.
4. This is a very important but expensive part of the ambulance service that needs donations to operate as the NHS can not provide enough resources themselves. There are local air ambulances services all round the country and this is just my local one. The air ambulance is a really good organisation and provides a valuable resource to the local community.0 -
1 Musicians Benevolent Fund
2. https://www.mbf.org.uk
3. Support where accident/old age bring financial burdens
4. how many musicians do you know who have made appropriate plans for their financial future. I recently became aware of a high profile professional musician whose career and lifestyle was brought to an abrupt end as the result of a serious heart attack. Like most musicians he had thought he would go on playing and earning forever and, like Tommy Cooper, die on stage. He had no Pension fund, no property, no savings and no family support. The Musicians Benevolent Fund have provided , in confidence, emotional and financial support and guidance to give him back some dignity, self respect and relieve him of some enormous stress. The MBF do a wonderful job helping musicians who have given so much pleasure to so many people. Every one of us should identify with this one.0 -
1. The Anson Engine Museum (Reg Charity No 518587)
2. www.enginemuseum.org
3. Preserves our industrial heritage of stationary engines
4.
Very small charity that, without a penny of government grants or funding, rescues and restores internal combustion engines from crumbling into rust. It tells a history of engine development and manufacturing, something Britain excelled in for many years but is now just a bygone memory. Run by volunteers on a shoestring budget, the museum has picked up awards from Tourist Boards and IMechE* but is desperately short of funds. With over 180 engines it’s the largest collection in UK (probably Europe) open to public. Understandably, it does not attract the public attention that children or cancer charities do, but the volunteers’ dedication and love of our engineering history, certainly deserves recognition and support. Experienced at making modest amounts of money stretch a long way, enhancing the experience for visitors (approx 4000/year). Already uses tips and links from this site to eke out its funds - many thanks.

I vote for this charity - https://www.hearing-dogs.co.uk which trains dogs to support people with severe hearing impairment - alerting them to sounds - telephone, doorbell, smoke alarm, which they cannot hear for themselves. A dog offers other benefits too; offering not only unconditional affection but the opportunity to connect with other people who greet their dog when they are out; a deaf person can't hear you say "good morning". Many dogs are selected from rescue homes, adding yet another dimension to the charity's work.0

1. Shwachman-Diamond Support
2.https://www.shwachman-diamondsupport.org
3.Information, support, promote and fund research, raise awareness.
4. Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome (SDS) is a complex, inherited condition that affects various organs but most particulaly the bone marrow, pancreas and skeleton. There are many other features of the condition including dental, heart, skin and muscle problems. Children with SDS are generally small, have delayed growth, problems digesting their food and are often vulnerable to life threatening infections secondary to low blood counts. Many have developmental, educational and feeding problems. Diagnosis can take a long time.
For a child it means not being nourished by the food you eat and taking up to 30 pills a day to aid digestion. Countless visits to hospital and examinations. Additionally they may have an enlarged liver, skeletal deformities, dental dysplasia, heart abnormnalities, skin lesions and poor muscle control.
For a parent it means, commonly, experiencing lengthy and stressful delays before receiving an accurate diagnosis. Being a parent is one of the greatest challenges in life. Being the parent of a child with SDS creates and even greater challenge.0 -

3. 'Practical Action' works with poor communities to develop appropriate technologies
4. They work with poor people to develop the skills and technology that will enable them to build a better future. The technology must be sustainable within the community, able to be built and/or repaired locally and projects run by & with local folk. Even wee amounts can make a huge difference. They used to be called ITDG – the Intermediate Technology Development Group and have instigated some great projects over the years.0 -

:rotfl: I've been involved in Junk Swaps in Chelmsford, Essex in the last two years where people bring unwanted items and then can take anything they find of use to them.
They are highly successful and it has been great to also collect bikes which Re-cycle have been able to ship abroad.
I am always impressed by their sheer enthusiasm and massive effort.
Its amazing to see a shipment of hundreds of bikes going to new homes and helping to give others new opportunities.
I wish Re-cycle well.

Just wondered how strange it is how some many people have posted in this thread and haven't posted before. Not that the charities they mentioned aren't important as they are, some good charities have been mentioned.
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -

Free National Information and Advice Helpline for Bereaved people.
Bereavement is something that affects us all at some point in our lives. When we lose someone we love we can experience some of the most extreme and disturbing feelings that cause us pain and confusion. This can happen even if that death is expected. When someone dies we have no choice but to deal with situations that we probably never imagined that we would experience, and may have given no thought to, nor made any preparation for, nor could possibly anticipate. Depending on the circumstances of death, we can find ourselves in a situation where a post-mortem is to be performed on our loved one to establish the cause of death. This can happen, either because relatives have consented to it or because law requires it. In either circumstance it is a very difficult time for the family. Between 1970 and 1999 about 3 million post-mortems were carried out - a rate of about 100,000 per year. The National Bereavement Partnership is a registered charity offering a unique service providing information, advice and support to people who have experienced bereavement, and professionals working with bereaved people, particularly where a post-mortem is requested or required. The Partnership provides training and works alongside and with Health Professionals, Coroners and their Officers, as well as voluntary organisations and charities, to ensure that all systems are in place to give friends and relatives the support and information they require at a time of bereavement.0
